Dothan @ 2.8 + DFI w/ a little bench info

the benchies suck though. only 640x480 res @ low quality? i wonder how well it does at 1024x768 @ high quality.

Perhaps just as important as the Dothan's performance, though, is the fact that DFI will be producing a desktop Petium M motherboard, with overclocking options and all.

The idea is to make it as CPU dependant as possible 😉 Unless it is 64bit though AMD is still going to have the edge 😉

Still though, 1.7ghz, under 60C, passively cooled with a dinky copper cooler. I'd like to see a 64bit AMD do that. Speed isn't everything 🙂

There may already be an AMD 64bit microprocessor that can do it@that speed.? Price is enough to cause  failure though, even if it can pull it off.

Pentium M on desktop could be the Silver Bullet for Intel + Enthusiasts.

People have been chomping at the bit to see real Pentium M performance (with high end memory, etc...) and it looks like it's not far off.

Competition is good!

So true. Prices are going to have to become a lot more competitive though w/ the low end A64's.

If they can get the Pentium M onto desktop, with some good ddr2 memory in a dual channel config and lower the prices, then amd can get some price/performance competition.

I'd love to see this processor performance once the ram speeds being used are bumped up a great deal, esp since its still only using 266 ram.

Its also amazing considering the processor is largely just a scaled up P3.

Joy- it is/will be nice to see something out of the intel camp that can let the intel fanboys run riot on the forums, it's been a while since they've had something to get excited about (thinks about 1066mhz fsb, laughs) 😛 But really- looks awesome, and as has been said a million times b4, competition is good, for us at the consumer end of the stick at least 🙂

EDIT: perhaps it's being needlessly cynical, but i can see the posts now; 'D0than is teh winnah, w00t', 'AMD sux0rs, d0than 0wnz"... and so on in that vein...oh well 😛

Is that all the info available for the benchie? I mean, why only 640x480 LQ? what were the specs of the systems used? I mean DOOM3 is GPU dependent, there are too many variables that were not mentioned. Also, their mobo has only AGP4X support right? so what gfx card did they use? if the bus was limited due to AGP4X or some other issue it could skew the result. smells fishy to me....

Thats why 640x480 LQ- its a CPU test situation not a overall system performance test 🙂
Precisely because their mobo doesnt do 8x agp, wouldnt be a very comparable system test at all- & slow RAM

Yea that's nice that they could get a dothan to go 2.8ghz, but I'm guessing that was using LN2 if you look way down at the fourth bar from the bottom you see the fastest available stock dothan 755 (2ghz). So all they did was take the fastest available chip and overclock it 40% and amazingly it beats a stock 4000+. Bah, wake me when they have a ~$200 chip that EVERYBODY overclocks to >FX53 performance like the winchesters are doing right now.

Could be nice for a SFF though; of course so is cool n quiet.

Not really that ineresting comparing a highly OVERCLOCKED M to a non OCed A64

Throw a OCed 939 A64@2.7 in there, at $215 BTW, and watch the ass whipping commence.

And where's my 64 bitness?

pretty impressive....but makes one wonder why Intel didn't take a harder look at a desktop dothan solution. or maybe they did.....
