My only grip is they arn't so harsh on alcohol. The taxed the crap out of cigerets, but alcohol is untouched. I never pulled up to a accident were some guy smoked too many cigerets and plowed into a van full of kids.

Now i don't have any answers or idea's on resolving any of it, just MO.

As for second hand smoke, Unless your in a place were it's constant and your there for a long time....It's not going to hurt you any more then you did to yourself putting the krylon touch on something in your garage.

Oh wait, weed vs tabacco :D

I agree Totally with EngineNR9 I am totally Pissed with how people who smoke are treated by the goverment.

I happen to be a very curtious smoker ...I just wish non-smokers would give a $hit about my needs also !!

How would you like the goverment to Impose a outrageous "sin" tax on computer equipment because you could be allegedly downloading pirated software on it?

Well thats the way I feel about the goverments bull$hit tax on my vice...I do not like to be targeted or treated like a second class citizen !!

I pay a ton of Taxes to the goverment who like to return the favor right up my ass !!

I pay Fed tax, state tax, property tax, County Tax, damn don;t they get enough out of me already?!?!?!

ausm, you're being taxed not because you're committing a "sin", but because you will continue to pay the tax no matter how many times they increase it. You may cry foul at the higher taxes, but the only choice you have is to quit. The government knows you won't, so why not try to squeeze a few more bucks out of you?

I don't know if I should bring this up . . . but if you are tired of paying taxes . . . tobacco plants are really easy to grow.

If you live in an apartment, co-op with a smoker who has a garden. All you then need is a drying shed and a cigarette rolling machine. You will probably have a longer and healthier life smoking your own since it is not filled with chemicals like the commercial crap.

Alcohol is an integral part of Western culture. Heck, Western culture pretty much revolves around the consumption of alcohol. For that very reason, alcohol is legal.

Tobacco plays an important role in American history. The central chunk of North America might never have been fully colonized had tobacco not been "discovered". Also, tobacco doesn't impair your judgement like most other drugs, so there's no sense it making it illegal.

Totally false.

If this were true we would have very few smokers. Although tobacco smoking is proven harmful, life-shortening, linked to serious diseases, expensive, offensive and most smokers say they wish they never started and would like to quit - they still continue to smoke and make excuses for it (even defending it in the face of all reason).

If that is not impaired judgement, please show me where I am wrong.

Speaking from experience:

Cigarettes: They suck, they leave a bad taste in your mouth and there is no real effect either. Just looks cool sometimes, specially those X-tras - black with cloves. But who wan't to do it just because it looks cool? No.

Alcohol: The legal "drug" is just plain stupid. It's obvious our bodies weren't designed to intake alcohol. Lots of awful side effects, kinda makes you a jerk too. The hang-over is an awful feeling, and throwing up is just stupid. It's good to experience is once. That's it.

Weed: Not more dangerous then the other two, just outlawed for political/business reasons. The total effects have not yet been researched, but overall it's a relitivly safe drug. The most fun out ot the three, you don't have a hangover. It can hurt your respitory system if you are not used to smoke. Best when taken moderatly, you can cool the smoke down so it doesn't burn your throat, use an iced cup, or eat it in food. The high is awesome, but the fact remains that it's still bad for you. However, the best bang for the buck with the least side effects. Can also help you comprehend the complexity of life...if it's good weed, or just make you go stupid if it's bad weed. Either way you'll laugh your ass off, and gain a few pounds from junk food. Music is awesome too when you are on weed, and food tastes great. If you haven't done it give it a try, it's not addictive either. Just plan it out, don't do it becuase you are a loser and have nothing better to do...which is why most people do it. Don't over do it either.

Hard drugs: I personally have never tried these and don't plan to becuase of the danger involved. Stay away.

Right now, the only drug I would do is weed, but only a couple times a year, that is if I had a hook up, which I don't. Otherwise, the other two are a waste of time.

aPOPPIN I don't know what planet you are from but the growing of tobacco is regulated by the FEDS...thus they can screw me hard on the tax :)

"Cigarettes are mild sedatives. They take the edge off stress and can actually help your thinking & judgement in that sense. Also, like alcohol, cigarettes are integrated into our society and culture."

Am I the only one here who thinks this guy is an idiot?

