Funny how people can pass judgement on a game they never played. All the old standards (common sense) are thrown out the window "cant judge a book by its cover" etc.. While I wont deny the rush to capitalize on the MMORPG goldmine (that is now dying, this game is a bit late to the race) does lean towards "ho-hum", and the fact that the sheep are still playing the same games OVER and OVER (cod, BF, etcs) and paying for it does not bode well. I will reserve judgement for myslef. I still play Arena and Daggerfall (both have been modded so much that they are somewhat fun still ) And Skyrim was such a awesome Open sandbox with so much to find (the explorer in me was overwhelmed), I cant resist any Elder Scroll game. Combat will be Key, and how badly PvP is done. The holy grail of Unlimited PvP hasn't been mentioned (thank god!!!!, there is no way Unlimited would ever work, has never worked, and never will). Screenshots show and attractive world (lets hope it plays ok).

yes also in the alpha/beta- have been for awhile NDA.. wont say its good or bad.. but suggest making the decision based on the game, not that other games in its genre have sucked.

the nda doesnt say you cant admit you got an email inviting you to particiapte the beta...because i signed it after i got the email..

Hey I just don't want to get kicked out. I don't get into that many betas, probably because they figure I'm too old to remember the bugs I run into.

I noticed they just posted a reminder about the NDA to Facebook. I think they can hear us.

Bah.

Perhaps I will not be joining this weekend beta afterall. Tried to log into my account on their web site to download the client and it doesnt recognize my usual password. I tried the forgot password feature and it says no account for my info. Whisky Tango Foxtrot? I obviously have an account if I received an invite to this email address....

Anyway I contacted their support but do not believe to have this resolved by the weekend. Not a good first impression of their system.

^^
you have to make a beta account. i had to do the same thing

Okay... so what was the account that I created in order to sign up? And the invite I got doesnt have any info about how to activate the beta on my newly created account, which currently says I have no games. The email does nto contain any keys but it does say "welcome back" implying I was somehow involved before.

If you haven't previously joined a stress test or beta session then you should have received a key with the email. If you go to the account page you can click the button on the right to submit the key and create a beta account. It's a one-time thing.

oh, then idk, it sounds like your email was different from mine. mine had a link to create an account and then a key to activate it. sorry :(

OK I actually found an email from a few months ago where I was previously invited and it has a key in it, and allowed me to activate the beta for my account. Odd I missed that email before! It was for a stress test.

once I heard who was doing the developing for it, I was like "Meh", not interested in another one of their clones.

OP, I know exactly what you mean.

For a long time I have imagined a multiplayer Elder Scrolls. And by that I mean an actual ES game and not just a generic fantasy MMO with the ES name slapped on it.

It could work - think of something like dark souls. You could summon other players to your world to help you with quests. They could get their own loot/exp along the way. You could even add invasion mechanics for PvP.

Or it could be like Terraria where one player acts as a server and everyone else can jump in/out of that players world at will.

There are some technically challenges sure, but I don't think it is impossible.

For those of you wondering whether you are allowed to say whether you were invited to the beta or not, here is an official reply from a Zenimax employee on the ESO subreddit:

TL;DR: It is against the NDA to say you are in the beta, but they are understanding and won't ban you from the beta for saying it (as long as that is where it stops).

We understand that this topic is one that causes some confusion, so we're happy to pop in and clear it up. Our NDA does state that you should not talk about the beta, at all, including whether or not you're in it. Realistically, though, we don't feel it's fair to ban someone from the beta for getting excited and simply saying something like "Yay! I got an invite!" That's not really harmful or sharing anything about the beta test.

If that's all a person says, it's no big deal to us. The problem is, it rarely stops there. Unless you've got an iron will, it's very difficult not to share your excitement and talk about something you enjoy with your friends, especially when they know about it. Eager friends start asking questions, and the trouble starts there.

"What's the harm in telling them just a little?"

"It won't hurt to show off this one screenshot of my character, right?"

That's how leaks often happen.

TL;DR: We frown upon it, yes. We won't ban for simply stating you're in the beta. If we find out that you've said or shared anything more than that about the ESO beta while the NDA is in place, yes you will be removed from the beta.

We hope that makes sense. Please let us know if you have any questions!

that would be fine, but then the MMO "purists" would rage that his is not an MMO, it's all instanced! Co-op is not MMO blah blah blah blah...

that's similar to GW1, and I like that model.

I would rather it not be an MMO, and just be MO ;)

So what class/race will you play? Hypothetically.

I'm leaning towards playing a khajiit of dubious character with a skooma addiction. . . Moon sugarrr :D

I wonder if alchemy will be as OP as in the other games.

Same, not big on the idea. At first I was excited for KOTOR to go online, look how SWTOR turned out.

Best keep a successful single-player franchise the way they are.

For those who may or may not be in the beta, you may or may not need about 50GB of space.

I'm in also. Downloaded the client Wednesday. Can't wait to try it out.

Let me know if anyone's setting up an Anandtech group...
