At my wife's school they have a short assignment to do at the start of class called bellwork. Recently wife (Math Teacher) had them write 5 sentences. (Once a week every teacher must include some writing bell-work to try and improve their spelling/grammar.) Here are some of the responses:

-We didnt have know bellwork monday
-We didnt do work witch isn good
-I don know what she was tryna do
-I hate garbein noms (garden gnomes)
-(Two years ago) I was sad because my gammy pasted away. I went to the funarl and my cuzin was thier
-I hate maskitoes (Mosquitoes)
-I like Ohio Better Because Ceder Point their and i leik going thier

These are direct quotes from sophomores in High School and for just this one assignment

At first I was like, "Oh no big deal, these are probably 1st graders or something."

Then I got to the bottom and read that they're sophomores in high school... I think I would give up if I was a teacher that had to deal with that.

High School? Geez....

I still don't understand the point of the assignment. Just five random sentences? You'd think they should be asked to write 5 sentences with a specific structure so they can learn something.

Ah lol well mosquitoes is excusable, since it's spelled stupidly...

The rest is lol though. But really, how can you expect someone to know how to spell when nearly every single word processing program has a spell check.

Impeccable grammar along with knowing English words that most would have to look up to figure out what they meant. :(

I don't know how she does it sometimes. The parents/school system have failed these kids so drastically it's obscene

These kids wouldn't know what structure you were talking about. My wife used to teach Spanish and she would have to go through a refresher English course so they would know what a verb or noun was when she taught them Spanish verbs and nouns

Sadly, ESL folks I know have impeccable grammar - they just don't speak well.

Definitely not ESL kids. This is just what happens when your parents don't care about reinforcing education

If the students knew it was a grammar assignment and they weren't graded on it, they might have consciously chosen to write deliberately bad grammar just to fuck with the teacher. It's something I would have done.

I was thinking the same thing. Lots of kids write like that in elementary school. Writing is hard as fuck. Bin is actually been. 3 versions of there. Umpires vs vampires.
I remember doin assinements like this in elamentry. It sucked, but we lernd.

Grammar is the easiest part of English. It has very specific rules that are rarely broken. Spelling and speaking are impossible because it's totally random. I've heard lots of immigrants complain that there's absolutely no way to know what a word sounds like just by looking at it. Immigrants often pronounce things the way a 5 year old would; every word is said as if it were phonetic.

how is babby formed o_O

this brings back memories of one of my ESL classes. the teacher would read these horribly written sentences from students and I couldn't help but laugh. I must have looked like such an asshole.

Ugh. Just bomb that school and start over. Those fools are beyond help. Everyone knows this.
They'll do great in the military as long as their commander tells them exactly what to do and doesn't ask them to write anything down.

Their field reports would rock my dick off.

While in the desert we heard shots so we turn and saw the arabs but they were not the arabs we were looking for then we went to town to get fuel but there was no fuel so we asked the radio guy what to do and radio guy said he would get back to us then we were hungry and took a lunch brake for a couple of hours before the sun went down at raughly ate twetnty hundred hours arab time and we found spiders in our bed the next morning and it was the worst night sleep ever

lol, you've got the run-on sentences down, but not enough spelling errors.

The foreign exchange students at my high school wrote and spoke better English than most of the people at my school.

*cries for America*
