wth. I'm on the as your heart burns mission. It says appropriate for levels 8-11. I am 11. I am getting f**king schooled over and over and over on the "aim trebuchet". I simply have no potions left, all supply caskets empty. I have iron bull plus two mages and varric, which have proved an utterly devestating combo before this against absolutely everything but dragons, but I make about 1/3rd through aiming and regardless of tactics I'm getting completely ruined.

Evidently after the aim trebuchet there is a boss (!). I can't even make it through the subfights.

EDIT: Crap, I think solas was on lightning staff the whole time and the bad guys in these fights are basically immune to that.

I had the same problem with that final fight, as well. 4th or 5th attempt came down to a sole-surviving Solas kiting around at ~5% health and spamming barrier off of Cooldown, and plinking the biggest ugliest bad guy for something like 34 dps. Took forever, but it worked.

:D

That one actually leashed for me without regening HP. I could run back to the cabin near the gate (I think the cabin from where you initially wake after the prologue), and the mob would run back towards the trebuchet. Run up, zap him a few times, then run back. Cheap, but whatever.

How do you use regen potions on followers? I have been trying to figure out how to do that, but can only get my primary character to use them.

I assume you mean that you are having troubles having them equip them? You can do 1 of 2 things. Either just take control of one at an encampment and click on the equip potion table, or just click on it with your main char and at the top right corner, switch characters with the arrows. You do have to move the potion of choice into a slot other than the heal slot. You may have 1 or 2 slots to work with depending on perks.

Otherwise, in a battle, just click on the potion. And if you improve the regen potions, you can get them to heal those near you as well as improve the duration and healing amount.

When I was using regen potion(max level) you have to get close to them,ie within the green circle area when you drink it(good because you can heal the whole group).

Little tip worth maxing regen and heal potion levels via research.

I had heal, regen and rock armour on my potion belt.

everyone has their own potion belt. Only the main healing potions are shared for the entire party. There is the perk from the war table to increase capacity on belt from 2 to 3--there are also rings that will do this as well, but only individually (obviously).

Go to a potion equipment table--at any camp or any hub, and equip while controlling that character. can only equip non-inquisitor while at camps.

you have the requisition table and potion table at each camp. Your hub--Haven or Skyhold, will also have the potion upgrade table.

You may have to start over, but here are a few tips:
1) There are 3 (maybe more) potion caches through out the zone. One near the requisition table, another by the alchemist, and one by that trebuchet. Try not to use them earlier in the mission so you can restock during the trebuchet fight.
2) Don't turn the aiming wheel all at once. Just turn it until you see red dots on your radar, stop and deal with the enemy a little at a time, so you do not get over run.
3) Once the boss shows up, there are no more waves of enemy that will come. It is quite possible to distract the enemy while one of your characters finishes the aiming.
Thanks. I did restart. Replaced Varric with another warrior and the fights went down tons easier. Ended the aiming with two unused caskets in the area :)

This game is the only game I playing these days and I am enjoying it immensely. I have been playing it slowly and going back and doing things differently to see the different outcomes ect.

I've never played any of the games in the series. Do I need to play the first to understand everything? Can I also skip the second? I had heard the second is an abomination.

You can play without knowing the previous games, but you'd likely understand more of what is going on, and recognize characters from previous games if you do.

DA:Origins was great. No one thinks otherwise.
DA2, if you do not compare it to DA:Origins, is still a good game, but they took some shortcuts that pissed of people who played the original, yet many people still like it. Just don't play it if you just finished Origins. It doesn't stand up well to Origins, but it is much better than many RPG's I've played in the past.

Well I'm pretty sure you can find people who dislike Dragon Age Origins, there are always more haters than you might think.

But other than that, I'm pretty much in agreement. Dragon Age Origins was a great game, well worth playing. Dragon Age 2 took some steps back from what the first game did right, and it indeed pissed off a fair amount of players for doing so. And it felt a bit rushed and unpolished. But despite that, I think it was still a good and enjoyable game, and in some respects it did better than Origins (and Inquisition), like in the way it gave your player character a more personal story arc.

