Must say I was very against ESO before launch. Then I got a beta key of a friend by more or less accident. Bought the game in more or less lack of anything else to play of the time after the beta grew a little on me. Now I play it all the time and it gets better and better

Reached level 24 today.

I would say a very smooth launch as well. More or less only 2 minor side quest issues. One solved, one still there.

What skills are you using Sub?

I am a lvl 11 Templar and have no issues with the quests I've been doing (course I have also had practice via Beta).

I pretty much use no stamina during fights, rarely Dodge (other than actually just moving) and anytime I would block I tend to bash which often stuns the mob - which allows for a heavy attack and knocking down the opponent.

The key to Templar is his burst damage, pretty much nothing should be standing by the time you drain your magic. Boss type mobs are trickier as you need to balance your resources a little more (though most the boss type mobs in solo quests tend not to be too heavy on damage)

My set up is 5 Heavy Armour, 2 Light (mainly to lvl up the skill line). Sword and shield.
SKills are:

Puncture (morph of first 1h&shield ability) - this reduces the mobs armour and magic resist which makes evrything you do hit harder.

Biting Jabs (Morph of first skill in Aedric Spear line) - This is the killer skill and my go to attack in all fights whether it be multiple mobs or single target. The damage is crazy good, even better if they are under 50% (if under 50% this is pretty much the kill shot on trash)

Reflective Light (Morph of first skill in Dawns Wrath) - Nice ranged attack, I often open with it, though do use it less and less these days as I prefer to use my magicka on biting jabs. I think I may respec later and make it the single target attack instead which does more damage.

Binding Javelin (morph of second Aedric Spear skill) - knockback with a decent duration, very good for taking a mob out the fight while you deal with the other, or more importantly great for disabling a tough mob (as usually in small groups of trash I prefer to keep them all close to kill with Jabs)

Breath of Life - my emergency heal, though rarely used which is just as well as I don't have much magic to spare, but has saved me a few times.

My Ultimate is from the Aedric spear line as it is dirt cheap and regularly usable for extra damage without resource cost.

The build does fine against up to 3 or so mobs, I open with Reflective Light to hit them all, run in close, Puncture the bigger threat (usually caster) then hit Biting Jabs, followed by another and usually everything is dead. If not I throw a few normal attacks or somemore Punctures if I have the Stamina.

On a boss type mob I keep Puncture on them, cast Javelin and maybe a Reflective Light as I walk towards them (skip the Javelin if mob is immune), I then follow up with a few light attacks and another Puncture, block if a big hit is coming, try to get him closer to 50% before spamming a few Biting Jabs on him - I usually try to keep magic high enough to have a heal spare.

Actually, that may have been part of it, the major reason for the unexpected and long downtime was the level 50+ players already.

Yes, people have already made it to max level in less than 24 hours. Seems that these players scammed the devs and the system as well.

First off, there is a quest in pvp land to kill X number of players to get a huge amount of experience. At first during early beta, the quest after completion would require a long ass run back to return the quest and then another to get it. Some people looking to capitalize upon the devs good nature to appease the player base in early beta made the suggestion to put that quest giver/receiver closer to the front line so that the "action" wouldn't swing back and forth so much in pvp as players rush in and out to turn the quest back. Te devs thought, hey that's a great suggestion! Anything to keep the players on the pvp battle field right?

Yah, that backfired. A few players set up accounts to bot the whole thing. Have bots on one side just stand there and line up to slaughter. Have the main "leveler" whack away to kill enough fast enough to turn the quest in immediately, get it again, and turn it in again. Since the experience of the quest scaled with level... yah it didn't take long to reach max level for anyone doing this.

Always some nerds who have to exploit the system to gain lvl 50 within 24 hours. I never understood the need behind it.

I must be taking my time and learning the game. My highest character is only lvl 9 after two nights of playing.

Well, those are the guys who spam us to sell gold. I can't imagine people who play doing this otherwise, what's the point? I didnt pay 60$ to cheat my way to 50. I got a toon to level 9 then started another one to see what I may have missed, I would be surprised if I reached 50 within 6 months.

Personally my highest is only 12. I don't exactly have the same amount of time to spend playing the game every day as I have to spend quite a bit time with family stuff.

