I lament it because I think this is excessive. Yeah, I haven't watched the show in many years because it's rather tough to watch, even in an "ironic" way...like when I tried to rewatch Nightrider ~1997. This stuff just doesn't age well.

Rather, I don't lament the show being pulled from TV, I just think this is approaching silliness. That being said, it's not like anyone has been happy with Brier Rabbit/Song of the South and old Loony Toons cartoons...but explicitly portraying african americans as subhuman monkeys in those old cartoons is a bit different than a background image of a flag that represents that time period.

State endorsement of the flag is unacceptable, and it seems that even republican leadership in these places agree with that. I don't think we should begrudge Bubba if he wants to wave it around on his chevy--it's not like we didn't already establish our opinion of Bubba anyway.

i've never seen this much "outrage" against it and the levels of stupid going on about it now. maybe a few people here and there mentioned it in the past. I live in the northeast so maybe thats why i've had little exposure to it? i dunno.

It has been a sore point around here for a very long time; not actively talking about it is not the same as not caring about it. I don't know why you're apparently opinionated about something like this as an admitted outsider.

i'm tired of hearing about stupid pointless shit. there's a lot more issues going on today than a flag that was created over 150 years ago. it's a bunch of people with nothing better to do.

and i'm not just referring to this 1 issue, there's tons of them out there.

I can't fault you for that, but down here in BF Murricah it's not pointless. The racist idealism that flag represents is still kicking, and it's literally a banner for those shitheads to rally around.

I've never had ANY desire to display the confederate flag until now, if only to piss off thin-skinned wankers.
 
It'd be nice if they could stop showing movies and TV shows that have Nazis as villians (and sometimes heroes, Operation Valerie). Swastikas are symbols of hate etc.

Irony here is that Germany actually outright went out and banned people from being able to wave around their Nazi flags all the way at the top at the government level. The US government didn't ban Americans from anything. You can wave around whatever Nazi/Confederate flag you want and that's your privilege as a private citizen. The only call on the government was for whether the flag should be on public property, a fine detail that seems lost on the entirety on the South.

Now, it's private businesses making these kinds of calls. "THE LIBRULS DID IT!" Actually no. TV Land did. Want your show back? Direct your hate at them.

Direct your hate at where it's due.
