Man what an awesome pet.

Was so awesome, he literally killed himself trying to save a wussy ass cat.

This story has made me more sad than most of the human related death stories.

goes to prove dogs are smarter...
Dogs rule!

Not in this case. If the dog were smart he would have left the cat in there.

This is a dog, not Sonny from I, Robot. A dog can't deduce which is the calculate risk. The dog got its owner out first, then heard another living being in trouble and went to try to help.

Poor doggie :(

So, because it is a dog, we assume it ran back inside to save the cat. Yeah, whatever.

Animals run back into burning buildings from time to time for no reason. For all we know the dog ran back in for a chew toy, the womans slippers, etc, etc. The dog helped save the woman and that is all we know.

How is this different from dogs? Dogs still knock crap over, tear sh!t up, and tear up the yard. Most dogs just can't/won't get on the top of counters and shelves, so they have less opportunity to knock small stuff over.
You can train a dog to stop. When my friend yells at his cat, he just looks at him and continues doing what he was doing before. When he takes him off a counter he shouldn't be on, he just jumps right back up.

Your friend doesn't know how to train a cat.

My cat does not jump on countertops, tables, shelves, the TVs or anyplace we don't want him.

Amputation?

No, just good training. Cats ARE trainable.
