It's exclusive to very populated areas. That's lunch. That's coffee. That's not going out to a restaurant alone, getting a booth/table, and ordering. That's going out for your lunch break.

You don't sound like someone who is frugal with their money. You sound like those kids who spend thousands on a home theater system while in college. I don't really understand how most people really "afford" college even if they do work while in it (I just put it under the debt free category or only debt for tuition and maybe books category). It's really not even possible unless you work full time or have a good living situation. (Cheap rent) If you have $600 month for rent and $200 month for food(I assume you eat nice) then that's more than minimum wage at 20 hours in most states.

Im not gonna lie, my parents had a relatively hefty education account for me but I paid out of pocket for everything else. I worked on campus (tax free) at 12.50 an hour for 20 hours a week. I scheduled my shifts such that I could just chill in the library and do my homework at the same time, worked out very well.

I actually was ridiculously frugal in college, I just worked for whatever I wanted and shopped smartly. I ate really well, because I bought stuff on sale and learned to make dishes myself, I had nice things because I bought everything from slickdeals. Though I just had a laptop and desktop and used netflicks, no cable TV, or any TV for that matter. I afforded my books by borrowing them from friends or just reading them in the library, I rarely needed them anyway. If you're smart with your cash and have a decent job its very easy to earn a decent amount of spending cash and have everything work at the same time. If you're single its almost a no brainer.

You'll find out that most people around here (South OC) were a lot more extravagant than I was, but I still managed to live comfortably the entire time by just using my brain.

$12.50 an hour? WTF? :colbert:Did you go to a fucking private college? Holy shit. Most places here give minimum wage and nothing higher EVER. (And they're cutting the jobs too) Freaking lucky. It's hard to get a job here unless you have connections.

That doesn't sound anything like what you posted earlier. Slickdeals sucks now. They hardly ever have good deals. :( It has gained too much popularity I guess... Decent jobs are not easy to find with that much freetime in them.

I went to UC Irvine, huge public university. Worked for campus police, easiest job on campus and it paid the best, plus I got to drive around a P71 crown vic when I was on duty. Most campus jobs here pay at least 8.50, with the good ones paying around 10 an hour. Hell In N Out pays 10.50 an hour with benefits, lol.

I ate out when I was single like once a week, maybe 4-5 days a week when it was midterms/finals. When I was with my ex it was more like 2 times a week with us making dinner together most nights a week. I usually went out clubbing/pub crawling a couple times a month with my fraternity, but that was usually the extent of that. I was doing two majors so I didn't have much party time.

Not talking about McDonalds for lunch, sit down restaurants for dinner. Ever go by yourself? Going to go to a greek restaurant I've been meaning to try for a while. Usually go out with the parents which needs to stop, lol, (they are out of town for a few days) but going by myself feels a little odd too.

My mother actually gave me $30 for meals while they are gone. WTF!? I'm 28, not 14  Tried declining it but she insisted so I'm going to have a nice meal. :awe:
I wouldn't go by myself, but get some takeout from there.

Yep, when traveling for work alone. Why wouldn't I go out for dinner? Company is going to pay for it, better than sitting in my hotel room alone.

Exactly this.

When I'm traveling for a job I always eat out by myself, see movies by myself, go sight seeing by myself.

I figure if they're paying and I'm stuck in some other state on my own in the evenings, I might as well make the best of it.

Otherwise I'd just be bored off my ass sitting in my hotel room.

Yeh, but do you eat out at a formal restaurant or is it a restaurant where you can sit at the bar?

When traveling I tend to get takeout and make it last two nights. I find hotels with fridges in the rooms.

And how is that? Scholarships or parents? I have a hard time believing you could even have half the brain to get a scholarship that would provide a full ride.

Uh...? What. Man, you must really have insecurities about your penis size. (I guess that would make sense since you do take pills that increase blood flow in the body)

You're cooler than me and you don't have to explain why. Hah, that's a laugh sir. THAT'S A LAUGH. I'm lollin' right now. It's hilarious. The only reason you say you don't have to explain it is because you can't. I don't validate myself to these people, if anything... I make myself seem even worse than I am. :p

HAH. BUT ATOT HAS SAID LOOKS DON'T MATTER WHEN IT COMES TO FEMALES, SO SUCK IT!

See, I don't waste my money. I do it on things that actually give return on investment. That's why I go social dancing or do things with others socially, because that has return on investment.

Waste of money and time bro. I guess you just sit at those tables, waiting for your order... thinking about how lonely you are because you had to go out eating alone... (Business trips are different obviously. You don't have a place to cook a meal, etc.)

Well let me respond to this without getting into petty insults.

