Carl's Jr bought out Hardee's years ago, so pretty much anywhere outside of the southeastern US, Carl's Jr = Hardee's.

IIRC, they won several burger awards a few years ago for their 6 dollar burgers. I assume they carry the Hardee's breakfast as well? you owe yourself a tasty sausage biscuit. (The six dollar burger is a Hardee's creation before they were bought out. Carl's went after them for this, and for the Hardee's breakfast, iirc.)

I never went to Carl's for breakfast but when someone bought me a biscuit sandwich, I was super surprised about how good the biscuits were for a large fast food joint.

No, they have some different menus items, can't get several Hardee's-style breakfast items here in CA. When I was last in Tennessee, Hardee's had a breakfast buffet, which I've never seen at Carl's.

Some but not all Carl's locations also have a green burrito menu, which was the result of some co-branding deal with a chain called The Green Burrito.

if you guys have the opportunity to visit orange county there's this place called Haven Gastropub that has a great burger.

The Haven Burger is a hand-formed 9-ounce patty -- a custom grind of chuck (65 percent), short rib (15 percent) and pork fat (20 percent)

I always thought In & Out was over rated. Then everybody at the forum talked about 5 Guys being the end to the earth. Then when 5 Guys finally made it to Vegas, guess what, I think its over rated also. The comment that Gordon Ramsey loves In & Out seems comical since his Burgr shop in Planet Hollywood is about on par with the quality as In & Out and at $21 for the cheapest combo. I prefer the Micky D's Angus burger combo or Carls JR $6 combo. There is always mom and pop diners and tavern and bar burgers that surpass them all if you can find them.

They were bought in 1997.

So we're in agreement, In n Out most overrated, Five Guys second most overrated.

I haven't had Ramsey's. A bit surprised to hear it's not better, but I can believe it.

Billy's Roadhouse Bar and Grill (I do NOT know if the location I patroned was affiliated with any other Billy's Roadhouse franchise), but the location is now closed. Crave-worthy specialty burgers, plus a few classic ones. They were between $7.50 ~ $9.50 with a load of fries. Also served a killer club sandwich that two grown men could share.

Keith:

The Western burger is greatly overrated. I used to think it's good, now I really dislike it.

The burger to get is the six dollar burger (that's the name not the price). My favorties are the chili cheese or the hawaaiian (teriyaki and pinapple), you might have to ask for them.

You mentioned waffle fries, that's fine; shakes are good.

They have 'grilled cheese burgers' out but I don't recommend a lot.

Carl's has cut costs over the years. Used to be so much better.

Does anyone else remember Wendy's having a quadruple-decker-bypass burger for a while there? In my college days I remember ordering one, getting half way through it and thinking "I've made a huge mistake" because it was beyond my maximal beef intake limit. But I haven't seen it on the menu since. It was fucking ridiculous to eat too, a totally unstable beef patty tower that dripped grease all over you. I'm guess it was abandoned when its impracticality became apparent.

Last time I was in Vegas, went to Holsteins. One of the best burgers I've had in Vegas.

Cool, I'll look for that on the menu when I go there this weekend.

Keith, we're waiting...

Sunday man! I can't eat that stuff during the week, even though it's right outside my office; makes me want to take a nap. :D

Yep Holsteins is good stuff. We had a local dinner named Tiffanies that had excellent burgers. Unfortunately the economy and the neighborhood brought it to its knees and it closed up shop.

Yep we are in agreement. I am no burger connoisseur by any means, but In & Out and 5 Guys are not really doing it any better than the others. I like Fatburger but don't know if I would call them a major chain with their limited amount of locations nation wide.