Last time I checked, nicotine was a stimulant. Ever seen a biology professor drop nicotine into a aquarium of micro-organisms? They sure as hell don't "relax and chill" as you put it. They go psycho, swim around like bats out of hell, and then suddenly die.

The only reason cigarettes are sedatives is because they are sedating the addiction that they caused.

ausum, tobacco like alcohol is regulated by the Feds only if you are selling it or produce more than the limit for personal consumption.

Unless you can show me where the law has changed, you ARE allowed to grow enough tobacco plants for your family's usage (UNtaxed).

Grow Your own Tobacco - Click here!

Evidently growing your own tobacco is not only legal, it is easy and healthier than the commercial crap. Plus it is not taxed for personal use.

I have always been in favor of growing/producing my own, whether it be sprouts, fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs, goat milk, etc..

It's a little work but the satisfaction is priceless (insert commercial here).

EDIT: Link fixed.

apoppin, any chance you can find a link where people can easily make nicotine pills? My central problem with cigarette and cigar smokers is with second-hand smoke and littering. A pill would address both issues nicely. :)

But for the meantime a public service annoucement: do your nicotine indoors and please dispose of your garbage properly! Stay out of sight and benefit your fellow man.

JellyBaby I wish there was a pill so I could ignore Pompus a$$holes like yourself :)

Putting ALL somers in the same group is very self rightous IMHO

So what you mean is I should be penalized for my smoking which when I started smoking it was considered socially acceptable and condoned by the goverment, but now is considered taboo?

I am addicted along with millions of other people which will probably die from people like you Bitching about our smoking then from cigarettes themselves :)

Apoppin Thx for the Links I guess I should have clarifyed...I have no desire to grow my own tobacco.

I just believe that when it costs approxiamtely .50 cents to manufacture a pack of smokes and the producrt is sold at time for 4 dollars a pack that pisses me off.

Also our two faced goverment that we have allows legislature to pass assinine antismoking laws yet uses those "sin" taxes I pay to subsidize the tobacco farmers?

WTF is this world coming to?!?!?1

Oh I forgot to add another thing...If the goverment truely gave a $hit about people giving up smoking then why don't they doing something constructive with the tabacco tax like maybe subsidize programs which help people break the addiction...

ausm, I'm the a-hole, huh? I don't offend anyone by filling the air with toxic stench. I don't toss crap out my car's window just because I don't want to clean my ashtray (why the hell are these still in cars btw? why not add a built-in bong or two or self-cleaning needles? ). I'm not the one damaging my unborn child by doing nicotine during pregnancy.

I could care less whether doing nicotene is socially acceptable. And I'm sorry you're hooked and really hope you can come clean. Both my parents managed to stop using and they really are better people for it. I laugh everytime my father comments on how he can't stand going into smoke-filled environments anymore. He used to force me into them. Ugh!

EDIT: fully agree on government hypocracy and education concerns. It's saddening. :(

First of all, you're welcome ausum. I don't figure many people would grow their own anything. However, you could team up with a friend who does like to garden. It would be cheap and healthier.

Secondly, JellyBaby, yes it is rather easy to extract the active ingredient from tobacco to make into pill form. I expect you would need grain alcohol as the solvent. However, that doesn't address the addiction to "smoking" which is far more complex than the addiction to nicotine.

The so called Drug war is the most stupid thing that has ever existed.
Alcohol and cigs are legal but the rest is not. What a farce.
Millions of people are sitting in jail just because they wanted to get
high. What's so wrong about getting high that I have to go to jail for it.
It's ridiculous.

people are also missing the small point that most of the CEO's of big companies and such have done drugs, from weed to acid etc. in the past.... and now they're multi-billionairs, and the people who got all of this outlawed. go fig

ausm, no worries. I took no offense (it takes more than one flame to cause my bile to rise). Yep, this issue is a personal one for me as well and I understand the tone you took. Regarding apoppin, sometimes he's entirely too reasonable and I'm tempted to flame him just for that. So far I haven't. ;)

toph99, I'm not sure of your point. CEOs achieved success due to their talent, not from drug use. As for outlawing anything, I'm generally not in favor of government bans and prohibitions. Education is and always will be the key. I hate to muddy the issue but lets take abortion. My idea of a perfect world would be one where a woman is free to choose what happens to her body but would never (under most circumstances) choose to murder her child. Education might lead to that end but government pressure and laws certainly won't.
