Yes, the CEO certainly gained his company an amount of publicity they probably couldn't afford to buy. Turned a lack of free 290Xs into some decent internet eyeball time.

You endorse this type of cheap publicity stunt, I think it's ill advised. Would you like to see more CEO's bad mouth companies publicly in hopes of increasing sales? Going by your post, I guess we have the answer.

Uh, there is still nothing tying nvidia to this entire ordeal. The CEO could actually be telling the truth, which is plausible considering the state of affairs with eyefinity-CF. Or maybe there is substance to this story. If that is the case, nobody will EVER fess up to it - and please, semiaccurate is hardly the "smoking gun" that some would claim.

The only thing I see a problem with is playing the pity card for AMD. Look, I like *and* recommend AMD's GPUs alot, but come on. AMD should fight for business since they have a smaller market share than NV in terms of dGPU sales - i'm sorry but the business world is ruthless. Always has been and always will be, period. We don't know if NV had anything to do with this but if so, there's no proof. Maybe AMD needs to realize you fight to win in capitalism, you don't play the "nice" guy. I've said it before, but I found it particularly hilarious when AMD's marketing discussed the AMD gaming evolved initiative. Their words were that they want a competitive market place and they don't want game engines to benefit their hardware at the expense of another. Do you think NV would ever do that? Hell no. NV just does what it takes to win. AMD should do the same. I am hopeful they will do just that with their Mantle initiative and the 290X - maybe they'll realize that being the continual "nice" guys doesn't win you any sales.

There is absolutely no reason to dump AMD after 15 years when there has been news of newer faster flagship gpu's with a new crossfire implementation, updated crossfire drivers that have been announced, and mantle all known to be coming in less than 2 months.

His supposed issues just do not line up with the timing of all the recent AMD news. This is the main reason everyone is calling bs on his statement, not that we think AMD can do no wrong. Whether he was paid off, or just simply is having a hissy fit because he didn't get the 290x to play with yet will probably never be known.

You completely missed the point. It's not directly about CF problems or whatever, if he feels he can't use Radeon hardware in his systems fine. It's how he went about it that is highly questionable. As I said, some are enthusiastically endorsing his tactics, I don't agree I think it's poor business management.

I never said there is some smoking gun tying Nvidia to this, but it doesn't take much of a leap of logic to imagine something shady went down.

The issue is the CEO has changed the story. He originally said driver and GPU performance issues. But now says its because AMD would not send him cards before everybody else got them. So the fact that he is changing his story, along with the timing of it is whats suspect. They also signed a deal with nVidia the day before they dropped AMD for a new gaming system.

Sure there have been some CF issues that effect some people. But the 290/290X have hardware frame pacing and a new CF implementation that should address all those issues. So why drop them before getting the chance to see those cards?

Yeah AMD have been doing a lot these days.This Origin PC boss man could have waited for the 290X release and tried the new Crossfire improvements....

But who knows what goes on under the table.....