In response to your first statement, I actually went to one of the top 3 university prep schools in Canada, I have a brain, I just don't feel the overwhelming urge to brag about it like you do. You're right, I didn't get a scholarship, despite the fact that I had a 90% average coming out of high school. I am blessed though to have financially successful parents.

Despite this fact, I chose to work through school, even though I really don't need a penny.

It seems that your events that have a return on investment have, unfortunately, not helped improve your personality.

Sometimes going out and just having a nice meal (alone, because I spend most of the day dealing with customers and clients, and until 2 months ago had a live in girlfriend for 2 and a half years) is quite refreshing.

To be candid, looks get in you in the door, and in your case wearing a paper bag might be of greater assistance.

Cheers.

LOL, you manage a 3.7/4.0 GPA from a top 3 school in your country and you don't get a scholarship? That's EPIC FAIL. Waste your parents money why doncha. And the lulz keep getting better, you chose to work through school even though you don't need a penny. Right... Why didn't you just do charity work? You are an asshole if you are so rich you don't need a fucking penny from a job because you get whatever you want already and yet you still get one. You're such a liar or a total dick. (I'd bet both)

Scholarships are actually hard to come by in a competitive environment at a public uni, mainly because they would be giving them to everyone. At most UCs, scholarships are reserved for disadvantaged students/URMs(fucking ridiculous). I know many many of my friends who had 3.7+ in Biology specializations that were on loans or self paying with no meaningful scholarships. (If you really looked hard you might be able to find one that pays 1500 once every 4 years).

Most of the people on this board arent spoiled at all, try going to college in one of the richest areas of the US and see what its like. I used to see more supercars on my bike ride to school than most people anywhere else in the US see in a year. There was an asian guy who had a Continental GT that he drove to class every day, I didn't know him personally though.

I am not sure what the competitive environment is you're in. We had multiple people from my school who aren't that bright get a full ride to the University of Oregon for various majors. :/

A lot of people who I know got scholarships really easily. Regardless, 3.7/4.0GPA from a top 3 school in his entire country and can't get a scholarship? That's still fail. That would get you a scholarship just about anywhere...

Location location location. UCs are ridiculous in that regard, everyone wants to come here and will pay for it. I don't know of a single person that had a scholarship honestly unless they were a Regents or Governors scholar (Valedictorian of your HS class). My roommate graduated HS with a 4.0 (private HS so no scholarship eligibility) and from UCI with a 4.0 in Microbiology in 3 years with nothing.

I generally wont eat at a sit-down restaurant by myself. I did recently because a thunderstorm knocked out my electricity for about 25 hours, and it was nice to sit somewhere with air conditioning and cold drinks with free refills. But at the same time I didnt "camp" there for an excessive period of time or anything.

I was offered scholarships at some schools but chose not to go to those ones. Also I was awarded a merit based scholarship from the state based upon my academic performance on our standardized exams. Also, I could not be awarded any scholarships based on financial need which limited the ones that I can apply for.

I hate charity, I think it's a waste of time.

Anyways, I'm not lying, just to give you a small insight into my life. I'll be out on this this weekend:

Nice angle isn't it? It was taken from a helicopter.. hired by the magazine it was on the front cover of last November.

Not quite as easy up here nancy boy. Anyways, I don't need to justify myself to you, I sincerely hope you fulfill your own perceived inadequacies, if not I feel sorry for your parents.

What's the difference between charity and a job? Oh, one actually helps peoples lives... Because for you, the money doesn't matter. You could burn it and it wouldn't matter. This is why you're a dick, admittedly a small one, but whatev.

Sigh, ATOT fails to deliver. This guy just proves he's a complete asshole with no justifications.

Oh, and all that shit is provided by your parents... Last I recall, that's called privilege. Don't act like you worked for it.

No, so I can buy a house instead of stop renting.

Certainly worked for everything I as much as you have, so.. who let you get on that high horse of yours? What justifies your holier than thou right to judge everyone else?

Have your parents buy it for you. It's a drop in the bucket, right?

My parents have stashed some away for my first house, but unlike most other cities living where I do is quite pricey.

Sorry, I meant to say, I've worked for everything equally as hard as you have.

That being said, nice, you avoided the question. Intriguing, does that high horse of yours deflect any words that question your obviously unquestionably integrity and character?

Some parents enjoy helping their kids out with large purchases, its a part of a lot of cultures. Hell my old roommates mom (Chinese family) just bought him a 40k Audi for getting into dental school because "you cant drive a Honda now, you're a dentist"

God forbid people, hell families for that matter, do things for one another.

If it's his parents prerogative to buy him something, who is anyone to judge what they buy them? They've earned the money and it's their choice to do with it what they will. Granted, I feel that this is not the best thing to do in every situation but damn, you just like to shit on everyone's parade don't you?
