Drunk driver runs over grandfather and a child

Ive said it before and I'll say it again, drunk driving needs to be a capital offense. Or at the very least the same punishment as carelessly waving a handgun and randomly firing. Its stupid, its dangerous and should never happen, not even once. If you are old enough and have the money to drink, you are old enough to know better and get a DD or taxi.

i agree. but there needs to be a re-work of the DUI laws.

This guy should get attempted murder charges. he hit them then fled. he made the decision to drink and drive. then made a worse decision to run. we need to make that a felony.

if he has had any previous DUI's he needs to sit in jail. IF he can't control himself and ran them over he is not safe in public.

I would rather him sit in jail for life then some kid that got busted with pot or stold a car.

Surely there are some kind of laws on the books saying when someone commits more then 3 crimes at one time, then it should be grouped as a felony?

Mandate foam bumpers be installed on all motor vehicles!

Actually some modern cars are basically foam covered with plastic. It makes the car better at slamming into trees, but it also means minor "fender benders" are actually "fender shatter" and the whole front end of the car needs to be replaced.

My wifes brother was also killed by a drunk driver that fled and was never caught. Drunk drivers are the worst kind of asshole in my book. I say pull 'em over and put a bullet in them. I won't drive the same day I've drank. I either get a DD before hand or get a taxi.

We had a similar case around here, earlier this year. Douchebag in a raised white-trash pickup truck doped up on sleeping pills ran over a class of like 3rd graders and killed 2 of them and seriously injured many more. Dickshit only got like 18 months. Should have been shot in the face. Not his first time, either.

if there is such a consensus on what should happen to repeat offenders of DUI, why is the law the way it is? you'd think someone would do something about it.

Because the people who write the laws don't have the best interest of society at heart.

Please tell me that you're not stupid enough to believe that politicians represent or make decisions based on what the general population wants.

He has been charged with
Three counts of felony failure to stop and render aid. Basically three 3rd degree felony counts.
Three counts of intoxication assault. Three more 3rd degree felony counts.
One count of causing an accident involving an injury. Misdemeanor.
One count of passing a school bus and causing serious injury. Misdemeanor.
One count of DWI with an open container. Misdemeanor if first offense.

So yeah hes been charged with felonies.

Hes also not likely to get out on bail unless he can come up with close to six figures to get a bail bond.

He'll get 10 years, and be out in 6-7.

LOL

People who drive when they know it's dangerous absolutely deserve to be in the gas chamber. That goes for drunks and it applies to people with epilepsy.
"It's not my fault I hit those kids. I had a seizure. herpa derp"
(people with epilepsy are not allowed to drive, just like drunks are not allowed to drive)

Actually, people with epilepsy are not allowed to drive, alcoholics are not allowed to drive when they are drunk.

It's like saying someone with epilepsy shouldn't be allowed to drive while having a seizure!

Woman Sued for Rescue Effort in Car Crash

in its decision, the supreme court made reference to common-law principles, saying that a "person has no duty to come to the aid of another. If, however, a person elects to come to someone's aid, he or she has a duty to exercise due care. Thus, a 'Good Samaritan' who attempts to help someone might be liable if he or she does not exercise due care and ends up causing harm."

they don't know it is, you don't understand an alcoholic mind. how do you not know if he was in a blackout? ive known tons of alcoholics and they do totally dangerous stuff that they would NEVER EVER do when sober. and yes its a condition.

and im not saying he doesnt deserve serious jail time, he does...but everyone who says "just kill them" are taking it too far.

alcoholism is a DISEASE. fact. its science.

Well then they still deserve the death penalty because their brain is so far beyond broken that it can't possibly be fixed.

Actually it can be fixed. Alcoholism is treated by giving the person a GABA agonist that feels slightly similar to alcohol but not as strong. The drug has a higher affinity to GABA receptors than alcohol, and this causes alcohol to not make the person drunk even if they do drink. Lots of drug addictions are treated this way. SSRI drugs like citalopram completely stop serotonin drugs like MDMA (ecstacy) from working. Dopamine drugs like bupropion dramatically reduce the effects of cocaine.

Simply put, this person needs to die. Effective treatment for alcoholism is available and they still refused to take it. Fuck this person. Their life is worth nothing.
