I haven't played the 2016 Doom yet (still need to upgrade my PC), but holy crap this has me psyched...

Awesome to see the Arachnotron and Arch-vile. The music is crazy too.

having just finished Doom 2016, i am super excited. i thought it was a superb FPS - once I turned my gamma up and I could actually see the levels.
great action, great weapons, fun monsters (sometimes more a PITA...but the challenge level was right on Ultra Violence), enjoyable level design, and surprisingly interesting lore for a game that's not really concerned much about storytelling.

Doom is highly optimized are you certain you need to upgrade to play it?

It probably would have ran well, but I had an HD6950 that I sold on eBay as I never gamed, so I figured I should get some money for it while I could. I had a spare 8800GT I put in there. The rest of the system is fine - i5-2500k, 8GB RAM - but if I get back into PC gaming I'm going all-out with a brand new build.

yeah, I have also a strong suspicion that DOOM 2016 is one of few games that checks how much videoram is present and uses it all for optimizing gaming performance.
When i enable the overlay function of the radeon settings driver/program (CTRL+SHIFT + O in game), it mentions that all the VRAM i have is in use.
I have not seen a game use all VRAM with any game i played so far with the new overlay feature. I admit, it is not that much games i have played.

I use a Gigabyte Windforce 1060 3GB card for it and it plays great. Of course I run a 4690K.....

If you can get a used 1060 for cheap it will give you a good gaming experience.

Not sure what prices are like with mining and all, but if the 1060 and 480/580 are in the same range go for the AMD card. Doom was the deciding factor when I chose the RX 480 over the 1060. Even a 4/570 will do very well. Make sure to change it from OpenGL to Vulkan once you do play it. That may be the default these days anyway though.

Looking forward to see what comes out tomorrow.

prices have dropped since the mining craze peaked a while ago.

I use OpenGL as I get higher frame rates with the 1060.

Ok, funny story .. i have not played doom.
See, i dont have room on my storage and im too lazy to buy more.

Funny because i play quake a solid 2h a day. And i played the hecks out of doom2 and the various .wads..

So.

"Is Doom 2016 as good as Doom2"?

Because to me doom2 was the best. Quake2 was great as well but imho the doom2 gameplay was unbeatable.

The death match/pvp sucks from what I hear but it’s got a killer campaign.

for single player campaign Doom 2016 is great fun. I have never bothered with MP.

For me though, Doom 3 was the best because I prefer the survival-horror genre.

Just my opinion.

I like the more interactive environment. Not just postcards anymore and the demons getting a face lift. Do I like the neon light demons and the linear shooter story? Eh - trade off for good Carnage.

I won't make the same mistake twice. I'll wait for user reviews this time.

If there's a single horde mode room in that one I'll pass. A. Single. One.
