I've got my eyes on this one, getting tired of all the WoW clones, anyway it has housing ,PvP,PvE,crafting etc... and hopefully this game will succeed unlike Tabula Rasa.

Looks interesting. Maybe a bit like Eve but on the ground.

Let's hope not. It does look kind of interesting though.

The only good MMO's are the ones that get canceled and remain unreleased.I must admit this one has piqued my interest though. I like the fact that there are no character levels , like how SWG was before it was changed.

Sounds interesting enough, so I signed up for the beta. However, one part that annoys me:

PvP will be an important part of the game.

Just... stop. Companies need to cut that shit out. PvP'ers in MMO's are a niche market. Focus on the damn PvE and maybe you'll have a good game. Do NOT emphasize PvP so much.

Beev dude, i disagree. Still early days for MMOs, devs are still learning what ppl what, and what keeps people playing. MMOs kinda need both pve and pvp now, unless the owners are fine with less than huge populations paying the monthly fee.

But that isn't true at all. I would wager that almost no one plays WoW for it's PvP. A game just cannot focus on both and pull both off really well. One will suffer in favor of the other. And in cases where devs try to focus on both, the end result is an overall abysmal game. Again, PvP'ers are a niche market.

Yeah but if PVP wasn't available, how many would play at all?
Using the same logic imo it's just as reasonable to say PVE is a niche market.
Personally i enjoy both, depending on my mood and whatever opportunity presents.

You and I might think WoW is abysmal, but millions of players disagree.

If you were referring to me then I might have worded my post wrong. WoW PvP is terrible. They focused on making PvE amazing and made the best MMO to date.

Edit: If you're a big advocate of PvP, then you obviously want fair, balanced PvP. You cannot have this in a gear based game. Period. Therefore, PvP in a PvE MMO will fail. Always.

They do say,
The main storyline and all associated quests will be completely solo-friendly and allow each player to explore the island of Enterra at their leisure without requiring additional help ? but there will be additional challenges where a player may need friendly support. Also, many of the player-versus-player (PvP) mechanics will be party and guild oriented for those who seek to become involved in the grand struggle for domination over controllable zones and their resources.
.

I don't understand why getting PVP balance is nearly impossible? Make races or teams maybe 3 sides add some guilds and PVP zones where there are better or higher level quests and its a win. Why can't anyone get this right?

Reminds me of Anarchy Online
I wish them luck. Making a MMO game is hard enough, especially when it is the first title.
Whenever I see a new MMO game now I start checking who is making it. So here is what I have found.

Because the devs allow people to wear l33t armor/trinkets/etc and wield god-like weaponry in pvp zones.

I say use the "Team Fortress 2" style of pvp - force the player to choose from a preselected template of armor/weapons that can ONLY be used in the "pvp zone" and let them go nutzo in until their little epeen pvp brains turn to mush. 🙂

As for the game - the graphics remind me of Oblivion [mainly because that's what I'm playing right now].

Lol - someone mentioned ground based EVE online:

Offline mode:

"In addition to their skills and abilities gained from adventuring, battling, and crafting, characters can take a "career" that will provide them with cash and other perks. Characters will advance in their career whenever they are offline. You can think of your character's career as their "day job": It's how they make money when they aren't killing mutants or battling in the Outer Territories or experimenting with lost technology. Some of the careers in the game include Holo Artist, Electro Sampler and Zero-T operator"

The ideas sound pretty cool - I for one hope it does succeed as I'm tired of fantasy based orcs and elves mmo's... 🙂

i cringe every time someone talks about the good ole SWG. I beta'ed that POS and laughed when they said they were ready to release. I knew before people started paying that there would be a big change coming to the game.

I signed up for beta too, however I don't think they are taking anyone for beta testing at the moment.

Are you suggesting that EVE Online is still a niche game? If you remove WoW from the MMO market there isn't one single mmo that can match its success and its expanding growth rate.

See you don't quite understand PVP. PVE draws people out of their carebear shells. It forces them to venture out or be stuck in a rat race, being held back by group thought. So PVP and PVE must coexist to create something better.

Once World of Darkness comes out, another game being developed by CCP-Whitewolf - the EVE creators, you will see a game that is ground based that will use PVP and PVE together to draw people in.

Maybe you just are stuck in some Everquest 2 mindset. Good PVP and PVE is out there, you just can't be scared to experience it or ... acknowledge it. FYI: If you compare EVE's playerbase on at all times... you would get 23 full WOW server population logged in average 23 hours a day non stop. On the weekends it would be more like 37. Yeah... Niche. I'd like to be that niche.

Boy, you are dead on there. I know some of the Devs who worked on SWG, and they hated the big brass for dubious decisions, and complete disinterest in the material. It was helmed by arrogant bean counters who could've cared less if it was ready or not. The main virtue of the original game was that it was so unformed that it didn't get in your way much when you had to find some method to keep yourself entertained.
