The only good MMO's are the ones that get canceled and remain unreleased.I must admit this one has piqued my interest though. I like the fact that there are no character levels , like how SWG was before it was changed.
i cringe every time someone talks about the good ole SWG. I beta'ed that POS and laughed when they said they were ready to release. I knew before people started paying that there would be a big change coming to the game.
Boy, you are dead on there. I know some of the Devs who worked on SWG, and they hated the big brass for dubious decisions, and complete disinterest in the material. It was helmed by arrogant bean counters who could've cared less if it was ready or not. The main virtue of the original game was that it was so unformed that it didn't get in your way much when you had to find some method to keep yourself entertained.
What will be the minimum specs to run the game?
The Minimum Requirements are 2 GHz CPU, 1024 MB RAM and 256 MB VRAM video card supporting shader model v3.0
What's the current state of the game?
We are currently finishing another stage of closed beta tests, with many new additions implemented in the combat and abilities system. Visuals of the game are also being enhanced with lush particle effects that complement the special abilities our testers are getting their hands on. We are adding quests and all kinds of content into the game.

But that isn't true at all. I would wager that almost no one plays WoW for it's PvP. A game just cannot focus on both and pull both off really well. One will suffer in favor of the other. And in cases where devs try to focus on both, the end result is an overall abysmal game. Again, PvP'ers are a niche market.
Are you suggesting that EVE Online is still a niche game? If you remove WoW from the MMO market there isn't one single mmo that can match its success and its expanding growth rate.
See you don't quite understand PVP. PVE draws people out of their carebear shells. It forces them to venture out or be stuck in a rat race, being held back by group thought. So PVP and PVE must coexist to create something better.
Once World of Darkness comes out, another game being developed by CCP-Whitewolf - the EVE creators, you will see a game that is ground based that will use PVP and PVE together to draw people in.
Maybe you just are stuck in some Everquest 2 mindset. Good PVP and PVE is out there, you just can't be scared to experience it or ... acknowledge it. FYI: If you compare EVE's playerbase on at all times... you would get 23 full WOW server population logged in average 23 hours a day non stop. On the weekends it would be more like 37. Yeah... Niche. I'd like to be that niche.

Sounds interesting enough, so I signed up for the beta. However, one part that annoys me:
PvP will be an important part of the game.
Just... stop. Companies need to cut that shit out. PvP'ers in MMO's are a niche market. Focus on the damn PvE and maybe you'll have a good game. Do NOT emphasize PvP so much.
11. How will the combat/targeting system be implemented? For example, will Earthrise take the traditional click-to-target approach of targeting enemies or allies, or will it be more of a FPS "aim-to-shoot" style of combat and skill management?
Combat in Earthrise will cater to the needs of the fans of FPS with dynamic, fast-paced combat. We?re currently working hard on making combat exciting, fluid and relying on both careful character development and player skill. This means that players will have to manually target their enemies (although auto-assistance will be available and will ease targeting without making it fire and forget matter) and balance between movement on the battlefield and shooting, knowing when the best opportunity is to use your character?s skills.

why are there giant rats in the future?
Earthrise is a science-fiction game set in a unique post-apocalyptic setting. After the destructive aftermath of a world-consuming war, humanity?s only hope is the Continoma project ? cloning facility meant to preserve and repopulate the pacific island of Enterra with a new society meant not to repeat the mistakes of the past. But as human pioneers emerge from the vaults, they face the challenges of survival against mutated creatures that have survived the cataclysm on their own. But the bold spirit of the survivors and the new advances in technology that make cloning widely available to all, allows Continoma to become a new authority and give the citizens of Sal Vitas, its capital, a new and bright future. Government eventually corrupts, and opposition is born in the shadows of the Noir resistance. In the wake of a new mutant threat from the depths of the resource-rich wastelands, Continoma faces an open conflict with Noir and that is the moment players come in to shape their own fate and the future of all Enterra.
6. Can you briefly explain the death penalties in Earthrise, and whether they differ between PVP and PVE deaths?
When characters die in Earthrise, they will lose every uninsured item in their inventory, and the lost items will serve as spoils for their killer. There is little difference between death by a monster and by a player ? in both cases the victor has a chance to take uninsured items of the victim as loot.
8. Please briefly describe the faction and territory control systems. You've mentioned that guild bases will be seen in Earthrise; where and when will siege PVP take place and what constitutes a valid area to build a guild base (in relation to the entire game world)?
Conquest territories will be specially marked locations on the global map that have a default defense wall and control building, but the rest of the layout is open to the residing guild to build various structures inside it. New buildings that can be built range from mines and power plants to guild-owned factories and even special buildings that add combat advantage within the region on the base. By default, guild-owned territories will feature powerful defense that will make conquest outside of a set period of time on the base possible but very hard and unlikely. When the time for battle comes however, the guild members should either be present to protect their territory or attempt to take control on a neighboring one to expand their control over the island.
