Our industrial terraforming and destruction of natural habitats is largely responsible for the observed changes. We may even be indirectly responsible for the rise of the parasite that's killing off honeybees.

If we simply stopped immigration into our country, our population would level off and slightly decline. That's a step in the right direction, is it not? I think you know how "agreeable" (or not) that proposal is.

The US is not the Planet.

What if I told you the real implications of our wasteful ways wont happen until after your death. Because "fast" is a relative term. 200 years is fast for some things.

If we trash the planet in our quest to elevate quality of living... did we really succeed?

If you had to dig a hole, behind your shack made of mud and if you're lucky a bit of scrap tin, for your family to shit in would you really give a fuck about the cost to the planet for your indoor plumbing? Would you give a fuck about how much shit the power plant spews out if it's the first time you ever had electricity and it was your only source?

It's rather easy for us to talk about other peoples standards of living when even our poor people live absurdly better than probably 50% of the worlds population.

What if I told you I won't care because I'm dead? Or what if I told you that people have been saying such things for hundreds of years?

No govt. did this, they simply allowed a corporation to it:

The US is not the Planet.

Habitat destruction primarily affects a locale or a region. China could pave itself and our ecosystem would still be intact. So what directly, most importantly matters to me, is our own capacity not to screw things up.

Got to start somewhere, and I think indefinite (infinite over time) growth is gross stupidity. If anyone cares about a habitable planet, that is where you start. Change our policy to stop growth.

If we achieve that, then this foretelling of doom might not be so inevitable after all.

It's Global Warming, not just one habitat.

Each Government policy that allows raping the planet contributes to Global Warming.

Of course it is, and Canada is the planet's bitch.

Before you guys get all high and mighty, try to find a stream in southern Canada of less than third order that hasn't been channelized.

...or brown with American pollution coming north. :( Not that we're totally blameless either, particularly in the last 25 years. *sigh*

Mark my words, global poisoning will kill the human race long before any man-made climate change will. (Short of a nuclear winter, that is!)