As for whether or not you need to play the previous games before Inquisition, no, you don't strictly have to, but I would recommend that you do. It's not like Mass Effect series where it was a trilogy progressing from the beginning to the end of a single overarching story. Each Dragon Age game has an individual story that you can understand without playing the other games, but there's plenty of crossover with world history and characters that you're greatly benefited by playing each game in succession rather than just skipping to the latest one. Dragon Age Origins is the one most geared to being an introduction to the game universe, since it was the first game.

The first looks old now.

It really does. It looked dated even when it first came out. Not quite as bad as Knights of the Old Republic looks now, though.

Play both. Its not so much the knowledge, but the world lore. When people go on about the Chantry or wars you can nod your head because you know what happened. Its like the Witcher, both are well worth playing if you want to immerse yourself in the world.

I have just played all three in a row and I would rate them in the order they were released. Origins is an amazing, epic game; really very few problems with it. DA2 has issues and is different in many ways, but I freaking loved it only a little bit less than Origins. Inquistion is ok, but it has not grabbed me yet; feels like way more of a slog than the previous two games. It also took some of the issues with DA2 and just exacerbated them, which stinks.

You should play them in order just for the story wise.

I rank them; DA:O - damn thing is awesome. DA:I, its been while since I've been pulled into a game as much as DA:I has - DA2 - worth the story even with its issues.....now

I also liked DAO,DA2 and finally DA:I not so much in that order, problem with DA2 was rehashing of a lot of maps and really only one main town, however it did have the best chat lines between companions unlike DA:I which is like being in a ghost town or world for the most part with companions chit chat, infact I actually liked Wasteland 2 and Divinity Sin a lot more then DA:I,but most here know all the reasons why I did not like DA:I for the most part.

I just have to find some new RPG games to carry me over now to Witcher 3 or it's back to a few FPS games for a bit.

Oh yeah, DA2 did have the best banter; loved it. It also had Merrill, who is my favourite character in all of the games (maybe in any game ever) by a long shot. Add to that the fact that I lved my Hawke creation and it really endeared me to that game and easily overrides all of the flaws in it.

I don't know/remember a single one of those names. :D I loved the original Mass Effect, but I can't really recall any great characters, just the annoying red militant guy.

The hell? None of these names ring a bell and you claim to love Mass Effect? Garrus, Wrex, Tali, Joker (Mass Effect), Mordin . . . these were some of the most badass characters in the game and some of Bioware's best.

I liked Merrill in DA2, but she doesn't hold a candle to Garrus, Wrex, Tali, or Liara.

I have also played them all. My rankings would be a bit different. I would rank them as follows

1. Dragon Age Inquisition
2. Dragon Age Origins
3. Dragon Age 2

For the record all are good games and I enjoyed them all.

The trebuchet thing went easily enough for me at level 8.

Main is a qunari two hander
Blackwall tanking with sword and board
"red jenny" running dual wield (debating swapping her for cole, but it's kind of pointless. I'd like his banter less, and I think that's the only real difference)
solas running ice

It probably helped me that I had just upgraded everyone's gear from the previous story event and crafted myself some new stuff. I was able to "strategically" use caches, as I'd survive pretty okay. When my whole party was looking beat up, I'd drink what I had and re-stock.

I'm mostly pleased with the AI, and that's a good thing since the tactical view is kind of a joke. I can't issue commands like revive because you have to hold a button down, and hold position might as well not even exist.

Fallow Mire was one of the first extra areas I unlocked, and I'm just now able to run through it halfway to level 10.

Ah I remember Liara. She was cool, but I never got into the characters like I did in Dragon Age, I was more into the world of Mass Effect not really the characters. I explored every single corner and did all of the planetary missions with the little rover and everything; I could have done that stuff forever. Just loved existing there.

In DA it's the complete opposite, I have zero interest in just exploring the different areas, but I go through every single conversation I can because I love the characters so much (well in the first two games anyway, Inquisition is not so great at this point).

I don't know, they just hit me differently. I think it's probably why I hated Mass Effect 2 so much; the world just did not feel the same at all.
