kI've been reading about Facebook's troubles, often they are referred to as "boomerbook". They lose market share to tiktok, instagram et al by the bucketloads.
My gut feeling is this and other forums will get a mild resurgence over time. As stated above, quality over quantity.

"Boomerbook" is an absolute classic! :D

Note I do not have and NEVER will have a Face-crap/Meta page despite being a "boomer" myself.... they're on the "MySpace" path to oblivion IMO and it can't happen soon enough.

Try as you might...you don't have a Medicare card like real boomers.

Young'uns like you always trying to get an extra year on their ID. :p

6 years, 4 months AND counting? ;)

*(unfortunately 1964 = "last of the boomers" technically.... and somehow I don't think I have much in-common with most folks born in the mid-late 1940's!)

ACTUALLY the next few months are most likely going to be a big window of opportunity price-wise for most PC components ESPECIALLY GPU's.

DDR5 is still very high but that's about it and stock for all but the VERY fastest/latest components is no longer a problem.

If you've been waiting/wanting to upgrade strike while the iron is hot.

I was looking more at server stuff so maybe that's why, but things like rackmount cases are pretty much insane expensive or just out of stock altogether. Same with motherboards, (Even desktop) cpus etc. If I wanted to build my NAS today it would cost easily double what it cost me back when I built it. If ever I do want to upgrade it I think I will end up just designing my own case, backplane etc as it will be way cheaper.

Yeah the younger generation are not on there. I think it's because they don't really want to be on the same platform as their parents. My nephews went on there a bit then stopped posting anything. I'm not even sure what social media they use. I feel like a boomer myself in that regard lol. I actually made an instagram account a while back, and I don't even see the point of it. I can literally do the same thing with Imgur or a self hosted solution.

That makes sense... I tend to keep an eye more on price/supply of gaming-related hardware and/or the VERY cutting-edge stuff. (that anyone with a strict budget won't touch anyway!)

Well, Elvis vs The Beatles was probably of the hottest debates amongst girls in high school for "real" boomers. Heck, even my mom is, respectfully, an Elvis "fangirl".

Whereas, The Beatles were already an "old" act by the time the likes of Susanna Hoffs(born 1959) and the rest of the Bangles broke out.

Underage is underage. Who do you think you are, barging into senior centers and going to stores asking for discounts?:p
Middle-agers be going back to their teen-age tricks. :p

I guess that is why my compur is from 2014,although both videocard and monitor has been upgraded.

Same here. Though I haven't upgraded the video-card, and only got a new monitor because the previous one died. Have added multiple hard drives though (and it's still not enough storage!).

My video card died, so I had to buy a new, and also added an extra ssd and sound card.

...and Ethereum will be moving to Proof-of-Stake... in a month.

(Yes, sorry, as a soon-to-be "former miner", I had to.)

That plus the glut of new/never sold "last-gen" 30 and 6000-series cards Nvidia and AMD have sitting around is quite large already. (and likely to grow near-term!)

Combined with the impending launch of next-gen GPU's the bottom will be falling out price-wise on GPU's rather shortly... just be patient it will NOT be a long wait!

If you game wait till like mid-september then upgrade the GPU... if not as long as it makes a picture and has current drivers it's 100% fine.

If you buy a used mining card proceed with caution it may have taken a beating. My suggestion would be to wait for the sales that result when all those mining cards hit flea-bay and snag a "new" one instead.

I hear the same people working on fusion reactors are also working on PoS. We are 20 years away from both working. :p

P&N often has more activity than OT now.

Yeah, all of it is dying. Well, maybe not dying but stagnating for sure.
I noticed in P&N that threads kinda go nowhere and new posts are few. When it comes to P&N, it might feel good to vent or rant over issues yet nothing ever changes. The politics remain the same, the guilty continue to get away with murder, and people just say oh-well, why bother.
So some members here just might feel like whats the point?

It's funny. I first came here to educate myself on motherboards and hard drives and computer cases. And sound cards and power supplies. Then I became addicted to P&N because #1 I think I know it all and #2 I know I know it all.
And with that preference to posting rather than twittering, I also prefer email over texting and actually sending a physical paper birthday card rather than posting congrads on Facebook.

Long gone are the days of motherboards and 720 vs 1080 tv screens and Windows vs Mac. Kinda sad. ;)

It's good to hear a resurgence is coming. Maybe I'll get around to finally completing the web design on the MySpace page and remove the flashing "Under Construction" graphics. I'll get back to you when that hit counter starts scrolling again as it was designed to. :D
