Basically I was going through the same guide as what you use after I read the few provided in Madpacket links, as I did Step 2-4 myself before reading any of the guides yesterday so it might be a mess to use the splitter address at that time. I did click send everything after sending a symbolic 1 ETH myself to the 2nd ETH account though.

I have to create a 3rd ETH and ETC account as the 2nd account transaction exist on both chains while playing with symbolic transactions.

nice.

i havent moved my prefork coins yet till i understand exactly how it works. seems pretty straightforward but im in no hurry. still have mining pool payouts going to original addresses i set up prefork.
 
I've got dual 480s going in my gaming/mining rig now. That left me with the old R9 290 doing nothing. Decided to run to Microcenter and grabbed the AMD 7400k + mobo for $85. Had everything else in spare parts to piece together a new mining rig 🙂

True. They might build enough to kill ETC though. And if they never get there, that means .25% payouts non-stop. w00t. Think I'm gonna try mining there to see how it goes.

I tried it myself using Poloniex as a pass-through and I got "interesting" results. Check this action out:

First thing I did was go to my alternate login under Win10 and "installed" a fresh copy of Mist/Ethereum Wallet (latest version). I fired it up and said "No" to the question of whether or not I wanted to support the hard fork. It came up and showed me my old balance from before the hard fork. That's my ETC.

So I sent all the currency from that client to my Poloniex ETC wallet address. Lo and behold, Poloniex deposited that amount in both my ETC and ETH wallets. Hmm!

I went back to my main login, started up Ethereum Wallet (post fork, latest version) and found that I only had the ETH remaining that I had mined post-fork. So I sent that to my ETH wallet address on Poloniex. It got added just fine, with no bump to my ETC. I then sold my ETC on the exchange and bought ETH (and a bit of XPB for teh lulz). Then I withdrew all my ETH from Poloniex and sent it to a brand new Ethereum Account created using Ethereum Wallet (post-fork) and whammo, mission complete.

Some of you might not want to use Poloniex, but using it is pretty easy, and it appears as though they are still splitting ETC and ETH for you, even if you go the "proper" route and send currency from the correct chain. You will only pay fees for selling the ETC to buy ETH - if that is what you want to do. You will not pay fees for the transfers into and out of your Poloniex ETH wallet address. Only downside I see if that getting your transfer limits up high enough to accommodate all of your ETH may be a hassle. It might take a few days to move all your ETH out of Poloniex.
 
That feeling when your rig crashes and is out of commission for the day, yet is still powered on :$

Need to get me one of these Belkin Insight switches for remote power off/on. The z97 rig has been very unstable over the weekend, particularly after I turned off the air conditioning. some tuning needed...

I hear ya. I put together a rig yesterday, reusing my R9 290 that worked fine for months mining in a different system. I cant get it to mine for more than 15min without it crashing the system for some reason. I've tried all sorts of different power settings in MSI AB, driver versions etc. Still crashing out to a black screen.😕
 
I had some ETH before the fork, currently trying to cash out the equivalent ETC using the MyEtherWallet to Poloniex method. I've done a test sending a small amount of ETC to the Poloniex deposit address, it's been deducted from my wallet balance and....it's apparently gone. Nothing arrived at Poloniex and the provided transaction ID doesn't seem to be valid (get a 'unknown hash' error on gastracker). This was a couple of hours ago now, are things really this slow with ETC or have I screwed this up somewhere? I've followed the article exactly and everything worked only the ETC hasn't turned up at Poloniex even though it's out of the wallet balance.

Yeah gotta hate that. 10+ hours of downtime = teh suk

Even if you can remote power down/power up equipment, how can you assure the system will boot? I'm sure there's a way to do it, but none of my machines are set up that way.

Seems fishy. Did you get a deduction of both ETC and ETH from your pre-fork wallet? Or just ETC?

Yes and yes. IIRC, if you show profit for more than 2 of the last 5yrs you have to file the income as business income on a 1099-MISC. I guess the IRS doesn't consider it hobby income if you're making profits on a regular basis.

Because I'm subtracting out the equipment cost, I believe you'd have to show the future equipment resale value as hobby income as well (in the year of sale).

Set the option in your motherboard BIOS to "automatically power your PC back on after power failure". Use mobile app to remotely cut power & turn the switch back on, and the PC should boot. I've done this exact procedure many times... It just so happened my one and only Belkin Wemo switch wasn't hooked up to the rig that crashed..

