There comes a point like.. right after you learn to read that you don't need school or a teacher to learn.

Mathematics?... I've taken some of the harder courses in highschool and college. Math is one of the most over-taught courses there is. It literally takes less than a minute to learn what they take 45 minutes in class to teach. Furthermore teachers aren't even needed. Home-schooled children turn out smarter in general and often teach themselves from the book. "Read the bold print... done!" Can you imagine how a math teacher felt when he kicked me out of his class for a week, and when I came back for the weekly test I was the only kid out of ~60 kids that got a perfect score on his test? I wasn't taught, and I spent 1/40th of the time in the book that I would have spent in class. I'm not trying to brag here, just pointing out that kids can learn much faster without a teacher. I tutored in college.... this was stupid easy!.... Tell them to show you where they are in the book. Have them show you what they're having problems with. Find the bold faced print in the chapter that pertains to it and point it out to them.... done!

People can learn things on the job. Field experience counts a lot with employers. Furthermore many employers are learning that un-educated people tend to be more productive and try harder. Of course some require a HS diploma or GED, but GED's are stupid easy to get. For ambitious people, it's easy enough to start your own business. You'd be surprised how easy it is to get someone to work for you making money for you.

IQ's (Book Smarts) are worthless. What makes somebody truly smart, in my opinion, is the ability to problem solve and troubleshoot (Street Smarts/Man Skills).

Figuring out how to build something out of nothing, fix something using ordinary household tools (hammer), etc is way cooler than some cheesy number found online.

It looks like your 163 verbal IQ still isn't high enough because archane isn't a word. :p

Hmm, must have left out a decimal point...

Leave me alone, I'm tired!

Edit: Besides, I said verbal I pronounced it correctly when I was thinkin bout ma sentence.
:)[/quote]
don't feel bad you just misspelled it...the word you were looking for is...

Main Entry: ar·cane
Pronunciation: är-'kAn
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin arcanus
Date: 1547
: known or knowable only to the initiate : SECRET
<the arcane rites of a mystery cult>; broadly : MYSTERIOUS, OBSCURE
<the technical consultant's arcane explanations>
I was tested twice...once in junior high and again when I joined the Navy...same score as you, and IMHO High School was a joke...I could have skipped the last 2 years and it wouldn't have made much of a difference...they even put me thru college prep courses...called it the "gifted" program...It definitely does not prepare you for the real world

I agree;)

ma·te·ri·al·is·tic [ m tree lístik ]
adjective

focusing on material things: concerned with material wealth and possessions at the expense of spiritual and intellectual values

There is more to life than just learning, I believe. You could be dumb and a very nice person and that'd mean more to me than a smart person with an arrogant tone.

Being kind is more important than being important.

Now now, we all know life isn't about being smarter than everybody.

It's about being richer than everybody.

By the way, people can be "materialistic" about knowledge or intelligence as well as with money and posessions. They all work to feed a person's ego. Some people would consider intelligence more important than money, and so it would just depend on what your values are.

first off, you guys don't need to be so mean, xclan just wanted to share his happineess. jesus.

second off, school is useful, some of you may be able to get by without it, but for most people looking to get a well-paying non-business job, it is useful.

Exactly! I have a ton more respect for random ingenuity and makeshift products that save yourself time, money, and a trip to the store. Awesome.

I see your point. Pride shouldn't be an exit though. People should just be happy with who they are and not competing to be better than everyone because usually in the end it proves nothing but who's nice and who's and assh0le.

Ah and another thing. Surely you know the saying of Einstein: Imagination is more important than knowledge. Seems to hold true with creative people like Spielburg. I heard he couldn't get anything about a D or a C if he was lucky. School isn't for everyone.

>>No matter what you scored on the I.Q. test, you were stupid for dropping out of school.<<

-Sorry, but this is one of the stupidest things I've heard. First off, 99% of your time spent in school tends to be wasted. It takes ~1 minute to learn what it takes them ~45 minutes to teach. If children were allowed to work instead of go to school, they could earn more than enough money to start a small buisness and be self employed. There are people making a good living off of ebay who need less than a 4th grade education. The hard work and money I've seen some people spend on college could have landed them retirement by the time they would finish college, and finish paying off their debt. I've worked alongside people with 8 yr degrees who couldn't find work in their field. School is for people who need help to succeed, or for people who want to be something particular that needs a degree. 8 years slaving through college + 8 years of slavery to debt = 16 years you could have worked and become a millionaire.

Your logic is severly flawed.

First off, 99% of your time spent in school tends to be wasted.

You spent only 1% of your time actually learning to read and right ? OK

I guess diplomas don't mean squat to employers

I go looking for a job,I and another person who does not have a high school diploma applies at the same time, who do you think they are going to hire ?,someone who graduated and has a diploma,or someone who doesn't ?
Having paperwork showing that you have an education will get you much farther in the job market than none at all.

There are people making a good living off of ebay who need less than a 4th grade education.

Tell me exactly how every non grad is going to become a millionare again ?
If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.

It is very obvious that you have no understanding what so ever of how the job market works.

Wake up,this is the real world

Yes Roger wake up. I've only got a 2 year degree but loads of work experience. At the same time my friends were graduating from their 4 year universities, I found a job that provides full benies with a higher salary than 90% of them. I don't have a $100k in debt either.

The point is, opportunities come at different times for different people. If you are able to go to college early, then it?s the right time. If you have to work then you need to work.
I'm not advocating college is bad, but I'm saying that it is not for everyone. As individuals we need to evaluate what is right for us to achieve our own goals. If one can be successful at that, then college is merely a formality.

You are dead wrong if you think that not having a HS diploma or the equivelant of is not going to hinder you at least some point in your life.

What good is intelligence if you don't nurture/use it ?

That's great. But i do agree with Roger's statement. Now since you're obviously intelligent, why don't you do something useful with that, like helping mentor a needy child? The best part is, you don't need a diploma or a degree for that.

School is bad, everyone DROP out of school now! In a couple of generations, we'll be back in the stone age again.. that would be sooo cool. That way, I get to hit the women on the head with my club drag her back into my cave...
