Meyer Werft Libra (Dawn) class, 92,345 tons.

No what's worse is nothing is wrong but something had to make that noise.

Most resonances are truly infrasonic although with high enough energies they become perceivable. I'm aware of those and conditions are not close to cause them. Even so this stood out like a cockroach in mashed potatoes, wrong chord in a riff! This happened and was over. No "aftershock" or anything. Just as if you're "doing it" and someone turns on the lights, then turns them off again. You jump, hit your funny bone. Now imagine that shock amplified a million times.

Yeah, I was just throwing junk out there. I mean, if you can't figure out what it was, then I couldn't even begin to have a clue.

I gotta agree, its probably Cthulu. Maybe he had gas?

It's fraking Cthulu. Say goodbye to your loved ones.

Maybe this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ko8CHrvPuJI is a witch doctor and has a few of these

Shaft bearing?

We have pods so no main shaft. I've been on a Fincantieri vessel with shaft problems and felt some pretty bad vibration but that's immediately obvious.

I'm just going to  since everything is "all clear" and we're ok.

Looks like shafts to me...

True, not the same type of shafts as in "traditional propeller shaft" arrangements...but shafts just the same.

Maybe just some kind of harmonics. Doesn't necessarily mean something is "wrong," maybe just "in tune."

Yes and there are sensors galore on that system and everything is nominal. Same reading ranges as the prior day. If there's trouble on the horizon they know it long before it becomes audible. The pods are oil filled and the oil is constantly monitored. If the bearings start to go traces of metal show up in the oil. If water leaks in, the same. Long before real damage is done, they know.

In 2010 we had an engine explode that shook the entire ship. This felt stronger and different. That's about as bad (I hope) as it would get. Still no answer.

Well...since those little boats cost at least tree-fiddy...you'd expect them to have all the bells and whistles...

It would have be one big ass whale! If you're in a car and run over a mouse you would not feel it. ;)

Confused sea and or gale driven waves over swells can cause a lot of ruckus but nothing like this. Water is quite calm.

It also transmits sound waves far better than air, though I'm not saying it was a whale.

Also, is it any of these? Note the link is to NOAA, these are they're 6 unidentified underwater sounds.

Oh and yes. Just recently. I can't believe it slipped my mind.

I was sitting outside in my back yard playing words with friends one night(because I didn't have an airplane to play in) and I heard a strange rustling sound all around me in the gardens. I turned on my phone's flash to investigate, but every time I thought I isolated the area the sound was coming from and turned the light on it, I saw nothing. I expected to see bugs, or salamanders, or some small creatures making the sound, but no matter which way I turned or how still and patiently I sat, I could see nothing, no movement. I began to poke around the layer of dead leaves with a stick, but still nothing. I must have been at this for 15 minutes but left unsatisfied. The next night I was doing the same thing, and heard the strange rustling again. It seemed to be coming from everywhere and even louder than the night before, but again, everywhere I turned, silence and no motion. Determined I went inside to get a lamp and waited by one spot I was positive the sound was coming from. I stared for 5 minutes, hearing the sound all around me, but waiting with the light on one spot. At last I saw it. It was earthworms poking up from the ground. jostling the leaves and plants. It was quite a bit louder than one would think, and quite creepy on an otherwise silent night.

hah once my class was taking a hike on a cloudy/overcast day (it was about to rain) during a camping/field trip in college. there was a moderately loud noise that sounded sort of croak-like. the person in front of me was like what was that? a frog or bird or something? and i said it was me because i burped >.<. The person made fun of me for a while after that :p.

it can be anything, for example, quick cold-to-hot or hot-to-warm transitions in equipment/structures can causes noises or popping sounds

I've had that happen to me before, when I was a kid. I was outside and the throbbing seemed to emanate from the air around me. it spooked me out, and I never did figure out what it was.

Yeah, I have been camping near Taos, NM, and heard the famous Taos hum. Also the farm I lived at in the Pojoaque Valley would get shockwaves from detonator tests at Los Alamos, always fun to explain to visitors.

Air passing under the hull? Rough seas?

Rascal scooter climbing the ramp to the upper disco deck?

Fuel tanks rupturing and flooding the bilge tanks? Ready to spit fire?

Ice burg?

Happens sometimes in my house. Once in a while I will hear a beep sound. It sounds nothing like any of the electronics I own, not my phone, or smoke detectors, or anything like that. It happens maybe like twice a year, if that, so it's too infrequent for me to try to track down.

Recently there was a freaky one. It sounded similar to the roar of a lion, but more undead like. Sounded like it was outside but very close to my office window. I always laugh at horror movies when a person hear something like this and go outside with a flashlight, but I actually did that. I never found what it was. I'm thinking an animal, maybe even a bird, but I'll never know. The sound was really odd it could be anything. Would be early for a bear, but never know.

One day last summer i heard what sounded like flame blast of a hot air balloon. About the 2nd or 3rd time i heard it, it dawned on me that it was entirely too windy to be a balloon. It was loud too, like it should be very close.

I went outside to look around but couldn't see anything but could still hear it, like 3-4 minutes apart. I started to walk down the road to get a better view, away from the trees, but the noise stopped & i never did see anything. There weren't any support vehicles on the road either, like there normally would be for ballooning.

That's definitely weird, especially when you have lots of other people around to verify you just aren't crazy.

Some years back I was doing some work out in the yard - cleaning up, watering the lawn, etc. I had to run into the house and down into the basement to look for something, so I'm digging a bit thru where I thought it was on the side I use for storage. Then I notice this faint moaning type sound. At first I just kinda ignored it, but then I heard it again, and then again. It wasn't exactly the same each time, and it seemed like it was actually moving closer or further with each one.

Half of my basement is finished, including ceiling tiles, and the intermittent sound seemed to be coming from that side. I figured maybe my cat was down there and was sick or something. I walk over there, and still would hear it every 5-10 seconds, and it's duration would vary slightly along with the pitch.

I could hear it much better on that side, and that's when I actually started getting creeped out a little. I noticed it seemed to be coming from above the ceiling, but hearing it better it sure didn't sound like a cat - just a really creepy variable pitched moaning/groaning. I investigate (it's divided up into a few rooms on that side) and it seemed to be getting louder, more frequent, and what really got me is that it seemed to move all over the place above the ceiling with almost supernatural speed. I poked my head up above the tiles in a few places and saw nothing, but you can't really see too far.

I thought I was losing my mind. So I go upstairs thinking it was something upstairs. Nope. I hear it coming from below the floor. While I'm walking around the upstairs though, out of the corner of my eye I seen it! I couldn't believe it! It dawned on me when I caught the sprinkler I had going outside out of the corner of my eye... I hit a magical sweet spot on the outside faucet and it was the water pipes on the floor joists groaning at me. Yup, I'm a dumb-ass lol, I was starting to get seriously freaked out after chasing the sound for a good 10 minutes.
