I went from being a lurker here to posting pretty regularly. There was a post earlier about "Boomerbook" and I think there is something to being younger and wanting that gratification of a large social platform, then as you age and stop giving a shit about what the masses thing you realize that you actually prefer a smaller more meaningful community to engage with.

The biggest threat to the AT forums at the moment is the main AT page's slow march to irrelevance. That was the gateway for basically everyone here I'd wager, but as AT fades into the background and cannot muster up the kind of content most people show up for then its just a slow game of attrition here on the boards.
I actually rarely ever visited the homepage in my entire time here, I showed up for the Hot Deals section. But the front page has been kind of garbage for like going on seven years now, hasn't it?

I still can't figure out how that stupid place works or even how to find follow-up and replies.
I mean, you scroll down the threads, you find one of interest, open it and post a reply. But it never comes back to the top --- threads stay in the date order of the first post. You never see if any one replied to your post without having to hunt for them. Your Profile pages shows your content, but not the follow ups. There's some kind of notification thing that floats down from the top, but it doesn't seem real time or reliable.

Try using Firefox or Chrome instead :p
The notifications work perfectly for me and seem to be near-enough real time.

It barely works at all in SeaMonkey, the greatest single browser ever conceived.

But I've been using Vivaldi for a few sites and that's what the comments above are based on .

-2020 is when AT really took one to the balls. IMO the fires that shut down Ryan's test bench and completely missing the entire 3xxx/6xxx generation of GPUs felt like the true beginning of the end for the AT front page.

Things were sparse but still functional while they had Andrei doing Phone reviews, Ian doing deep dives/CPUs, and Ryan doing GPU reviews prior to that point.

But we had Ryan shut down, Andrei left, Ian's output slowed to a trickle and then eventually he left.

Feels like a shell of a front page now. Sort of like Xbit labs before it bit the bullet.

But I've been using Vivaldi for a few sites ON MY SEMI-BROKEN WINDOWS INSTALL and that's what the comments above are based on.

Edited for accuracy! :p

Point is that the issue is with the software on your PC not the website. (although the AT forum software still ain't great it has improved a ton!)

;)

And many in P&N have contributed (vigorously I might add!) to my high blood pressure!

;)
I have never had high blood pressure. Probably my insistence on physical exercise contributes to this more than anything, but my diet is pretty decent all in all. I skated 11 miles today (miscounted my usual 10 miler! But my heart rate monitor app showed 11 on the chart). It was pretty rad.

Yes, notifications seem to work pretty well for me in Chrome. But I do miss stuff if I haven't kept track of some threads. Email notifications help me with that. I keep all those. I have filters set up in my email client. I send forum posts to my Forums folder. Sometimes I want to investigate a thread I haven't seen in weeks or months and I can usually find notifications in that folder... it can be very handy. In addition, I have a database management application that I created for myself (I've done that professionally), and I have some stuff about these forums in there, including links and more.

I am going to stamp your cool 80s kid card. However, be aware that had you used the full word radical, you would have been eligible for a Def Leppard CD.

If you are coming here now, a search engine was probably responsible. Excluding the bots/spam, it's almost always hit and run one post wonders and RBMs. Some post until the tech support is over, then bail. Attention whores go where the attention is, that ain't here.

This has been my home on the interwebz for 2 decades now. I will keep rearranging the deck chairs until we sink.

I wonder what the site is worth at this point? Pretty sure we could buy it...

I know I've gained weight, but am I gonna sink this place?
You're my best homie. We are going to use my steamer trunks as a raft ala Joe v. The Volcano.
