He IS the great communicator and he can be a source of reason and calm.
I think you misunderstand what I am saying.

At THIS point today the best thing we can do is give support to the protesters. If we are lucky they will take care of the regime for us. For Obama to get confrontational will only help the mullahs.

Later on down the road if the revolution fails then we can talk about getting tough.

Mousavi is giving a speech now.

Mousavi is at head of Jayhoon ave. giving a speech.
Where are you getting all this news from?

People are liveblogging twitter feeds from inside Iran. There is a currently a blackout of all media. They are using proxies to circumvent the state crackdown on communication.

Apparently Mousavi said something along the lines of "I am ready for martyrdom if it means there will be a free Iran."

If you want to follow along the raw twitter feed is #iranelection. Much of the information is redundant though. The liveblogs i posted earlier are slower but more accurate and less hassle.

I agree, this is a situation where Obama can step up and be a leader...... now lets see what happens.

Looks like today really is the day of reckoning. If they cannot completely stomp out the protesters, the gvt of Iran will fall....just a matter of time. If they succeed, then it may be another two decades before the people get bold enough again.

If the Iranian protesters turn violent, they will lose the support of the people and the same is true for the Mullahs if they use unwarranted violence to repress the protests.

The Mullahs, militia, police and the bussed in thugs have been violent from the very start

Seems they are spraying the protesters with acid by helicopter from what I've read in the blogs and various comments. Now not your skin melting strong, but enough to feel like its burning it seems.

Cable news has been sorely lacking, esp. amongst the 24hr networks. You are better off sticking to the internets...

Sounds like what modern police forces refer to as non-lethal techniques, along with rubber bullets, tasers, bean bag shotguns, etc.

They are having trouble verifying dates of the videos and pictures being released, because of the media blackout in Iran.

The new surge in videos is because cellphones started working again in parts of the city.
