Anti-rightwing != anti-american.
Just pointing out that 35 hour workweeks, high taxes, universal healthcare and social programs, don't seem to have been hampered Airbus' ability to compete. I love how our politicians complain about EU government subsidies of airbus, but don't mention one of the biggest government subsidies for European manufacturers, which is that they don't have to price employee healthcare into every plane they build. Because that is not something they want brought up to the attention of American people.
You just don't get it, do you? FYI, I congratulated the Europeans on their project early on in this thread. And rooting for your home/adopted country every once in a while is not "braindead patriotism." You are either a self-hating American or some foreigner who takes advantage of all that we have to offer and complains about everything. Which one is it?

It's the truth. Boeing did get pwned. That's what everyone says about is go great about business in America. Your ability to compete. So simply boeing will just have to come out with a larger plane. Then you will find me saying that Airbus got pwned.

Boeing got OWNED, plain and simple. They are at minimum 6-10 years from putting out a new plane with comparable capacity. So I guess we'll be seeing more of the same; Airbus sold more planes than Boeing for the last two years, and the story will be the same for the next ten.
The 747 is ancient. Boeing's planned "update" for the 747 will increase capacity to a measly 450 passengers, but that won't dramatically increase fuel economy or interior space.
I guess FedEx and UPS are anti-American too, because they both placed large orders for the A380.

When was it declared that the biggest plane is the best? I didn't get that memo, apparently. Boeing made a conscious decision to opt for smaller, more efficient planes and Airbus went the opposite route. Which was a better decision? That will be determined over the next 20 years.
Boeing has a larger market in mind, and thats the mid range flights. Boeing isnt owned, because they will be making more off the 7E7 than Airbus will make off the A380(unless you count EU subs). Simple truth is, the airlines in the US will be replacing their planes with 7E7's. Southwest and the other value airlines are said to be chomping at the bit for the 7E7.
Airbus will be late to the game when it comes to a comparable model to the 7E7, at which point, most of the older Boeing planes flying in America will be replaced by the 7E7.
Airbus has their A350 (a long-range derivative of the A330) as a counterpoint to the 7E7. It isn't as risky a concept; it only makes partial use of composites (like the A380 does), but it does share the same engines that the 7E7 uses.
The 7E7 is set to enter service in 2008 if Boeing can get all the [composite] pieces to fall together. The A350 would enter the market in 2010.
Boeing has no counterpoint to the A380, which will see service in the large growth, large population Asian airline industry.
But between now and then, Airbus is continually OWNING Boeing. So many of you quote figures for American-based airlines, even though growth in the international airline industry will be huge. Here's an idea of what's going down (note the number of orders from Asian airlines, where Boeing is losing out big):

That was underscored again yesterday when another low-cost carrier, Indian Air Deccan, announced an order for 30 Airbus A320s. Kingfisher Airlines, a rival Indian low-cost airline that is not yet in operation, signed a contract with Airbus this week for 10 A320s with options for 20 more.
Boeing's 737 once dominated with low-cost airlines. But Airbus has recently been eating Boeing's lunch in this growing market segment.
Airbus has won every major low-cost order this year, including one for 70 planes last month from Air Berlin and its start-up partner Niki Luftfahrt. Air Berlin currently operates only 737s.
Last week, Malaysia's AirAsia, the largest and fastest-growing low-cost airline in the region, said it would order 40 Airbus A320s to replace its all-Boeing 737 fleet.
John Leahy, chief commercial officer at Airbus who personally leads many of the Airbus sales campaigns, said Airbus has won more than 200 orders this year from low-cost airlines. Total Airbus jetliner sales this year could reach about 325, he said.
Boeing has not beaten Airbus in new orders since 2000.
