Bah, it's confirmed by 3d Realms. Forum link. You might need to try that link a few times, their servers look to be getting hammered.

I don't see anywhere in there where its been confirmed. In fact, George Brussard's latest blog post talks about reaching a milestone and having a BBQ at work tomorrow.

I have no idea if this is true or not but that link didn't confirm anything one way or another from what I can see.

"Journalists" have claimed they played it, and it was fun. I sense plans within plans here.

Looks like the free ride is over. Those developers must have had the comfiest job in the world. Not producing jack for over 10 years.

doubtful they gave up, they ran out of money. Not sure what they did for the past 13 years, but they have stayed receiving money to develope the game. Pretty damn impressive that after ohhh 4 or 5 years companies were still willing to invest in 3d Realms to keep them going. This is sad news. I don't care how long it's been in development I wanted to play it. And there has been video of people actually playing it. Not just pre-rendered "this is what it MIGHT look/play like. Sad sad news. I hope another developer picks it up, I would imagine they have a lot done. Enough to where another team could finish it up in a year or so.

Didn't they publish Max Payne and Prey?

Whoa...I never thought I would ever see the day when DNF was either released or canceled, we'll need something else to joke about when something is delayed.

They should release their work in progress as open source if no publisher is willing to pick them up.

No, I think it will still stick around just like horse armor.

This makes me sad, I had always hoped DNF would make it out.

DN 3D was such an incredible game.

3D Realms was also just about the last of the independent developers out there too.

I would not be surprised if the same guys start up a new studio and show a new game that looks surprisingly similar but still different enough that they could ink a better publishing deal.

Kinda sad, but I guess to some extent they deserved it. If they couldn't secure more funding it's probably safe to say that Duke Forever was still far from done, and you can't go on for ever producing nothing (though they may have set a record).

It's on page 4.

It's not a marketing thing. It's true. I have nothing further to say at this time.

i think if the they havent kept switching game engines, duke nukem forever would have came out years ago.

The sad part is, it was completely unnecessary to even do this. Duke 3D was pretty outdated graphically the day it came out...the fans of the series don't care if it has cutting edge graphics. All they really had to do was update the graphics somewhat, make a bunch of new interactive levels and release it. It wouldn't matter if it was a new killer app, it would have sold hardcore.

Yep, they could have been on game number 3 or 4 at this point. Not counting the old side scrollers or the like, i'm talking about FPS style DN games.

It's a sad day indeed.

Gotta say if i was taketwo i wouldve done something a long time ago. I dont like it when publishers interfere with developers games because they usually ah heck everything up like EA, but 13 years? Thats madness...

I actually read (not sure if its true or not based on the source) that taketwo didn't really have much say since the game was mostly self financed? Seems odd, but then I'd have to imagine there just aren't investors dumb enough to have strung it along this long otherwise.

I know this is likely to be the truth, as this is the epitome of development hell if there ever was one. But I'd also like to see the game come out within the next week or two and it ends up that George Broussard and 3DRealms succeed in trolling the intarwebs in the grandest fashion of them all.
