Allegedly there's a massive bunker under the Watchtower HQ, about 30min north of me. Then there was that Canadian dude who made his own fallout shelter out of school buses.

Yes, the pedo-shelter. He has taken 40 school busses and connected them together and buried them with an underground compound. His intention after a nuclear war is that families will walk up to his front door--his second ark--and leave their kids there, but parents can't come in because not enough room. No word at all on how he intends to get parents to separate from their children and left with an old guy underground in a filthy school bus shelter.

I think the two most likely scenarios to cause a bug out would be a long term loss of the electrical grid or a health crisis like the movie Contagion was based on. Survival for me will most likely come from seeking a remote location since I'm unlikely to erect a bunker.

But, the kicker in all this is when do you make the decision to "bug out"? That is going to be an interesting quandary given that your life might depend on acting early.

hmm goofy? maybe but i don't fault them and won't laugh at them.

There are some things i think people should know. how to plant a garden, basic survival (fishing and hunting) basic wood working and such.

I don't think planning for a nuclear war is really feasible. IF its a full scale war i don't much in the way of animal or plant life will be around..thats if you even survive the fallout.

We plan for things like a house fire, tornado, etc. we also have enough food and items for a month.

I am catching up on a few episodes of last season of this. I am not sure the people were always this stupid. Some of these people are really f**king ridiculous.

Examples:
1) Guy has 30 acres of land in the middle of nowhere to bug out to. Okay, fine. So where will he live? He built himself an 8X8 "tree house" a mere 12' off the ground and wrapped it in reflective wrap so that it would mirror the surroundings. Not only does it look very visible, but if he was ever in that stupid thing with his family they all get shot to death through the thin wooden walls

2) Another guy with many acres of land to defend starts building--just himself and a buddy mind you--some traps for people to fall into with spikes. He'd need hundreds of these to be worth shit. Oh, the giveaway for his mental problems came when his wife went out to pick up their daughter because of a tornado and he couldn't get a hold of her because cell towers were out. He was starting to tear up over this.

3) Guy who apparently has never heard of fire creates a silly contraption with a huge magnifying glass and uses its heat (and it was a lot, that was cool) to boil water instead of using fire, wth

4) Guy who keeps a bunch of bees as his "prep" has them on a trailer and a way to release a single spike strip behind his trailer if anybody is ever chasing him trying to get his bees

5) guy who thought an F5 tornado was going to literally take out his entire state

Wasting your current life to protect a future life that isn't certain to happen. That is crazy.

Be prepared; a bug out bag, a month of supplies, and a plan. Natural disasters do happen.

But if the crap really hits the fan, most people are screwed. Can you hunt and butcher your own food. Can you grow anything? How far are you from a clean water source? Do you have a fireplace? Cookware that will work on an open flame? Are you in good enough shape for physical labor every day?

These include organic gardening, farming, and permaculture, herbal and alternative medicine, skills such as carpentry, water storage, food storage and preservation, exercise and self-defense, etc.

Its kinda sad that some people spend their whole lives afraid. I forget what which show this was, but it was the family business that makes these bunkers. All the fathers were afraid that someone was going to rape their wives or daughters, so they were running drills and shooting at targets around their property to get ready. And they raise their kids to be afraid.
