I get the fact that doing things by oneself can be boring and seem like a waste, but what about the saying "life is what you make it"? I mean, I HATE doing things by myself but the only way to make friends/meet new people/hit on the HPOA at the end of the bar is to go out and venture forth into the world. It's not like someone else is gonna do it for you.

Hell, I got a part time job on top of my regular gig, at a movie theater just so I could have an even better reason to go. It's a blast giving guys a hard time going to see movies like Charlie St. Cloud and Twilight with there GFs.

But then again, when you are anti-social as hell to begin with and have a shitty attitude to boot, why bother EVER leaving the house?

Please don't confuse socialphobia which I have with being anti-social they are VERY different things. And I have a pretty awesome attitude in person actually. :awe:

lol yeah I figured as much locutos, I actually enjoy reading your posts. I wasn't actually referring to any one person here, but I can see how it can be to assume that! ;)

I usually go to the Pho place next to my house once a week for lunch by myself. I can either dick around on my blackberry or watch viet TV, lol.

Did both the movie and dinner by myself when working in SLC for a few days. It was strange. I do remember the movie was U-571:D

restaurants are for socializing with other people. eating at a restaurant alone would make you look weird. oh and its a wast of money too.

I've been an introvert for years. I don't know why I used to pride myself on being anti-social, as that only held me back from building upon the people skills I need to get by like other normal people of society.
I've been working on improving, have attempted to be more outgoing and seeking social interaction when opportunities arise.

Don't have a problem with either :) I don't need a conversation partner to enjoy a good meal in a nice restaurant. It's nice to have one, but nothing that detracts from the gastronomic experience.

Yes, I have. On business trips, or site visits I tend to eat alone because honestly I can not stand the people who work in my company.

When my wife is out of town, I love eating out alone. I usually take a book with me and I'll send up spending an hour or two easily.

Almost daily. I can appreciate a good meal. I don't frequent places like Applebees, but the nicer local places.

I'm comfortable with who I am and don't need the positive feedback of conversation or being around others to not feel awkward. Just fire up my phone and browse forums. Will get a Kindle withing the next couple of weeks and can catch up on some reading.

I don't sit at the bars as I don't drink and then drive. Bar stools and such aren't as comfortable as a booth.

I have when traveling for work. Getting a table is kind of strange...its kind of awkward sitting there alone waiting for food. Last few times I did it, the waitress tried to chat it up a bit. One even sat down and talked for a bit. I think she knew I was there on business and had no one to go to dinner with. If they have a bar, I'll usually get food there. It gives you something to do while waiting for your food. Or you can just get takeout and veg out in front of the tv in your hotel room.

Certainly. When I'm hungry sometimes I just want to chow down. I don't need to talk while I do it.

I use to like to ride my motorcycle to different places and go and eat in restaurants by myself. It was kinda cool seeing different towns and the local diners. Would do it again but I don't think I'd get in the car and drive 5 minutes to the local chain restaurant and look like a weirdo eating by myself.

yeah when i was riding all the time i would do that also.

though on the rare occasions I'm alone anymore (wife and kids) i will go to a restaurant. Then i go to something my wife does not care for.

Sometime I come across a restaurant that I really want to try out. So I ask my friends to go try it out with me. But they are always so afraid of trying out new things. So sometimes I end up going alone just to try it out. If it's really good, I convince my friends to go with me the next time. And when I say convince, I mean actually pay for their food. Buncha pussies.

Nope. If I were travelling, I would. At home, I'd just go straight for the take-out counter.

Last year I was perfectly comfortable going to movies alone, but those were mainly matinee shows. Now that I have a job and am forced to go on Fridays or weekends, I just don't care for the crowd. Early afternoon weekday shows I'll still go to when I have a day off.

I don't enjoy eating out by myself.

Some people do. That's your barrier to understanding.

I enjoy going to movies by myself. For me, the film is the focus, not the social context. Besides, I get deeply annoyed by most other theater-goers, including those I know, especially people who talk or play with their phones. I would be overjoyed to be the only person in attendance.

Similarly, one might like eating out at a nice restaurant simply to appreciate the experience.

Neither one is a waste unless you consider any personally enjoyable activity a waste.

Definitely this, though I must say certain films can be fun to see with a big audience. Also, I have found certain theatres have good audiences, mainly the small, boutique theatres that show older or art house films.

Yeah, I totally agree. I have a local independent theater nearby that has hosts a film series of cheesy old action movies and they wouldn't be nearly as fun without an audience laughing at them. In the same way, sometimes it's definitely more fun to go eat with friends. My point was just that going alone is not as weird or worthless as proposed.

business trips...like everyone else here said. Sushi places, too. When my wife is out of town, I usually go out for sushi by myself. Now with smartphones, you have something to replace the warm body of a dining companion.

As others have pointed out, that's the attitude of a poor college student, which is perfectly acceptable. However, once you're in the real world for a while and you're making decent money, there's nothing wrong with getting some good food from a restaurant. Unless you eat nothing but Ramen noodles you're a being a hypocrite.
Ummm...He eats nothing but Fruit Loops.
