This Thursday evening can't come quick enough. The review embargos lift tomorrow around lunch ET.
It's the first game I've preordered in years. I think my last one was God of War 2018, and that was after its review embargo lifted.

I was never a huge Souls fan or anything like that, but I saw the trailer on my YouTube homepage. Since I've seen the game talked about so much, I decided to check it out. I went from having pretty much no interest in the game to preordering it. Now, don't get me wrong... I will probably regret the punishing aspect of it, but I really liked the open world aspect of the game. Of course, I'm not expecting it to be like an Ubisoft open world game, but probably a bit more like Breath of the Wild... with a lot less colorful nature. :p

Some good initial reviews. Both are pretty in depth and thorough even if they didn't complete the game. Sounds like it's going to take a considerable amount of time to finish the game and much longer to 100% it.

I'll pick it up this week for PS5 but it will go very similar to how my demon souls playthrough went...follow a YouTube walkthrough as I play and get to a certain point before I start playing another game.

I'm horrible at these games but getting better makes it fun once you figure out the mechanics and the character choices for your class.

I'm not expecting much except, like demon souls but open world. I prefer playing these type of games on console anyway.

If we go without the 50/100 score from a click bait site I will be surprised. So far it's avoided that.

Never played a game like this but this is tempting. Now to get it for my PC or Xbox. Seems like a game that using a mouse and keyboard would be better if you need to go through inventory and set points on a map no?

100% use a controller for these games. The gameplay feels so much better.

I tried to play the souls games on the PC with kb/mouse and it was frustrating. There was very little need for the precision, even with bow and the menus are pretty easy to navigate with a controller.

Downloaded on my Xbox after reading the comment about a controller being better then did some googling and seeing that these games are designed for controllers.

Y'all know you can use your Xbox controllers on a PC through either a bluetooth connection (many laptops now come with bluetooth built in) or using the little wireless dongle that can be purchased independently, yeah?

Or you can just connect it with a USB cable. I found one from when I bought the play and charge kit years ago on the Xbox one.

As a quick note, if you pick up a used Xbox controller or find one lying around for this, only specific Xbox One or later controllers support Bluetooth. The easiest way to know is to look at the area around the Xbox button. If the area has a shiny plastic that does not match the rest of the controller's front, then it is an older model and does not support Bluetooth. That controller would require the wireless dongle to work.

Also, if you aren't sure if your PC/motherboard supports Bluetooth, in general, most WiFi adapters these days are combo WiFi + Bluetooth adapters. So, if you know your PC/motherboard came with built-in WiFi, then you should have Bluetooth too. Honestly, that's the main reason why I never buy motherboards without WiFi built-in or at least one that supports adding it in later. (Some boards have both a WiFi and WiFi-less version that simply provide a slot that the WiFi version uses.)

Although, as @sze5003 mentions, you can also just connect it with a USB cable regardless of whether it's an older or newer controller. The one nice benefit of the newer Series S/X-based controllers is that they use USB Type-C instead of Micro-B. My poor Logitech K830 keyboard is a good reason why Micro-B should be avoided for peripherals. Also, thanks to Facebook/Meta adding that specific keyboard as one of the two that can be used with the Quest, the price has doubled. (It's pretty much the only small backlit wireless keyboard with a built-in trackpad.) I'm only a little salty over this. :p

Yes. But if I am going to play with a controller, if I buy it on XBox I have the option of walking 20 feet into my living room from my office and connecting the Series X onto my pretty good 65' tv with a decent soundsystem and play in that environment, or just keep it plugged into my pc gaming monitor and play that way. So I have more options. If I buy it for PC I have one option.

If I had a 4K monitor and the TOTL graphics card and CPU for my PC then I'd be tempted to get it for PC for the eye candy, but playing it on a couch on a big pretty TV is more enticing than my i7 chip and 6600xt setup on a 27" 1440p monitor though. I bought Dying Light 2 for Xbox and it's the first game in a long time I've played away from my PC monitor since I play usually only shooters with a M&K, and it was a blast.

Well, you aren't missing much yet anyways. Controller is broken on PC for a lot of folks. I tried playing and only the mouse responds in game.

I thought it's out tomorrow. Or did you change time zone to try?

Pre-ordered it yesterday, played less than an hour today, requested a refund. Maybe I'm not cut out for these kinds of games, but I was underwhelmed. And given that it is almost $90CAD, not sure I want to continue. Hence the refund request.

I am on East Coast and just finished downloading. FROM and Bandai usually release the game a day earlier as its already the 25th in Japan.

6pm EST for PC, midnight local time for consoles. Meaning you can set your timezone differently on the XB and play now if you desire.

From the reviews, you are just getting started in the first hour. My friend sent me a YouTube video to watch to prepare me for the game since I've never played a souls game before. Also watched a video on the classes

Just checked Steams stats. 763,559 In-Game

The hype is real. Anyway I seem to be getting a black screen every few minutes. I think I will wait a day or two until some bugs are sorted.

This guy is pretty good at these type of games. He does a lot of the walkthroughs too. This is who I followed along for demon souls because I'm completely lost when it comes to these souls games, yet I keep trying them for whatever reason.

Validated something that I should have thought about years ago. I have been using Eneloop Pro batteries in my Xbox controller for years. Also had disconnect issues as the batteries lost charge, but it's happening a lot when fully charged. Took the multi-meter to them and they are putting out between 1.4 and 1.45V fully charged. Swapped over to alkaline Duracells which measure 1.6V new and the problems went away. Should have known better, but the Xbox controllers are sensitive to voltage and rechargeable batters, even Eneloops, can cause issues.

Still get random stuttering and freezes when new areas load, but not as bad as last night.

Glorious masterpiece of a game.

Had some viscous stuttering issues and framerate drops, went away after I disabled TPM*. All smooth now.

*Trusted Platform Module. BIOS setting. Do not do on win 11. Do not do if using encrypted drives. May not be the actual cause of performance improvement.

Had the issue come back, it seems the fix is simply to restart the game over and over until it starts without the issue.

A lot of steam reviews complaining about pretty poor FPS in the open world sections. Curious how people here feel the performance is overall?
