Congrats on the card. But what about PhysX and 3d Vision?Don't you want those things ?

PhysX what's that? Still haven't seen a game that I liked that used it. Even in the games that use physx it's like a waving flag or something that drops fps in half. Not worth it.

3d vision isn't even properly supported in skyrim so I gave up on it. It was giving me headaches too.

Don't miss either one frankly.

My 7950 is a much better card than either of the 670's I've owned.

PhysX yes, 3d vision no.

In my chop box that won't happen, only have room for one card.

I had to make a choice, and based on price/perf and overclocking /w a chance at some return on my investment the 7950 seemed like the best option for me.

Nvidia's bundle didn't seem as quick and easy to get rid of (which is from my own ignorance), they can't bitcoin (though this seems to be getting harder and harder even for AMD), and their $300 price bracket is the 660Ti.

When I look at Nvidia I see a mid-range card that is around it's peak potential, when I look at AMDs card I see a card that is not living up to it's potential - which opens up the possibility of a few more tweaks down the road including the memory rewrite.

Overall the choice for me personally came down to a lot of factors, it's a choice I wasn't intending to follow through with for awhile, however my plans were accelerated yesterday by factors outside my own control. I never viewed the 7950 as an appropriated upgrade over my cheap 470(s); but I found it more reasonable as an overclocker than the 660 Ti or 670 for my needs.

But you bring up a valid point, I will miss PhysX a lot. Perhaps I should consider a different build style where I could accommodate a 650 Ti or older used 40nm card as a dedicated PhysX gpu, in fact I think I might have to I don't want to give that up.

My last MSI TF3 did 1225 on 1.17v. Correct me if I am wrong Spinejam.

EDIT: Just saw his screenshot, I think that was the TF3 he sold me.

Balla, I can honestly say I don't miss Physx when I switched from a GTX 680/670 to an HD 7970. The recent games aren't enough to justify it as a relevant tech to spend more on a purchase. Maybe that will change in the future, maybe not. It seems that Physx is slowly fading away and I wonder if its because the developers don't want to implement physx due to possible loss of sales from people that cannot run it??

Use one of those mythical 470s for PhysX? :p I might pick up a 460 for it, I just don't really care for it too much is all.

I think he is using an ITX build that he cannot add another card to his setup.

Yeah it was my original plan to do this around the release of Haswell, I was hoping to see more price drops possibly from a refresh but like I said things happened :(

I guess I need to figure something else out :whiste:

Oh well life happens, plans change!

Witcher 3 unless a total dud is more than enough reason for me to keep PhysX around >.<

If your case can hold a second GPU which can do hardware accelerated physX I believe there is a hack for GPU phySx.Not sure of which Nvidia drivers allows it though.

I have a Sapphire 7950 OC (one of the very first ones sold) and it is fully voltage unlocked. This one looks nearly identical to it, but the part number is different.

I love my card though, has done everything I wanted it too. Bit jealous they are so cheap now though :p

Hey guys, quick question - What's the best place to go for the latest beta releases?

I went here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx

However as far as I can tell the latest it has is 13.2, while the latest I've seen posted is 13.7

Also noob question, do I install Catalyst Software Suite 13.1, then toss drivers on top of that, or exactly how does that work? Also how do CAPs work, do I need them or how do I know when I do and don't, eh?

Trying to avoid user errors, it's not as straightforward as Geforce.

So I saw this: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst132BetaDriver.aspx

Which lead me to 13.7 - What about Catalyst, is that not the same thing as drivers?

The suite will have everything in it, drivers, CCC etc. There will be an option to choose what to install if you use a custom install.

So I just download 13.2 Beta 7 and that will contain CCC, and whatever else I need?

CAPS are for dual card users?

With Nvidia I'd just install over the old drivers, is that true with AMD as well. So say I get 13.2 Beta 7 and a few weeks later 13.3 comes out, do I just install right over the top of everything else or do you guys use Driver Sweeper anymore?

Sorry for the stupid questions, trying to avoid PEBKAC from ignorance.

Some time ago I've (well, AMD actually) borked my system installing new drivers over old ones. Drivers didn't properly install and wouldn't properly uninstall after that. I had to boot safe mode, delete stuff manually, yada yada. The usual bs.

I'm not sure if they fixed it yet, but I'm not about to make the same mistake again. When new drivers arrive I uninstall the old ones using the "express uninstall ALL AMD software" option, reboot, install the new ones, reboot. That works flawlessly, so I recommend it.

Is this for real? AMD wrecked "your" system because the drivers didn't install right? Wow, just wow.

Let's see. I'll walk you through the process, you point me where it begins to be my fault, shall we?

They make the installer. The installer supports overwriting older drivers. I use the installer the way it's meant to be used. The installer gives me an error at the end, doesn't actually install the new version. Old drivers are still there. Running the installer again, it actually opens the uninstaller. Alright, let's uninstall it first then. Uninstaller gives me a warning at the end, doesn't actually uninstall everything. From this point on I can't install the new drivers nor completely uninstall the old ones.

So, tell me please: where in the sequence of events above does it stop to be AMD's fault for providing me a screwed up installer and it starts to be mine for running their screwed up installer?

I still go through the process of removing drivers, running Driver Sweeper etc. Its the only way to make sure you remove .dll files. Also, just because new drivers come out doesn't mean they need to be used. I just went from 12.3 drivers to 13.1 after getting my SSD drive, never had issues with the older drivers. I am a if it aint broke don't fix it type of guy for video card drivers.

Its been a LONG time, but I have also had issues like this.

I used to uninstall and run Driver Sweeper but then AMD started recommending just installing over the old drivers and I haven't had issues with that route since.

Yeah, I did mention it was a problem I had some time ago and that they might have had fixed it by now.

Shows how out of the loop I am on drivers, but its really great to see, makes life easier.
