fanaticism for depression, all around loseristic habits, trying to be mysteriously detached etc work with me people, this thread is supposed to make us smile and remember a finer time. One might say the Golden Age, when everybody wanted to "Jump", when you fell in love with Jesse's Girl, when you were still the king of wishful thinking, come on! Keep stayin alive!

Tears of Heaven is about emotions but do we call Clapton Emo, Hell NO! Emo is actually a melding of goth and wussy into one comprehensive bag o'crap.

which is exactly my point. Emo isn't music. It is a bunch of teenagers who find an identity through music which is then obessed upon to a point of absurdity. Exactly like 'Goth', 'Metalheads', 'Thugs', etc... emo as a social group are just another sort of teenage expression and a passing fad, like goth.

anyways, I'm going to listen to The Cure now. Oh wait, The Get Up Kids (quintessential 'emo' band, or genre making phenoms?) covered one of their songs. Guess that makes me emo. :brokenheart:

yay, let's write off entire genres of music based on a few performers.

this whole argument is stupid. every genre and time period has its good points and bad.

Goth done right = Clan of Xymox, Sisters of Mercy, etc. No emo anywhere in sight there.

I find it funny how people that hate metallica always say that St Anger stinks but then secretly go and listen to THE BLACK ALBUM. You either hate Metallica or you hate the album, get with it nubs.

Emo, Chav, Townie.... just more stereotyped groups of people. If you like 1 rap song yet thousands of Rock/Metal/Punk does that make you any different? People that generalise just make me sick. I like what I like, you like what you like. I may not like Emo much but i'm not gonna turn off the iRadio just because something emo comes on.

Metallica started sucking way before St. Anger was released.

Amen to that!! More like the Black album, they disowned their fans for some radio play on your local Top 40 station...

If you people had any idea what you were talking about I could understand this. "Emo" has been around a lot longer than what you've seen commercialized by MTV and your lastest shopping mall fads.

would, say, old Jimmy Eat World be considered emo? I'd say no. Then again they call themselves rock musicians but have created songs about 'emo'tions, hmm?!

Old Jimmy Eat World is still Emo. "I'm not alone because the T.V.s on yeah/ I'm not crazy because I take the right pill (everyday)". I laugh at all the scene kids with their girl pants and their hair combed over one eye, posting on deviant art their little poorly photoshoped pictures and thinking they're so damn cool and original. "Waaaah Daddy got me the blue mustang when I wanted the red one! Waaaaaaaaah!"

I hate most of the genre, but there's still a few decent bands such as Jimmy Eat World.
