I'm amazed that Microsoft didn't just pay the cash to make Doom 3 and Xbox exclusive. I mean, seriously... how many consoles would they have sold. And you know Microsoft's got the cash.

Right, because Carmack is dumb enough to isolate 98% of his target audience and not optimize the engine in order to eek 30fps at medium quality out of a gF3.

Oh, wait. You're just a dumbass.

Whoops, I just built this for $650 in about four clicks from Dell

P4 2.66
256MB DDR333
64MB ATI AIW 9000
60GB ATA100
XP Home
48x CDRW
Basic speakers, keyboard, mouse

Edit - Imagine how much cheaper that gets when you build it yourself, and use an AMD solution. I'd bet I can easily make a Doom3-worthy rig with US$500.

Once you get used to it (i.e. endless hours of Halo with buddies), its not that bad.

Plus I'd rather play it on my 50" HDTV with true 5.1 surround than my 19" computer monitor with stereo sound or headphones.

Halo 2....Doom3....Half Life 2...all on the Xbox...all without me having to shell out $500+ to upgrade my computer :D Oh, and all with Xbox Live support :D

I would hook up my comp to the tv if i wanted to play it on it. logitech wireless setup with the mx700 would STOMP the xbox controller.

You get what you pay for.

That's only assuming you have a AIW Radeon with COMPONENT output...cause all other TV out sucks...composite AND s-video.

The controler would suck for a FPS, not suck in general.

Will look like? As in future tense?

Dude, the video is already out. You can watch it yourself and see that the game looks GREAT!

i playerd a halo tourney with it and would let the peice of crap go for a keyboard without hesitation. the only saving grace is the smaller version controller which is still too big in my opinion, the best one was the madcat that was small enough that i didnt feel like i was playing with a weight in my hand

Really? I like it better than the PS2 for a FPS. Haven't played with the Gamecube one enough to have an opinion on that one.

considering that doom3 will use dx9-type bits of the hardware to enchance visuals it will most likely look better on 9500+ and nv30+ hardware, but the xbox has TONS less overhead than a desktop PC so frames should be pretty decent and the dx8 hardware of the xbox should be able to approximate dx9 functions pretty well. keep in mind that doom3 was targeted for dx8 hardware.

hey kami - what if your tv has vga in? :D

VGA in is even better. :D

My whole point is...Carmack has said already (like a year ago) that the Xbox version will retain all of the visual fidelity of the PC version. This article on gamers.com just proves that more. Also the fact that it's this early and already looking great and running smooth on Xbox is very promising.

It's a good time to be gaming :D

Now let's just pray that Doom3 for xbox has a co-op mode. Please god!!

a year ago he was probably still planning to use dx8 hardware for the pc version. now it looks like they're going to take some advantage of dx9 level hardware. things change.

:p Gotta love how people bash a console just cause it's a console, oy.

I'll believe it when I see it. Oh, and I'm bashing it just because its a console? Kid, you wanna discuss 3D graphics hardware with me? I don't care what that article says, if you think a game that Carmack has said will run poorly on GF3 will run great on XBox, you need to think again. What does XBox have over a standard NV15 graphic card? An extra vertex shader. Big deal, even a Ti4200 has that.

Believe it when you see it? Um you just did see it. And I frankly don't give a sh!t about 3d hardware. If a game runs smooth and looks good, that's all I want. I really don't care if it's running on a PC or console, as long as I can play it, that's all that matters. And don't call me kid.

OHHHHHH but what about me? 2 computers of mine have 5.1 sound and Geforce 4's. my hdtv cant compete with computer gamming until they come out with keyboard and mouse combo for xbox and a tad bit higher tv resolution....I still would prefer my puter for gamming

They lose money on every console they sell. You knew that right? The money is in the games and lisencing.

I haven't seen a side-by-side comparison. I can tell you, that even if it looks good on XBox, any desktop card from Ti4600 on up WILL look better. If you don't want to get into 3D graphics technology with me, fine, don't, but you'll just have to take my work that the NV2A < NV20 < NV25 < R300 < R350 etc. Having unified memory isn't gonna give it THAT big of a gain.
