And probably even more significant - fear of the terrorists. The repug fud campaign really did work.

Don't have an explanation for current situation except that some are lazy and just do what they've always done - vote party lines, etc.

Deudalus, are you Canadian?

I have a friend that's just like you, he seems to know everything from reading books and if you argue against his opinion, you can never be right because "he's read a book about a place". Despite the fact that you may be born there, have close ties, relatives, visit the place regularly and know far more facts than he ever does about anything, etc...

You're one of those person. Argument against your ilk is a waste of neurons and I sincerely urge those attempting to do so, desist.

Edit: for starter, for someone who's so insisting on uninformed opinion based on literature (or what information is "fed" to the masses under a regime), you seem to be so hard up on your "facts" that you "studied in college" and possibly "read some books" about the subject. Open your mind fool.

Isn't that the whole point of Anandtech P&N?

I mean seriously when was the last time anyone around here gave up a point?

Seriously though, I'm open to discussion on just about anything as long as the discussion isn't how others view me, my country, or my retarded president.

That's about the most pointless discussion that anyone could have.

Just about every political topic you can name I'm on the fence about. I'm not 100% in either camp on any issue out there and I personally think that anyone who is 100% in one camp or another is either being paid to be there or just a total sheep (or both).

That's kind of what I was thinking, I have a feeling our patriotic OP is putting down our country and our President when he is overseas, perhaps he is French.

WTF has any of that got to do with present times? Never mind genius, just keep calling an entire continent morons

So let me get this straight. You have no problem with the premise of this thread, which is all of Europe thinking all Americans are morons. However, when the sentiment is turned around, you whine like a three year old girl.

That's cute.

I'd say 51% of the people is this thread are idiots....

Makes you wonder why people put down this country and sing the praises of Europe are still here...

So your answer is no. You are trying to tell someone who very recently visited a country what the people there are like because at some point in the nebulous past you studied 'communist regimes'. Do you know how stupid that sounds?

Not only that, but you're totally jumping to conclusions again. I never said that you should vote based on what people in Thailand or anywhere else thought. The entire OP was just someone's observation that Europeans hate Bush, and so I mentioned that Southeast Asians hate him too. Nobody asked you to vote one way or the other based on what they said, I certainly didn't. I couldn't care less how you vote.

No, but the whole point of the thread was because a liberal wanted to point out how other people think and why we should care.

I personally do not base any of my opinions on how others think, do you?

The tie to people living under communist rule is very simple because they are not allowed to think. They think how their party thinks, they vote how their party votes. Why do you think that in Vietnam they basically have a one party system in which all but a dozen or so of the 500 elected representatives are members of the state run communist party.

You really think we should care what they think about our government?

Your attempt to discount their positions is based on the incredibly ignorant assumption that because of a repressive regime that people in the country are incapable of having an informed opinion. This is simply not true in Vietnam, particularly in the cities where access to outside information is widely available. If anything you are simply showing that having free access to information also does not guarantee an informed opinion.

You are simply ignorant. I don't buy your professions of independence, and your arguments in this thread have been off topic, incoherent, and flat out wrong. You are embarrassing yourself.

Now you are getting it, you don't believe what I am telling you and you don't care what I think.

I'm happy you are starting to catch on. Now if only that streak of non-conformism would transfer to the Vietnamese, Cambodians, and such maybe you could really be a free thinker.

The ironic thing is that so many liberals are so worried about what others think of us and what we do. The only people that I have met (and it totally sucked btw) that are so caught up in what others think is hardcore southern christians.

They are obsessed with what other people think of them. That's why they dress their best to go to church, drive their fanciest car, hell my 85 year old grandma with a metal knee spends 3 hours getting ready to go to church.

Ironic that you guys are so different yet have sooooo much in common.

Your opinion is based upon ignorance. That's all that really needs to be said.

Hey thanks!

The truth always cuts a little deeper than most people are comfortable with but that's OK.

I can handle being called names, the question is can you guys handle thinking for yourself and forming your own opinions based on how you feel not how others will feel about you.

A popularity crazed joiner is no way to go through life.

That has to be the stupidest post you've ever written.

europe history of f*cking the world long and hard is well...long and hard.

anyways, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25011532/ "when we left earth" series is pretty interesting watch.

and of course obama is going to cut nasa funding. yipee, the fail continues.

