I just finished the Fade part and that was a bit rough and long.

oh man, I've logged in a little over 100 hours of play with DA. I'm deliberately taking my time and trying to do a majority of all the side quests and trying to grab all the loot I can. I'm playing DA this way for several reasons, I don't play a lot of video games so I like to take my time when I do. The only other game I'm playing besides DA is CoD4 for multiplayer.

The problem with the Fade level is all the back-tracking you have to do to get the stat bonuses. Sure, you don't HAVE to go back but c'mon... you know you want those bonuses.

One visit back to a zone is enough, if you do it right. Annoying to an extent, sure, but I thought getting around in Orzammar was much more annoying. Especially if you needed to go back to sell stuff.

Well with Orcazammar, you need to have pretty much maxed out inventory upgrades (I had 120) and take minimal things with you (I had maybe 30 used slots). You don't actually need to backtrack since
Ruck can serve as a merchant if you spare him. You can even sell to him and kill him later.
. Note that this is w/ my rogue stealing constantly. Also, quest rewards are always given and can allow you to go over your inventory limit.

I thought the Fade was pretty interesting and fun. Particularly if you are a mage, it allows you to test drive some of the abilities early on. Sadly, if you are a warrior/rogue, you don't get any similar option.

I've decided to just play this game on easy. I hate games that require constant pausing and strategizing, I quit playing KOTOR after like 30 minutes. I'm just going to play on easy and just play in real time, makes it a lot more fun for me. I did notice that the difference between normal and easy is very noticeable. I first switched it when I got to the Ogre. I managed to get him down to 1/10th of his health all the time, but he kept picking my characters up and killing them. When I switched to easy, I didn't even have to pause once or use a single health potion. This might have been mentioned, but I don't want to read the thread because of spoilers.

Since this is the latest DA thread:

Which game would DA most compare to? NWN 2?

KOTOR. The engine feels the same. The plot is built in a similar way (after the beginning part you have to go to a couple different places in whatever order you want for the main quest). But really this game feels like an upgraded and expanded KOTOR on crack.

Agree re the crack thingy. Kotor, I could pause. Release and watch a battle unfold/develop.

This game; YIKES... Unpause=HOLY CRAP 2 of my guys are down to 25% health.

That is why I feel cheap in using my tactic to date (see post above re AI)

I REALLY hope it changes because if it does not, I can see myself losing interest.

I just picked up that HOT little Forest Witch (Or whatever she is) in my party.
WOW....... I want her LOL
And ALL my answers will be focused around making her MINE.

Crap I need a life ;-)

Ok, how do I use the crystals i get in my inventory. It seems like none of my characters can use them despite meeting the requirements that are listed. What are these for? Are they equipable or are they like runes? If they are like runes, I assume there must be a different enchanter than Sandal to use them?

Crystals are for the recruitable party member "Shale". They are essentially armor and weapon for golems.

Has anybody successfully changed their character's appearance using the toolset? I'm trying it now. I didn't realize my character was supposed to be young, and I made him an old man with a huge beard. He looks older than his father. I wish they would have made it possible to change in the game.

edit: I was in the process of changing it, but it started to seem like too much work. I think I'm going to just start the game over, I'm not very far.

OMG. If I hear "Can I get you a ladder so you can get off my back?" one more time I'm going to throw my headphones out the window.

I agree! I have had that reaction since the fifth time he said it, and now it's been hundreds or thousands.

No offense, but you come in here complaining about spoilers and then you start posting them! Use these tags around your spoilers about anything plot related...thanks

I said he's supposed to be young and he has a father... I hope I didn't ruin the first 10 seconds of the game for you.

So far, I'm not even close on the last battle on normal. I get maybe just past half.

My rogue, with maxed devices and nearly 70 cunning, can't fix the catapults after a few breaks.

I'm wondering if the tank is useless that battle and I should bring a dps.

I didn't 'donate' any goods to build up the armies so I have about 50/50/50/13, maybe that's a problem. They all get killed in that battle.

I'm not sure what works on the demon and what doesn't as far as choosing tactics for Morrigan or things like therogue 'marking' the dragon.

Wynn gets killed too easily even though she is supposed to heal herself as tactic #1.

I did go ahead and kill it on casual.

Ah, my rogue is still using the same daggers as he started with. Am I doing it wrong?

Would you believe I made it all the way through the Fade with the stock daggers? Heh, none have dropped and I just assumed, as RPGs go, the ones you can buy are crap.

Then again, the Dwarf in camp doesn't have any to sell me.

I don't think this is a spoiler, just how the game works, but I found if you talk to weapon vendors, their stock changes, so you can do it several times to get a dagger.

hmm...doesn't work that way for me. They always have the same thing even if I completely quit the game and or go to another area and come back later.

Hmph. Well, that really, really sucks. I've had very few weapon drops in general, let alone daggers. I've gotten one decent longsword and a mage staff and that's it. Wtf, DA:O?

What level are you? The dagger I got for registering the game is insanely powerful, I believe it's called 'The Edge'. Unreal.
