You really don't understand that its going to look better on the PC, do you? The graphics *will* be signifigantly better. Not might, will. Detail will be better, resolution will be better, and no gay-ass controller. Do you prefer quantity over quality? I don't. Never have, never will.

I agree with you. It will look better on a high end PC. But that doesn't automatically make it more enjoyable.

I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to keep an open mind, and try it out on both systems. Hell, maybe I'll keep it for both systems. ("Open mind"... Quite the concept around here, sometimes.

I'll believe it when I see it. Oh, and I'm bashing it just because its a console? Kid, you wanna discuss 3D graphics hardware with me? I don't care what that article says, if you think a game that Carmack has said will run poorly on GF3 will run great on XBox, you need to think again. What does XBox have over a standard NV15 graphic card? An extra vertex shader. Big deal, even a Ti4200 has that.

Believe it when you see it? Um you just did see it. And I frankly don't give a sh!t about 3d hardware. If a game runs smooth and looks good, that's all I want. I really don't care if it's running on a PC or console, as long as I can play it, that's all that matters. And don't call me kid.

Deeko is just upset it wont run on his Gamecube :brokenheart: :D ;)

Actually, I'd never play an FPS on a console. I can't stand Metroid Prime. You'll be the one upset when my 9700 pro eats your pitiful NV2A for breakfast.

LOL :D:D

Who gives a flying flip what's inside, it's what runs on it. Fact is, Doom3 is going to r0x0r on the xbox on my 50" HDTV :p

Even if I had an XBox....I'd take it on my PC over my 57" HDTV.

Why dont you just hook up deh comp on deh tv? i mean that would Bend the xbox over and give it the big'ol telephone pole :D

i can't justify the cost of getting new computer parts for that game. But i might be inclined to spend 50 bucks for the XBox version.

I think something that MOST of you are forgetting, is that the XBOX runs at 800x600 AT MOST, and AT 30FPS! Your TV won't display any faster/higher res than that
rolleye.gif
Most PC gamers want to play in 1024x768 AT LEAST, and at 60FPS. That requires a LOT more power, which is what the faster PC graphics cards will be useful for.

Also, the XBOX, while having a 733MHz processor and 64MB shared RAM, doesn't have to run Windows, and all the crap running in the background too. Which means that the whole CPU power can go for the game, to get it pumped out at 800x600@30FPS. This means that all the extra details can be turned right up, so it won't look too bad.

I'm not going to say that the XBOX version will look better than the PC version, but for playing it on a huge screen, it will look VERY good, much better than most other consoles.

And, it WILL be coming out at the SAME TIME for both PC and XBOX, that was said a long time ago, when it was announced that it would be going to the XBOX.

I too will reserve judgement on it until it comes out, but unless someone finds me a way to hook up my Logitech wireless kb/optical mouse to the XBOX, i'll probably just play it on my PC! ;)

Actually, I believe they've stated that it will run at 1080i.

Interlaced video is "teh sux0r."

And for reference, Dreamcast + VGA box = 480p :p

I suppose what this all means is that in the future any new game that is originally designed to exploit advances in computer technology will instead be co-opted by one or other of the console companies, like what happened to Halo, and probably now Doom3.

I'm sure it will look great on the xbox, it has too. The question is since it has to look good on the xbox it's not going to use all of the functionality of a top of the line PC, is it ? I doubt Microsoft would be happy if the PC version looked substantially better so the pc version probably gets dumbed down to xbox levels.

This whole scenario looks like a bad thing for computer gaming. There will be less and less incentive to push the envelope.

The incentive to not "push the envelope" cannot be blamed on the Xbox. It's a matter of target audience...

If you design your game so sweet that the minimum requirements are high (i.e. P4-2.53 and Radeon 9700), then you have just alienated the overwheming majority of PC users.

Besides, how would it benefit id software to "dumb down" Doom 3? Their goal is to sell as many copies as possible, on both the console and PC. And more importantly, license the D3 engine due to the success of Doom 3.

You have correctly described the current scenario, which is game companies want to maximize sales, period.

If a game company wants to maximize sales they go for the biggest markets. That is great for making money, short term, not necessarily the path to new ideas and developments that stimulate interest in the long run.

If a game company wants to push the envelope they design games that fully utilize all of the tools they think will exist when their game is released. For a pc game designer this means Directx9 and beyond, using the latest processors and graphics cards, to try to acheive things that couldn't be acheived with lesser hardware.

It is this process that is going to suffer, or already is suffering, because the market for pc games is more closely tied than ever to the console game market. They used to be completely seperate but, Microsoft in particular, and Sony with GTA, have in a sense hired away some of the most innovative pc game developers and interrupted the cycle of "pushing the envelope" that has lead to today's powerful computers.

The same phenomena of stifling creativity in the name of profits happens in the movie industry, the music industry, books, etc. It runs in cycles, generally, because the money chase gets so dominant that the quality of the product becomes so inferior that consumers lose interest.

I'm just saying I see the effect of consoles on pc gaming is currently reaching a point like that. I could be wrong of course.

No doubt! 5.1 Dolby Digital is awesome. I've yet to hear a PC game with the same impressive positional audio.

I play my Xbox probably more than 10:1 more than my PC.

...Prolly cuz your PC sux, dude. Heh heh.

iPaq 1910

Probably better than yours :p He works for Intel too - doubt he'd have a crappy PC.

Man, some people! Just beef up your computer, and play it like the man's way... the way it was meant to be played

Oh yes, in front of a 19" monitor instead of a huge TV with Dolby Digital surround sound. To some people (like him and me) games are better on a console, regardless of age of hardware. To some people (you and Deeko), it's better on a PC

Okay, first things first... why the hell would you waste your money on a pc with those specs (9700 pro, 2.8 p4) if you're just gonna sit around on your couch playing xbox 9 out of 10 times you play games?
And frankly, i wasn't arguing that either is more fun... i am just tired of all these idiots on this forum who say their old ps2 or xbox is some technological wonder that can best any pc... simply because it can't.

I think you'd be surprised at how little I paid for said PC. ;)

At any rate, I upgrade so that I can run the latest games and applications at near the max performance. It just sucks that there aren't any attractive games right now. I was in complete anticipation for UT2k3 and Unreal 2. Both were huge letdowns. I'm craving Star Wars Galaxies... But it gets delayed time and time again. This is the story with PC gaming right now.

Hell, just look at the game of choice on ATOT... Do you see people setting up a game of some FPS or RTS title? Nope, it's Monopoly. What does that tell you?
