So we get rid of the flag entirely. Think a single racist turns over a new leaf because of it?

For all the pansies with there panties in a wad over this might I remind you that this is a BUSINESS decision not unlike Macy's dropping Trump's clothing line.

And, since the Stars and Bars is a symbol used by racists that offends millions of people why the fuck do we care that rednecks have the feeling hurt that there cherished symbol of hatred is being removed to the museums?

Those dvd sets are gonna get expensive fast.

While it sucks that 9 people died, that is not my problem, nor is the confederate flag my problem, why the hell are activists trying to make it my problem. If anything, this makes me even more apathetic (as if that were possible).

This would have upset me in 1981, when I was like 7, and cared about watching The Dukes of Hazard.

There was no "one" General Lee. They went through dozens of them. If it was a '79 Charger painted orange with the Dixie Flag, then it was a General Lee.

Over 200+ Chargers were used, abused & totaled in the original TV show! D:

so you guys are saying there were as many General Lee's as there were Lassie's, and twice the number of Alfalfa's?

anyway, this is dumb.

This is a step in the right direction. I hope they eventually wipe all mention of the Civil War from the history books. Also the Holocaust was pretty offensive in the way Hitler used ovens to gas Jews. No need to distress a new generation with such heinous acts not involving comic book characters.

When activists succeed in things like this, I mean, the reality is moves like these make the overall problems worse, you're not solving anything. The only thing activists have won is self gratification and probably a pile of "funding" donations.

Suppose that saying is true, you can never underestimate the stupidity of the of the general public.

There was one "show" car which I believe is what Bubba Watson bought. Otherwise there were dozens used during the filming of each season.

it's funny how this flag has been ok for over 150 years but now because some deranged moron had posed with it before he killed several people, it's suddenly bad and we have to get rid of it.

it's funny to see though that some of these places have banned the that flag, like wal-mart, but still sell other stuff that is just as "offensive" or worse. walmart won't make a cake with the confederate flag but they'll make a cake with the ISIS flag, lol.

too many people with nothing to do imo.

The answer is a resounding no which is what the President was explaining when his use of the n word was taken out of context. Even though the public use of the word has just about been eradicated (by non-gangbangers at least), we still have a long ways to go.

Why don't some of you take the time you spend bitching and moaning about this to, I don't know, tell TV Land how mad you are about them pulling the reruns? Because you guys obviously really care about that specifically and aren't just using this as a fallacious hyperbole.

And on top of that, people acting like this isn't accomplishing anything are full of shit. People are actually realizing how fucked brandishing that flag as a symbol is, in general (but especially for government/public places). The truly stupid are obviously going to cling to it even more now, but there's a ton of people that seriously did not (and I'm sure plenty still do not fully) understand what that flag means that are actually being given more history on it, and how it's more than just a Civil War symbol as well (the South had largely moved on from it until they resurrected it in another failed attempt at justifying their racism; simply put that flag's heritage is at best outright racism and people who try to claim otherwise need to be made to understand that).

And here's the other thing, you want people to have nuanced, educated, and informed discussions instead of just blanket banning things, then you have to actually be willing to do that. Not spout off hyperbole over shitass pop culture. For instance, when people reacted to Apple's actions got them to realize they need to take a more nuanced approach to handling this.

Furthermore, what's completely lost on some of you is how this being an issue at all (the TV show being pulled over this), let alone one big enough to warrant feedback like this, is a sign of how the things you're bitching about have actually literally made the world a better place. There was a time where we had to go to war to make it clear that enslaving an entire race was not right. Comparing the movement to stop idolizing a horrible symbol to the rise of one of the most evil fascist regimes (that has more in common with those that supported and idolize that symbol by the way) just shows a lack of awareness of history and reality.

Those dvd sets are gonna get expensive fast.

How exactly is this making it "your" problem? I'll mostly ignore how you claim that people being murdered and a symbol of oppression aren't your problem but a fucking cable TV channel removing reruns of a 40 year old show somehow is making it your problem (wow, that's so fucked up that...damn just wow). So, it's now becoming more your problem but you're somehow becoming more apathetic? Do you even listen to yourself?

It was a '69 Dodge Charger R/T :colbert: (I know because I almost bought one in the 80's :D) They stopped making the Charger for a while after 1977 after it tanked from basing it off of the Chrysler Cordoba. Look at this crap:

Anyway, yeah, there were over 200 of them, most destroyed from the jump scenes.

You're right, the Confederate flag has never been an issue since the Civil War! Well there was that whole Civil Rights thing, and well it's actually been nearly a constant issue outside of increasingly smaller pockets of brainwashed idiots. Also, that's actually kinda the point is that there were states where they thought it was ok to fly it at their government buildings in the guise of it being about "heritage" or other total bullshit attempts to whitewash the true heritage. This is more a moment of sobriety, where those remaining places that were acting like it was ok have finally reached a level where they realize it isn't and have acted swiftly to try and distance themselves from it.

Yeah because that wasn't an obvious bullshit ploy. Gee, I wonder why an American might know the Confederate flag that they were likely just recently deliberately told not to make better than the ISIS flag.

I'd be surprised if anyone here lamenting this actually still watched that show anyway.

Who cares...

the flag hasn't been OK for 150 years. There have been at least a dozen fights to get it removed. The most recent in SC< I think ~1990 or so, got it removed from the state capitol building.

Remember when Georgia went through this more recently around 10 years ago? It has never been OK for a lot of people.

I'd be surprised if anyone here lamenting this actually still watched that show anyway.

I lament it because I think this is excessive. Yeah, I haven't watched the show in many years because it's rather tough to watch, even in an "ironic" way...like when I tried to rewatch Nightrider ~1997. This stuff just doesn't age well.

Rather, I don't lament the show being pulled from TV, I just think this is approaching silliness. That being said, it's not like anyone has been happy with Brier Rabbit/Song of the South and old Loony Toons cartoons...but explicitly portraying african americans as subhuman monkeys in those old cartoons is a bit different than a background image of a flag that represents that time period.

State endorsement of the flag is unacceptable, and it seems that even republican leadership in these places agree with that. I don't think we should begrudge Bubba if he wants to wave it around on his chevy--it's not like we didn't already establish our opinion of Bubba anyway.

At least don't be clueless when spewing dribble from your mouth. Almost no one actually talks about the flag of the confederacy cause most people have no clue what it fucking looks like. It's the battle flag of the Army/Navy mostly shown that people assume to be the same.
