mine is arriving Friday, as are the rest of my parts, including the DFI Infinity P965-S, but alas im getting screwed by www.case-mod.com because yesterday morning the site claimed to have them in stock, i ordered around 5am, and I get an email later that night stating they are backordered and now the site claims a date of next Tuesday. I ordered 2-day shipping to get it by Friday, so I emailed them explaining my situation and hopefully they get the hint, because obviously they screwed up in the system (their site claimed they were getting more yesterday beforehand), so hopefully they compensate me for the extra shipping charges I paid since now it won't meet my deadline and is completely screwing up my schedule for rebuilding my PC. Being at school and all, I don't necessarily always have the time to rebuild and spend the time overclocking, but I was going to have time Friday and Saturday (build friday, overclock saturday).
maybe I'll find a store that has the CPU cooler I am looking for (thermalright ultra 120, out of stock EVERYWHERE).
and since I'd have to take the mobo out of my system to put the backplate on for the cooler, might as well not build until I have the cooler in the first place. plus im re-wiring the inside in order to hide all the damned wires that are in a mess right now, so... ugh... damn you case-mod.com!!!!

/end rant
sry bout that. just venting my anger because I will have the new cpu and mobo and whatnot but be forced to stare at them for probably a week. 🙁

I would say unlikely given the demand. The prices won't come down until the market is completely saturated and the supply is overflowing.

I wouldn't worry about $20. I got my E6400 for $242 last summer... if I waited until today it would be $216(ZZF's price today). So I could've saved $26 by not buying it over 7 months ago. I'd say it was worth the $26. 😛

No one can tell you that for sure as we can't predict the future. If you're patient though, you'll be rewarded with a better price after all the attention mongers have theirs (and the few folks who have some emergency reason to build a rig ASAP).

And honestly at this point due to how competitive pricing is between Intel and AMD, if e-tailers want to be jerks and jack up the prices, I'll just build an AMD rig. It doesn't really matter that much. Though usually there will be one or two places undercutting the rest of the e-tailers that will get you close to the $183 price. 😉

Sooo, does anybody have a tracking number yet? It would be nice to see if they are actually shipping these out like they say they are. Just curious.

A couple of posts up.

I'm a skeptic because I've seen stuff happen in the past, but perhaps I'll be proven wrong.

I don't know if I'll be able to OC it much tonight.. still gotta install the OS and everything else.. definitely this weekend though.

The parts I went with:

CPU: Intel C2D E6420
MB: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Rev.3.3
Memory: OCZ Platinum Rev.2 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400
Videocard: EVGA 8800GTS 640MB
Soundcard: Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
HD: WD 74GB Raptor and 2x WD 500GB
Case: Antec P182
PSU: Corsair 520HX
HSF: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and Noctua NC-U6

Seems like a great setup.

I guess u mean MB:GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Rev.1.3

K looking forward to the results... but im sure it will be fine...

the only thing id have questions now would be which ram should be best for some overclockin of these chips to 3.2 or 3.4...

AFAIK they aren't supposed to be selling them until the 22nd.

These types of companies prey on the impatient by tricking them into ordering. Once they have your order, you'll find that your CPU won't ship until around the official release date.

That is certainly not true mine shipped on the 9th.

Nope, 3.3. As seen here.

Hmmm I was lookin at this one at newegg... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128042

so they not the same thing? or is it just a typo for newegg?

They have a 1.3 revision also.. but I have no idea on the differences of the two.

i could order it, in holland, if i wanted too. Kinda surprised too, whats more surprising, the e6420 is cheaper then the 6400 lol. The e6320 is NOT cheaper then the e6300.

For those wanting to know the difference between the Gigabyte DS3.

  • Rev. 2.0: FSB 1066MHz, three system fan headers, ALC888 (Vista Premium Logo)
  • Rev. 3.3: FSB 1333MHz, three system fan headers, ALC888
I don't know why GIGABYTE added rev. 1.3 in the last (it appeared in the GIGABYTE website only within a couple of days). Its audio codec is sligtly out of date. It's a good buy anyway.

It is commented on this thread.

Got the E6420 today afternoon. Dropped it into Biostar 965PT. Changed the Vdimm to 2.2v and now runs at 8x400=3.2G orthos for 2.5 hours. CPU voltage is under default.

It?s under Vista previously installed on DS3.

Doh - violating Intel's embargo.. Not good if they catch wind of it. The Disty they are getting them from can get into trouble too.

And by their warehouse locations, I know where they are getting them. 😀

And yes - the stock amounts shown for availability is correct.

So where are they getting them? Is this a gray market chip? If newegg.com doesn't hurry up, I may end up buying from BLT 🙂 I've been waiting a month for this chip.

Update 1

Biostar 965PT ver c2

Vcore=1.31 Vdimm=2.18

400x8=3.2g seems orthos stable (3 hours). Don't know the temp as no monitor program installed.

Update 2
475x8=3.80g, Super pi 1m=13.6 sec

can you say what the voltages are for that second OC? What's your NB voltage and temp on it? I have a DFI P965, so looking to see what I can push the NB too.

Yah, seriously. anyone could get 3.8 with phase change and high VID. That tells us nothing about the quality of this chips overclocking ability. Posting the clock speed without any other information is pointless.

Odd that Rev 1.0 doesn't support 1333mhz FSB because mine easily does 1700FSB when overclocked 🙂

I set 1.49v for Vcore in bios, but it's reported during boot in bios as 1.47v. I didn't change NB voltage. Temp on NB, I don't know.

you hit 475FSB without raising the NB voltage? Go check the BIOS to make sure it wasn't already higher than it should be. Report back. I'm interested in this situation because the NB usually needs a higher voltage to run at higher-than-stock clocks.

to clarify, I'm not accusing, just really interested in hearing this one out.
