Look at small form factor machines and mini PCs on Ebay, refirb/upgrade them, resell for a fair price. Easier than laptops and more versatile. People in need don't need gaming laptops, they just need a basic computer they can use to go online and apply for jobs, or do basic work if they find a WFH job, etc. Giving stuff away is not sustainable, you need to at very least break even. Ideally make a bit of profit so it's worth while, your time is still worth something.

If you are actually that serious about it look at registering as a non profit once you're established and you've done enough that you think this can go somewhere. Then you can get donations which would go towards getting PCs to refirbish. Try to get in with companies that are offloading life cycled machines that are still going to be very modern and usable and since you're a charity they might even give you them. Now is a good time with windows 10 end of life as all the PCs that don't have TPM will be life cycled but are still perfectly capable machines. Put windows 10 or Linux on them.

I said this earlier, I wanted the laptops to have at least 1 year warranty, I don't think you can have that on a machine that's refurbished or used.

I also wanted the laptops to be a console-killer because I feel you don't need any more performance than that, as long as your computer is on par with the most powerful console, which is the PS5Pro, you should be in the clear until the next console comes out.

And I wanted the computers to be laptops instead of desktops mainly so kids could either fit it in their backpack or carry it around, you can't do that with a desktop.

Less yapping, more doing.

Come back to this thread when you have donated your first gaming laptop. Otherwise you are just wasting electricity like AI.

Are you going to donate Steam cards to pay for modern games too?

Well, they'll have fun playing solitaire and minesweeper. Don't really need anything else.

There's a bunch of free games on steam.

Maybe if they make a steam account id gift them "Arma Cold War Assault" which usually goes for $5.

This is the first FPS with air/land/sea vehicles and set in modern times.

I think learning how to mod this game should be taught in schools.

That appears to be a 24 year old game?
Ah, if only we could harness the energy of your endless supply of bad ideas and use it for something beneficial.

Arma 3 is a sequel to Arma Cold War Assault and is the oldest game that has Air/Land/Sea Vehicles+mod support+still has a active online community.

Arma Cold War Assault no longer has a active online community partly because it originally ran on GameSpy which was defunct in 2013.

I think it's important to go back to older games sometimes because it's "SIMPLER" you should learn the simpler things first then move on to more complex things.

Also, with my RTX 5070ti laptop I can get 200+ frames when playing in dogfights with 60vs60 planes in Cold War Assault.

In Arma 3 I get about 60fps for 60vs60 dogfights, I think the extra frames in the older game is more pleasing.

Plenty of proprietary software taught in school. Photoshop, AutoCAD, mathematical, etc.
Doesn't make it right. People do stupid shit all over the place. Teaching proprietary software teaches dependence, and sets the hooks in early. Teach software that be examined at the code level, and is affordable to everyone. Afterward, they can take that knowledge to any software they choose. If they need to be taught exact keystrokes, they aren't cut out for it anyway. Business school might be more their speed.

Shrug, you are not obligated to take these courses.

So as you want to do this charity and you realise that ChatGPT isn't achieving anything what are you planning on actually doing to drive this forward?

I plan on getting a construction job soon and when I do I'ma give the first gaming laptop to my cousin's 3 year old son.

The next laptops will go to the younger relatives of a lady who lived near my parents who was really nice to me growing up.

After that I'm going to go around random houses in my old neighborhood and search for homes with kids who appear to be poor and give them gaming laptops.

In the distant future I plan on working at a photolithography plant, and if I earn good money, like $100k+year, I'll save up for a few years to make enough money to give every kid at my old elementary school a gaming laptop.

And I'll ask people for donations.

The three year old doesn't need more toxins near him.

Also, gift to family members is not charity.

Bro, you're 31 years old. How and when do you expect to gain the qualifications to work at a photolithography plant when you put off your construction job for a year because of one mathematical calculation?
