I haven't read this entire thread, but can anyone tell me if a reverse boycott has been pushed yet? Where is the list of advertisers that pulled their ads as soon as the pressure began?
I'm a minority myself and I think this kind of thing has no place in our society.
shouldn't your last sentence be:
because i'm a minotiry myself, I think this kind of thing has no place in our society.
Umm...no.
I think the railroading of Imus for a stupid statement that was meant to entertain his audience should not get him fired. That is anti-American.
actually, if you analyze your sentence, why did you even feel the need to put in minority?
cause the assumption here is usually you're an american. and i think 99% of the people here are american.
so, why put minority? would it matter if you were white? would that mean your belief that this kind of thing has no place in our society doesn't count as much?
I really don't want to get into a debate here, but no it shouldn't matter. There are those here that might make a false assumption however, so any extra info can't hurt.
false assumption about? false assumption that?
that you're a minority? well, that wouldn't be false. so it must be false assumption that you're a white.
basically, you're saying that if you were white, and you were to say "this kind of thing has no place in our society", people would brush it off, saying that it doesn't mean much. but if you're a minority it means a whole lot more?
my whole problem here is the double standard that goes on. apparently imus is white. basically, that means any statement he says against any ethnicity is wrong (unless he's a jew. but his nose isn't that big). cause apparently white people are racist when they make statements.
but if he were a minority (which is, apparently, any ethnicity that is non-white, cause i think white is still the majority in this country. but in some places, like california, hispanics are huge. i would say they're not really a minority. but apparently one still can't crack jokes at their expensive), he could make jokes about his own minority. and it'd be ok.
look at borat and jews. black people and all the things they call other blacks.
why does it matter if i were oriental and i called someone an oriental? the only reason it should matter would be if i didn't know it were a derogatory term, and just used it innocently. just as it should be ok if a old white lady called some chinese person an oriental, not meaning anything by it. but in our society it's not that. it's basically you can make fun of yourself, your own race, even if you are nothing like the rest of them (whitewashed, or however you want to put it), and white people.
and why is it ok to make fun of white people? i can't even think of derogatory terms for white people any more that aren't allowed? white trash? redneck? isn't that common parlance nowadays?
in nashville there's even a "white trash cafe". the people working there sure don't mind the term "white trash".
