ugh prescott, you should probably change it out with either a 2.4 northwood and overclock it or get a 2.8 northwood and overclock it. The 250MHZ FSB +3500MHZ on the northwood 2.8 will be much better performance than any current intel system reasonably priced because they lack a high FSB (STILL STUCK AT FRICKEN 800MHZ!). A 3.2GHZ Stock P4 will run slower than say a 2.4 overclocked to 3GHZ.

Then why do you defend the mac?

Because I am a Mac user. I still like Macs, but I've noticed I've been getting into games a lot. I will just use my Mac as my music editing system, and the PC for gaming. I do also own a PC, Athlon XP 2600+ and 6600 GT but I don't think it will play BF 2. :(

PCs are almost certainly faster at music editing now, though you might prefer the Mac software or already have tons of money invested in additional hardware.

BTW, I'm not sure what the situation is now, but back in the day you could make a PC video card work with a Mac, and vice versa, with a bios flash.

ok ATOT, tell me which is the better buy. I didn't even try to look for hot deals, so with good shopping you could definitely improve drastically upon what I have listed.

Actually thats not a very fair comparison. See you can build your own PC and being able to do that will of course get you a better system then buying one prebuilt. Since you can't buy parts & build your own mac I went over to Dell.com to see what $2000 buys.

Here's what I got:
Dimension XPS Gen 5
Pentium D 830 Dual Core CPU 3GHz
Windows Media Center Edition
Media Center remote control
1GB DDR2
GeForce 6800 256MB
250GB SATA Hard Drive
DVD +/- RW Drive
DVD-Rom Drive
20" Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
Keyboard and Mouse

After all the discounts and shipping charges the final price comes to $1976.56 shipped!

Um.... now how are macs better than PCs again?

They don't use Windows. ;)

Linux isn't an option for software that's only available for PC or Mac.

Ok, hold on. Let's establish a few things, shall we? His dad said "it's a waste of money, let's return it and get a PC instead of a MAC." Thus, there is a budget issue, otherwise the father would have said, "we can exchange the computer if you wish." From what I can see here, is that they must not have a lot of money, and the kid is rather spoiled, demanding a lot where family vacation savings accounts will gasp for any extra air. So the father would be happier with getting a PC for his son which would be cheaper? Instead the child wants a MAC, because he thinks it suits himself better, and not for anyone else.
MAC computers do use graphics applications just as well as PC may handle them. However, when it all comes down to which life, PC or MAC will prolong itself in the computer world, it's going to be a PC. We don't see workstations and servers running MAC software now do we? Most and almost all of it is PC software, like Redhat, Windows Server's, the list is too long.
Here is my biased point of view. MACs are a rip off. I don't care if you're going Intel or AMD, but if you're going MAC, there is something wrong with the picture. No school disctrict in the world should approve of MAC CRAP. I can't believe the schools are buying MACs, which only last them like 1 or 2 years. Some school are still running pentium II's, but that's a different story. Migrate your damn platforms for cryin' out loud, and switch to PC's.
MAC's suck. The market should never have MAC's out ever, unless they're for the people who want to throw their friggin' money away and cry because they have a pretty 1 button mouse or a 2nd button on their mice that offers pointless menu options and the color changing of folders. Interface sucks. People have complained about Windows so long, that when Windows XP did it right this time, MAC users just had to shut up. Talk about Longhorn and x64. Can your MAC run like that, hell no!
