This may be a dumb question but isn't the data written to the layers before they are 'sandwiched' into a dual-layer DVD making a "dual-layer burner" an impossibilty without a press some hot plastic and some transparent media?Originally posted by: TheToOTaLL
Nothing beats originals though - not until dual layer burners are out![]()
[EDIT] I stand corrected. It appears that we may be seeing a 'dual' writer or an 8.5GB DVD in the next couple of years. That would be nice, but this is a great program until then[/EDIT]

Lets say i save the menus and extras, except for one extra which i left out in reauthoring. What happens if i click the link to that extra in the menu?
THanks

I suspect Blu-ray (or competitor) units will be out before you see a dual-layer DVD unit.Originally posted by: wallsfd949

[Double EDIT] I have corrected myself again. My original sarcastic post turned into curiosity and I was able to find this article about the Pioneer A06 being used (with firmware upgrade) to burn a DUAL LAYER DVD. If this is the case, I won't have to buy a new burner, I can just upgrade my firmware and burn DUAL LAYER DVDs. Sorry for the original sarcasm, and wow for the firmware upgrade..... I can't wait now... [/Double EDIT]

This thread got too long too fast. Does anyone know if Shrink does anything differently than Clone does? CLoneDVD dose all the conversions and compressing AND burns the DVD too. No need for any other program to do anything.
What benefit does Shrink have over this? Anyone know?
THanks.

Well, consider that VCDs are 352x240 rez (NTSC) whereas DVDs are 720x480. You'll be cramming 720x480 into 352x240. That'd be REAL ugly.Originally posted by: Netopia
How far will DVDShrink shrink? For instance, could one make single (though probably ugly) disk VCD's on a CD-R with it? Or how about 2-CD VCD's?
Granted. What I wanted to know is whether making VCD's is one of its capabilities...ooooogly or not.Well, consider that VCDs are 352x240 rez (NTSC) whereas DVDs are 720x480. You'll be cramming 720x480 into 352x240. That'd be REAL ugly.

ok, what do you guys use to fit a multi episode dvd like 24 or sopranos on a dvd-r. Can I just re encode and choose the 4 episodes without the menus and still be able to play of my standalone? I've backed up a few but the quality is still not the best. TIA for any help.

I see 2 reasons why it cannot do it now:Originally posted by: Netopia How far will DVDShrink shrink? For instance, could one make single (though probably ugly) disk VCD's on a CD-R with it? Or how about 2-CD VCD's?
Still trying to decide about what DVD-Burner to get, but I thought I'd start learning the software in the meantime.