If you are 'European-American': Your ancestors came from Europe too, and you therefor are as much to blame for WW1 and WW2 as most current Europeans (as in: not at all). You are however to blame for Bush' current wars for oil.
If you are 'African-American': Your ancestors from Africa were captured and sold into slavery by fellow Africans.
If you are 'Native-American': Your ancestors were, in between killing warring with other tribes or getting massacred by the Spaniards and early 'Euro-Americans', more respectable than a lot of the ones running casinos now.
If you are 'Latin-American': Your ancestors slaughered the natives, and plundered the country.

Anyone I forgot?

i'm not white. second of all we WERE a colony.
making this a race based issue is just stupid. you might as well whip out the 6 degrees of kevin bacon and blame 9/11 on britney spears if you want to play that game.
this is about countries and their histories.

'Europe' is not a country. Blaming all of Europe for WW 1 and 2 is like blaming India for Vietnam. After all, India is in Asia too. Blaming current Europeans for it is even more stupid.

I didn't drag race into it to talk negative about any race in particular. I dragged it in to show that no matter what your background, you can always find something negative about the ancestral group you belong to, and that blaming the current people for whatever their ancestors were doing is nonsense.

'White' Americans are the descendents of white Europeans. Black ones from black Africans. Etc. The moment you start referring to a group as being bad due to their history you also have to look at the history of whatever group you belong to. Just like you cannot judge countries for what other countries in that region do you cannot judge them for what previous ones did in their country.

And regarding colonialism, Genghis Khan wasn't exactly a tourist. Nor were the African tribes warring it out for power and land (as I mentioned, a lot of the slaves shipped to America were actually sold to European traders by other Africans), nor did the Aztek gain so much power and land in Central America by just giving flowers and singing songs. Every continent had conquerers, the difference with the Europeans was that thanks to their inventions they were able to travel further over water.

You mean like the US occupying Iraq?

Uh, no. The colonies established by the various European nations were done to further their economic gains. Our presence in Iraq was strictly to rid of Hussein and his cohorts and stabilize the mess as the result of that.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WAHAHAHAHAHAHOOOOOOOO!!!! HAHAHAHAHAAAA!

Dislinking the douchebag Bush does not equal putting down this country and is in now way singing praises to Europe. With that said, they're right....he's a prick and far more than they hate the bastard.

Hah. Now America is paying the price of the their imperialism adventures. I'm sure that Dubya has a more in common than not with various monarchs who murdered indigenous populations to exploit resources in the name of the greater glory.

Maybe that's the point - Europeans have demonstrated the folly and inhumanity of this approach, and are dumbfounded as to how the dumb asshole republican americans can repeat these same historical blunders. Just buying what's packaged and sold to them obviously.

There are plenty of poorer countries in the world then Vietnam. In addition it's economy is growing faster then almost anywhere else on the planet. It's averaging considerably more then 7% growth a year. Sure it's still got plenty of problems, but again that's not the point of what I was saying. I spent several months there recently and I would be interested to know what you think they deal with on a daily basis and why that would disqualify their opinions on GWB or somehow distort them to make it a bad example.

This doesn't change the fact that people living under a communist government with far less rights than we have, really have no business telling us what is wrong with our government.

Sure a whole hell of a lot of people don't like GWB, I would be one of them. But our way of living and government is still the best in the world as far as I (and really the rest of the world) is concerned.

When was the last time you help Tiger Woods with his golf swing? Maybe you gave Kobe some pointers or his hoops game?

The Vietnamese giving us pointers on who to elect isn't much different than that.

Thailand is much better, but they are still a Monarchy.

Cambodia as you yourself so eloquently said, is a shit hole.

By your asinine logic I should assert that anybody who voted for Bush has no business being allowed to vote ever again, since they're obviously duped and misled by empty propaganda and have little to no understand of domestic and foreign politics. You who vote for the worst president in the history of the US don't deserve to have a voice anymore. How do you feel about that?

The propaganda you buy into is far more dangerous and lethal than anything put out by that little communist government - how many tens of thousands of people have they killed lately? Sure it's a matter of scale and perhaps not a fair comparison. So let's look at China - who do you think is responsible for the deaths of more innocent people since 2003 - the US or China?

Europeans still embrace that approach. They have conveniently wiped out the truth of their colonialism from their historical education, constantly repeating the same historical blunders. How many European nations charged into Iraq with the US? Rwandan genocide? Srebrenica? Chad? Sudan? It keeps repeating.

I don't like Bush either, but I still don't give a damn what the Europeans think about us. When their shit stops stinking, I'll care about their opinion.
