You're an idiot. It's arborio rice - let's see you make rissotto out of regular white rice.

It can be done as you don't need fancy rice to make it. Hell, I made it once before and until this thread I had never even heard of Arborio rice. When I made it I used a short grain white rice, it was like 99 cents a bag.

Don't mind Gayner... he's an elitist wannabe.

A high-starch, low-amylose round medium- or short- grain rice is usually used to make risotto. Such rices have the ability to absorb liquids and to release starch and so they are stickier than the long grain varieties.

The principal varieties used in Italy are Arborio, Baldo, Carnaroli, Padano, Roma, and Vialone Nano. Carnaroli and Vialone Nano are considered to be the best (and most expensive) varieties, with different users preferring one over the other.

I mean... if Italy can make risotto without using Arborio rice... i'm pretty sure THEY are doing it right.

So.. does the Tea Party not believe in beans now?
:hmm:

I don't identify with the Tea Party as much as I do Libertarian ideals. People can prepare any dish however they wish.

Apparently, some people prefer chili con carne with beans. Some people like pineapple on their pizza. I've enjoyed chili con carne both ways and couldn't say which I prefer. I usually cannot tolerate beans in most food products, and I've sometimes found beans to make the chili con carne less enjoyable. This is always variable depending on the chili con carne and the particular beans used.

I have no opinion on this issue.

I tried to avoid this...

This thread is now about chili con carne.
