Ethereum GPU mining?

WTF is up with the difficulty. I checked my pool this morning and I had earned more eth than I normally do in a 24 hr period. Loss of mining power that moved to eth classic?
 
Ethermine didn't get a bump at all last night and I don't see that big of a drop in hashrate on the other chains explorer tools... Did Dwarfpool flip over to ETC for a bit or something?

Don't think so. they did the hardfork voting like everyone else and it was overwhelmingly in favor of hard fork.

Once difficulty increases they'll flip back to the main (proper) fork and difficulty will continue to climb. This is a glitch in the Matrix. We should be thanking them for lowering our difficulty and earning us more ether 😀

I was thinking the same thing, except it might also be a setup for Chandler Guo's 51% attack on ETC. As it stands, difficulty is on its way back up, though it still hasn't fully recovered. It doesn't look like many of the miners on major pools jumped on the ETC blockchain so it's hard to say what is the origin of this hashpower.

In any case mining ETC right now seems like a really bad idea. It's back down again (was up to .0033 BTC about 12 hours ago, now it's .00235 BTC) and Ethereum has recovered most of the value it lost overnight.

edit: I will say this . . . nanopool's total hashrate doesn't seem diminished at all for Ethereum, but now they have 87 GH/s of new miners on ETC. That definitely came out of left field.

You know atm ETH and ETC share the same wallet design, addresses, etc if you make mistake and send ETH to ETC address its gone -> NULL

Maybe you sow ETC volume surprised ETH in last 48h, can you still hold you bag of premined Vitalik fart and sleep well?

The DAO was external project, ETH should never fork for some greedy investors and devs that have hand in a honey jar, now they have what they deserved

I can't really make heads or tails of what you're trying to say other than you've provided zero constructive criticism and have had nothing but negative things to say about ethereum for months now. I've added you to my ignore list. Maybe you'll have better luck convincing someone else.

Have you really tracked crypto scene for more then a Vitalik IPO premine which he use to bribe exchanged and make hype?

If you had you would know ETH is dead after hard fork and both chain are alive! anyone in bitcoin world 5 years ago would tell you same!
 
The only thing that would have killed ETH would have been denying the hard fork. It already tanked to $9/ETH after the DAO hack, and it would go lower had nothing been done to return that money to investors.

All this ETC/immutability crap is getting tiresome, especially watching these so-called "true patriots of Ethereum/cryptocurrency" bitch about Vitalik. If you don't like him, get off the coin and do something else, damn. He was there before the DAO hack and he isn't going anywhere.
 
New 16.7.3 drivers released. Quite a few Reddit users are saying this update limits the RX 480 Memory limit in WattMan to 2050. Keep that in mind if you were planning on updating, that will surely result in a drop in Mh/s

Its weird that WHQL 16.7.2 shows as 16.7.3 in GPUZ and this still allows 2250 memory limit on rx480. not sure who the bug is with
 
I added 4 XFX "Black Edition"s to the rig in sig. Quick confirmation needed: my RM1000 (the older model, not i or x) can handle the load of the rig + 4x 480 and 1x 290x (5 cards total)? CPU was OC'd to 4.7 but I'll keep it at 4.0 for now or maybe even under clock it. I should probably unplug any hard drives I don't use regularly - I've got 2 SSDs + 2 traditional HDs at the moment; already unplugged the DVD drive which gets 0 usage.

Run out of PCIe power cables and need to get a couple more I think - At the mo 2x PCIe power cables are providing power to the 4x 480s. I also had to hook up one of the risers with a SATA power cord + SATA-to-Molex power plug.

PS. one of the cards has an absurdly low ASIC of 67.9% (top left) 😱

Nice. I have two of those XFX Black Edition cards coming next week sometime (probably Friday). Overpriced but the backplate could come in handy jammed in side by side for a miner. You should be good with your RM1000 provided you keep the the voltages in check. Yes please remove any unnecessary HDD's and underclock your CPU, RAM, and disable any third party controllers in the BIOS (Firewire, extra USB 3.0, Sound, SATA controllers). This will save you additional watts.

Don't worry about ASIC ratings so much. Keep your eye on default voltages for each card and tweak accordingly. Sometimes cards with lower ASIC rating will have better memory making up any speed or power advantage a higher ASIC rated card will have. I've also noticed (in general) higher ASIC rated cards, like the ones in the 80's consume more power by default than lower ASIC rated cards. Maybe for gaming the higher ASIC rated cards have an advantage, but for mining they don't appear to.

Also note you're a little unbalanced with your 290 GPU/Memory speed ratio. You need to watch the GPU memory usage while mining (for some reason you have this monitoring disabled?). Anyways, at 1030Mhz core you shouldn't need to set your memory any higher than 1125Mhz. This will lower your wattage a little more. The goal is to get your memory usage to roughly 95% but watch your hashing output to ensure you're not negatively impacting performance. Hynix memory works a little different than Elpedia etc.

Thanks for the heads up. We really need third party tools like Afterburner. Wattman is a pain in the rear

FYI: Avoid latest drivers (16.7.3) for 480. It decreased overclocking range on memory to 2050MHz down from 2250Mhz.

Could it be that they are trying to prevent damaging the memory chips when overclocked way past 2000MHz? They're already running quite high as they are.

But they give voltage control in their new utility for the first time. there is a big warranty void warning you have to accept when using wattman for the first time so I don't think that would be it.