It doesn't take long to reach level 9 at all. It only takes something like 4-5 hours or so of play if you know how to blow through the newbie island quests real fast. Getting to 10+ things slow down drastically. Much of the reason being due to the spread out nature of the quests as you reach higher levels it seems. That is in conjunction with needing far more experience per level to reach the next level.

But yah, the gold spammers/level for money spammers are the ones who always cheat besides a few bad apple guilds. In some games it does make quite a bit of difference in many ways. First to cheat, and cheat often get to do in some games the "elite" content that many will never experience.

I would be shocked if at least some of the people doing it were doing so for the "bragging" rights rather than to sell gold. Don't underestimate the appeal of epeen waving to some people.

To be fair there are also plenty who made it to 50 legitimately to. Just by finding the high mob density areas and with their Rings of Mara just AoE farming mobs as a group.

Certainly not my style, I hate max lvl in games so in no rush for it!

I went down a little different route but the common thing is the Biting Jabs which hits for a ton. I open with Solar Flare then Biting Jabs. At this point you can then finish off a mob with a few swings of your weapon. For anything harder I just use a heavy attack with my resto staff(press and hold left mouse button) which gives me 10% magicka back then I use Biting Jabs again. The combo of heavy attack from resto staff, a heal and Biting Jabs lets me outlasts boss fights.

I'm 5 light 1 med 1 heavy. I go light for the magicka reduction and regen since I want to be mostly a healer. I had Breath of Life , Mutagen and Healing Springs on my hotbar when I healed Grotto last night. Had a few deaths here and there but was able to get through it at 12 last night. But I grouped with my former RIFT buds and we are on vent. Not sure how that would have been with a pickup group.

Here is what my hotbar looks like http://esocalc.com/#1-1d5110000000:152:119:163:281:12:157:1229:12-52:134:71:505:503:0:0:0:0:0:0:0 . This is only an approximation and the damage/heal shown over the popup isn't accurate, I don't know offhand the full skill pts I have allocated. I'll fix it when I get back from work tonight.

I'm level 17 now as a 2 handed Templar, can we quest in different areas? I've done everything in Glenumbra and started Stormhaven but i'm starting level 19-20 quests now at lvl 17. Any tips on leveling up to content?

Go run around in areas that are your level; I've found a lot of quests at my level that I didn't realize were there.

Hit 23 on my DK, and this game is different than most others - I can easily farm lvl 30 mobs, except the rare Troll that I can't outdamage the regen. Only thing that sucks about it, is my bags are full of too high level gear.

Servers are down again but for a "good" reason, the login screen says it's for maintenance in preparation for the main launch on April 4.

Can someone tell me why the gaming hipsters are crusading against this game?

It seems its a game you either love or hate (Before trying it). And a lot more love than hate after trying.

The hate is very focused on price+monthly subs. Not the actual game itself.

Alot of the reviewers have also turned around now.

I didn't realize there was any crusade against it.

If I had to guess...

Some people probably wanted a single player tes game, and instead, they got this (I'm sure bethesda is working on a single player right now at any rate)

the combat is a bit different than a normal mmo -there have been some mmo's that have experimented with different styles of combat, but they have been few and far between.

I'll be honest with you, my first opinion of the game, in early beta, was negative. Did NOT seem like a game I'd like at all (and I like the single player tes games, and other mmo's).

But, the more I played it, the more I liked it. I'm currently thoroughly enjoying the game quite a bit. But, it is very hard to overcome first impressions alot of times.

well a nice little add
http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/66587/eso-maintenance-4-3#latest
We want all of you to know that everyone who was part of Early Access will be granted an extended grace period until Sunday at 8AM EDT/12PM (noon) GMT before being required to transition your account to live. This will cover those who purchased ESO from an online retailer and won't be getting your box shipped in time and also gives anyone in Early Access who purchased digitally more Early Access time.

So you get a day and half extra, which kinda makes up for the two long maintenance as well although its not the reason for it. I know some people where complaining about it (official forums, reddit)

Do not put in your ESO launch key until Sunday if you were on early start. It will override early access key and start the free month billing. If you wait til Sunday early start will net you 5 free weeks.

There are issues with some of the patches coming down tonight -- some folks are reporting they're having to reinstall the game as a result. This happened to me as well.

Launcher is trying to re-install the game on me as well. I just went to the install folder and launched the game directly. Unfortunately this is surely a temporary fix only, as the first patch will throw me out of synch with the servers. Hopefully they fix the launcher by then though.
