It's pretty late. The hope is your sons or daughters will figure out how their parents fucked them over without having to suffer too much.

If Goverment was limited, we'd have a chance. Our country has thrived for 200 years with limited Government.

Today we have Government run amok. They steal from people, kill people, are corrupt, and expensive.

There are no limits on Government today, when our Constitution and Bill of Rights feared Government.

So people were freer awhile ago even though lots of them were in literal slavery?

Yes, the apex of American "freedom" occurred in 1798 when our then very small and limited government passed a law which made any criticism of the POTUS or Congress a crime punishable by imprisonment. That's how much "freer" we were with "limited government."

:D

I think the problem is that people start believing their own hyperbole and forgetting that Western governments have been way more repressive historically than they are now.

Our industrial terraforming and destruction of natural habitats is largely responsible for the observed changes. We may even be indirectly responsible for the rise of the parasite that's killing off honeybees.

If we simply stopped immigration into our country, our population would level off and slightly decline. That's a step in the right direction, is it not? I think you know how "agreeable" (or not) that proposal is.

I don't see any connection whatsoever between your first and second paragraphs. The things that developed countries have done to their own land is pretty bad, however, the things that developed countries have done to land not "belonging" to them has mostly been worse.

Has anyone even considered what specific effects this extinction phase will have on women and minorities?

It depends: Do you consider the effect on men who pretend to be women or actual women? What about white women who pretend to be black women? You need to consider all factors for this extinction event. When the sky is falling, we need to make it fall hard if anyone is going to believe it.

Good questions. We live in complicated times for sure. Perhaps a government commission could get to the bottom of these questions, or perhaps we should consider how imminent the danger is and jump right to the solution by instituting an extinction tax.

...provided nothing - ab-so-loot-lee NOTHING goes wrong. Otherwise, the "clean" aspect becomes "toxic nightmare".

...and don't knock over those waste barrels over there. And over there. And down there. :whiste:

Poor Maldives, being destroyed by global warming and pollution.

http://www.sun.mv/english/4224

Oh that is cool, they must have discovered a new form of jet that doesn't cause pollution.

Local pollution does not cause local sea level rise. World pollution does cause world sea level rise. Pollution does not directly cause the level of the sea to rise. Pollution melts ice around the world which flows into the seas and thus that is how pollution is causing sea level rise.

Are you trying to say that adding 5 more airports, and the jet traffic to support them, doesn't increase world pollution?

No it does.

Although I would like to see what the total pollution of transportation in the Maldives is compared to the rest of all world pollution.

And more or less they might realize that the rest of the world is probably not going to give much of a fuck and only keep increasing pollution so they might as well make some money while they can.

This is the thing that doesn't make sense. If global warming is settled, and sea levels are going to rise, the smart guy would be investing in an area that is currently cheap because it's too cold and too far from the water. There are plenty of places in the northern US or Canada which fit into those categories, and land is still dirt cheap.

The environmentalist fanatics who are so positive that the earth is going to go up 10F in the next 5 years and water levels are going to go up 5' just love to tell us how we must spend our money to save the world, yet they don't invest a single penny of their own money in what should be a sure-win. Instead they build more airports on an island they claimed is doomed already. Makes sense? I don't get it.

Oh noes... first an extinction phase entered and NOW a medical emergency!!!

The threat to human health from climate change is so great that it could undermine the last 50 years of gains in development and global health, experts warned on Tuesday.

This is NOT end of days fear-mongering, it is SCIENCE! Guess what, things are actually much much worse than we previously thought. Of course you won't be able to tell that by looking out your window or observing the world at large, you will need to use our model to see the absolute calamity that is happening all around you.
