Would there be all this "outrage" and banning of the flag if guy had killed white people?

well, his explicit goal was to kill black people, for being black, and he openly and repeatedly celebrated the flag as the icon of the race war he was trying to start.

...so what is the point of your question? There is no if--he fucking hates black people, was never going to kill white people, and the confederate flag is his swastika. Further, he claims it is the same for "his people."

Again, this has long been boiling over for 150 years. You live in Pennsylvania, so you simply have no appreciation for the local issues involved with the flag.

It depends on where he lives in Pennsylvania. Some of the rural areas are ultra redneck, to the point where they still have active KKK clans.

yeah, there's rednecks everywhere. What I'm saying though is that in states like SC, NC, Georgia, Alabama, Miss--these fights have been going on locally every decade, to peel away that flag various public displays. It's certainly quite different in a southern state, where you have a legislation that has been long amenable to this proud display of a euphamistic "culture." A dozen or so of these fights eventually made national news when they became so loud--not the least of which was the callous reintroduction and enforcement of the flag in cities strongly involved with the Civil Rights movement. And yet throughout all this time, there have always been groups working to get the flag off of public, and especially state, property.

I think there's a stark difference between dealing with some scattered rednecks in Ohio and Pennsylvania hanging the flag from their trucknuts, and dealing with state-sanctioned displays.

That being said, trying to remove this from history books, censoring mention of the confederacy of their flag in all types media, censoring museum...that would be ridiculous. But that hasn't happened. All we've had so far are private businesses opting to remove something that they feel will jeopardize their profits, or more cynically: gain more customers through perception of "being part of the team." I may think it's stupid, but whatever.

i'm tired of hearing about stupid pointless shit. there's a lot more issues going on today than a flag that was created over 150 years ago. it's a bunch of people with nothing better to do.

and i'm not just referring to this 1 issue, there's tons of them out there.

Talk about high horse. Weren't you just bitching about cakes? Then by all means why don't you tell us about all this non-pointless shit that we should be discussing.

Here's the thing, if you're tired of hearing about it then why the fuck are you posting so much in threads like this? Maybe because you're full of shit?

What the fuck? You really can't understand why a major symbol of racism, that for some reason has been tolerated (actually it's been outright fucking celebrated) for 150 years, is an issue today? Are you going to ask why we celebrate the 4th of July next? "It happened 240 years ago, bunch of idiots talking about it, must have nothing better to do!"

Goddamn. I feel like I'm nearly constantly saying this, but do you even fucking listen to yourself or have any self awareness whatsoever?

Oh, so you're a war criminal? Baby killer? You like invading foreign countries that haven't done anything to us, just because some weapons manufacturer and the oil companies want to get rich?

It's easy to call anyone out on anything in the current outrage culture.

I don't know, some of that sounds perfectly reasonable to get outraged over, but you're right, there's no reason at all to get outraged by anything ever.

Here's the thing if you guys want to keep allegedly "not caring" or not getting outraged, then I don't know, why don't you actually fucking do that? Instead you go around bitching about everyone else's bitching. You absolutely have the freedom to take your own stance (which seems to be shut the fuck up and mind your own business), and yet you guys can't resist doing exactly what you keep constantly complaining about.

The cries of censorship by Confederate defenders is total bullshit. They're the ones actually trying to censor history. They actively tried to whitewash it and now Texas is forcing books that downplay slavery as the cause of it.

And you know what, that is actual censorship as its being mandated by the state government. Where are all the fucking dumbfuck shit for brain fucking idiots decrying a TV show being pulled from a fucking cable channel as censorship protesting that? Oh they're not? I'm motherfucking shocked! Oh wait, no I'm not at all.

That is where Confederate flags belong in history books explaining why it's a symbol of hatred.

Hell we have dipshits (who by the way are saying they're tired of hearing about outrage over pointless shit...) going off about a terrorist flag cake trying to defend a flag used by people that have an awful lot in common with that group. They don't even seem to realize that the reasons for not making the ISIS cake are the same fucking reasons they didn't make the Confederate one.
