I'm excited to see it. I read the book awhile back and I'm guessing the movie will end somewhat differently.

That is how ratings should be. The average movie goer doesn't care if the lighting wasn't consistent with the style of the film or if the score was dated. They care if the movie is worth watching, and the "recommend / avoid" is the best way. I generally go by the user rating, if I am on the fence. And if more than 50% like it, I'll give it a try. I figure more people who dislike something are going to post about it, so a 50% rating is likely closer to 65%+.

I'm surprised that this took so long to get this out. We've been seeing more-or-less the same trailers for months.

It looks watchable...but NOT good enough to get me to a theater...I'll wait for it to hit the RedBox.
 
Seen alot of commercials and I have no idea what this movie is about. Gonna flop.

The commercials are basically:
"HEY ALL! WE HAVE ALOT OF COOL SPECIAL EFFECTS. YUP, THAT'S ABOUT IT"

This made me extremely suspicious as well, but the source material is at least decent and the reception so far is positive. Right now it's looking like their promotion team just had no idea how to sell it so they defaulted to pew pew.

Yup, my thoughts. Usually see this with stinkers. But it is at 89% on RT right now? Only hte ending is bad. Might be worth seeing.

Tom Cruise though. I'll never put it in my top 10.

You must not be very smart. The trailer clearly outlines the entire plot of the movie. Tom Cruise is a scrub ass soldier who groundhog days the invasion by some alien who can time travel, falls in love with Emily Blunt (who wouldn't?), and repeatedly tries to save her.
 
I thought the movie was excellent, but the ending has some serious wtf's going on. Time travel is always problematic, but the ending seemed to twist up time a bit too much for me...
 
I enjoyed the movie overall. It had a bit of a grittier Oblivion vibe, but that's probably just because Tom Cruise was in both of them. 😛 Although, the best parallel that I could draw to it? StarCraft. The mechs remind me quite a bit of Marines, but they're far less advanced.

If I had to complain about anything, I thought the music could've been a little bit better. Personally, a soundtrack is good to me if I notice it -- in a good way... not a "what the hell is this shit!?" way. I can only recall one point where the soundtrack really stuck out to me.

Oh, and man... every time Emily Blunt does that back curl thing from the trailers... :wub:! (She does it a few times in the movie.)

Oh, and for the most important, non-spoiler tidbit, there are no post-credit scenes.

What sort of issues did you have with it? If I had to guess, your problem is with the end?
My only guess about the end is that Cage gained the entirety of the Omega's time manipulation power and rewound the Omega's death to occur before his arrival in London. It doesn't really make all that much sense. If I had to guess, they just wanted a happier ending.

OK, he kills the omega and has also already lost the ability to restart the day. Then, he gets covered in some blue stuff and suddenly it is the day BEFORE and he is already in a UDF uniform and the events of the next day have already taken place and the mundane details of his squad from the next day are being played out a day early. It's totally disjointed...

The blue stuff is the blood of the Omega, which is the being that actually controls time. He wasn't actually resetting time earlier in the movie. He had the Alpha's blood in his system, and whenever he died, the Omega would reset time because he showed up as an Alpha.

He isn't wearing a UDF uniform. That's the same uniform that he had at the beginning of the movie, because he reverted time back to the beginning of the movie, which meant he never lost his military rank -- no more Private Cage. Honestly, I think I would stick with my initial guess. With the Omega's blood, he was able to revert time back to his arrival in London, but did not revert the Omega's death. Perhaps that's not possible since he's arguably the Omega now?

Who knows... honestly, I don't think you're meant to put that much thought into this movie. It's a bit more of a popcorn flick than a psychological thriller.
