How is this different from dogs? Dogs still knock crap over, tear sh!t up, and tear up the yard. Most dogs just can't/won't get on the top of counters and shelves, so they have less opportunity to knock small stuff over.
You can train a dog to stop. When my friend yells at his cat, he just looks at him and continues doing what he was doing before. When he takes him off a counter he shouldn't be on, he just jumps right back up.

Your friend doesn't know how to train a cat.

My cat does not jump on countertops, tables, shelves, the TVs or anyplace we don't want him.

You're all idiots.

Disabled person in need of trained dog + an open flame = an accident waiting to happen.

The idiot should've used lightbulbs, it's just a shame the dog had to die and not the owner.

Oh come on. Candles aren't really all that dangerous. The biggest problem was placing it near highly flammable materials.

Yes because it's not dangerous to leave an open flame on a flammable surface with small animals in the house when you cannot even get out of said house in an emergency without the aid of a dog.

Said disabled person should've been a Darwin award.

Ummm... read my post again. I clearly said the problem was placing it near flammable materials. A candle properly placed poses vitually no threat, even for a disabled individual.

It was obviously not properly placed, and if you had read the article you would see the cat knocked it over.

Small, furry animals + open flames = accident waiting to happen if you cannot even stand up in an emergency.

Like I said, should have been a Darwin award.

for the dog, your owner was a pea-brained idiot.

Not in this case. If the dog were smart he would have left the cat in there.

It must suck to know that a dog has better morals then you do.

Yes, I know all that, but that wasn't even what I was commenting on. I was commenting on your statement (which you've made a couple of times) that a disabled person shouldn't use a candle. I simply argued that candles are relatively safe and I don't see a problem with a disabled personing using them. They just need to be placed properly.

Good dog, but the story sounds fishy. All we have to go by is the testimony of an apparant mental incompetent. My guess is the dog didn't go back to save the cat, maybe to kill it for starting a fire (assuming that is wasn't the lady that started it...).

Cats have been bred far less longer than dogs (like 1/3 as long). You gotta expect dogs will socialize better with humans amd are more customized than cats.

I never said that disabled people shouldn't use candles.

I said that a.) being disabled and leaving an open flame is an accident waiting to happen and that b.) being a disabled owner of small animals and leaving an open flame is an accident waiting to happen.

First of all there are many devices she could've used that hold candles in a non-open flame, if she just must have candles for whatever reason.

Second of all she's an utter moron for knowingly leaving one out with small animals in the house when she knows full well she couldn't get up without the dog fetching her own leg.

Disabled moron in the OP should "DIAF", poor doggy didn't deserve it.

LOL... whatever. That's exactly what you are saying. Earlier you said:

No disabled person in their right mind would use candles in the knowledge their movement would rely on the intervention of a dog in an emergency, that's just an accident waiting to happen.

Which translates to: "Only a crazy disabled person would use a candle". Which makes rather clear your opinion that and disbaled person shouldn't use a candle... which is what I disagreed with.

I almost agree with the statement, if you add in the cat.

Only a crazy disabled person would use a candle if they own a cat.

You can still have the ambience of candlelight dinner in complete safety.

It's amazing how many people are tricked by them. When they get knocked over and roll off a table people JUMP!