I have my eye on the newer Belkin Insight because 1) it's smaller; and more importantly 2) can monitor energy usage, tho I wonder how accurate this would be compared to a kill-a-watt.

Worst case scenario, if it doesn't boot: keep the power cut and let the rig take a breather - better than 10+ hours of eating up electricity doing diddly jack! (black screen of death)

Unless you're speculating or highly-dependent on selling as you mine to pay for power bills, the transient value of ETH at this time is largely irrelevant. Augur and PoS offer bumps late this year/early next year which is when things get interesting.

Difficulty is down too so we should be getting miner productivity.

ETC is a speculator's coin. People are riding the pump n' dump train for as long as they can. Miners jumped on it since the difficulty was low, and speculators jumped on it since they realized it was essentially Ethereum, just at < $2 per ETC. So a lot of people were like hey, free money right? Apparently a bunch of Chinese speculators moved money into ETC as well for whatever crazy reason.

I've been trying this 51pool.org thing and they do pay out, but one of my rigs stopped sending shares (not 100% sure why) so payout rate was all mucked up on account of that. If I can keep all my rigs up for 24h on this pool I'll find out if they're as good as their .25% fee makes them out to be.

The funny thing is that interest in that pool seems to have dried up. I am now over 80% of the hash power in that pool, heh heh. Runnin wit da big dawgz!!!

Honestly I don't think any of my boards have that feature. Maybe the A88x-Pro does buried in the UEFI.

Heh, I just got back from being out of the country camping for more than a week. I didn't even notice until several days in that I didn't have any hashrate any more, and nothing I could do would turn anything back on. Turns out there was a power outtake the day after I left, and unluckily it must have tripped the 120V breaker on the power bar the hub was plugged into. Even though I can remotely cycle the power through the PDUs, it doesn't work if you can't talk to anything. 😛

Sounds like I missed a pretty profitable week of mining with all the excitement.

I did. Last night I went as far as wiping my HD and reinstalling Windows and drivers. PC still never makes it more than 10 minutes into mining before it freezes. Even with the GPU at stock settings. It runs fine when in Windows, browsing the net, etc. I'm starting to think maybe it's the power supply, even though it's a pretty decent unit (Corsair TX650).

It seems ETC price is entirely dependent on network hashrate. Its difficulty is rising at the expense of ETH. Its difficulty curve is predicting further price gain today as the expected payout per day is lower than ETH.

It seems the difficulty growth is throwing the /day estimation off. Not sure how accurate this is or if it's current.

Good stuff. The nice thing about mining on APU platforms is you get an extra Mh or two from the GPU on the APU, every Mh helps.

We have the inventor of Ethereum working on 3 second block times for Casper!

3 seconds!

Once the core developers fork the main chain over to Casper, ETC will fall further behind. ETC has no foundation or real direction and they're without a team of some of the smartest people in the field working on it.

The only twisted way I see ETC surviving is if a large chunk of the Bitcoin speculators / traders abandons BTC for it. Even though many die hard Bitcoin people have been calling Ethereum a scam since inception, they now have an excuse to move into ETC (immutability or some other fake reason...) knowing the whole time Ethereum is superior to BTC in so many ways.

I believe this may be happening and why ETC hasn't died yet.

Anyway I hope people keep mining ETC and keeps the difficulty of ETH low. I want as much Ether as possible before the fork to Casper 🙂

Yeah I noticed that when it is running, before it crashes, the APU gets about 1.7 Mh/s, not much but ill take it. Now, if only I could figure out why it constantly freezes after about 10 minutes of mining. Missing out on an extra ~30 Mh/s D:

Yeah more miners on ETC stimulates more interest in the coin. It's seen as tacit disapproval of the hard fork by . . . enthusiasts, shall we call them. It's suckered some big money into ETC. I'll grant you, if you took a bet on it when it was $.60 then you made some money. But eventually it's gonna dump out.

Well the broad claim is that anything ETH can do, ETC can do. It remains to be seen if ETC bothers to hard fork to Casper. BTW what's the ETA on the transition to Casper anyway?

If your miner is freezing then it's a good indicator that one of your GPUs is not stable. Best bet is to run them individually to see which one crashes first.
