Maybe not the best choice in subs but it's priced fairly, can taste OK as long as the sandwich maker isn't an idiot and a good alternative to yet another greasy burger and fry meal..

When fewer choices existed subway was better than a burger. When MUCH better sandwich shops like blimpies and the like came into existence subway lost its place in my palate.

That may be true, IF you have other choices available.

I live in a city of 100,000+ people, and our choices (for sandwich shops) are Subway and Quiznos. I have three Subway shops open with 3 miles of where I live and work, but Quiznos is halfway across town (and there's only that one shop).

To me, Subway is only as mediocre as your imagination in what you want put on a sandwich is.

I use to love subway. Now I'm noticing the meat quality is not all that great. I use to be able to eat the sandwiches without sauce. Now with the way the meat quality is I will ask them to throw some sauce on it.

So I don't eat there much anymore. And this is a guy that ate their regularly.

Unfamiliar city - you know what you're getting. Locally, there's no way in hell I go to Subway. Too many better AND cheaper options. You can call it "cheap", but Subway is overpriced for their quality and what you get.

Does anyone else miss the old way subway used to cut their sandwiches? Gouging the trench out vs cutting it in half? Used to be able to get it the old way, but now the bread is so flat they can't really do it anymore.

They make sandwiches. There's bread and various normal sandwich ingredients. I don't know how people end up with strong opinions about things like this.

overpriced compared to what? isn't all fast food bought from a restaurant fast or normal dine in, overpriced? You're paying for convenience.

Overpriced compared to local or grocery store subs, that are bigger and meatier for the same, or less, money.

Because the bread is dry and nasty and they use 1 ounce of meat per 6" of sub?

Get a sub that consists of the meat "Chicken" and you should be good.

The wife gets the ham and turkey a lot and I just laugh at the slice of meat they put on there.

my opinion on Subway was inconsistent until I got the bright idea of wanting no lettuce on my subs made there.

no lettuce made their subs immediately have more taste to them.

Ive had different experiences at different Subways since they are all franchised. Some are much better than others.

Spinach rocks. But in my experience only about 50% of Subway's have the spinach option.

Subway is my favourite fast food place by far, I rarely eat there though, rarely eat any fast food actually.

Subway is actually cheaper than what you'd pay to buy all of the ingredients from a supermarket. The only way you'd even come close is if you buy in bulk and eat subs everyday for several weeks so the ingredients don't spoil.

i'm from India and Subway is the only good/decent sandwich place here, so theres kinda no option here for us. But i simply love the personalisation options available. As for the meat, i make sure he puts enough so that theres a chunk in every bite.

You missed the point though - there are other sub shops that DO buy in bulk, sell subs cheaper than Subway, make a profit, AND use better quality ingredients & more meat/cheese in the subs.

Despite that, if you were making subs for a family of 4, I think you could have more meat on your subs than you would get from a subway sub, better quality meat, and could do it cheaper. "Bulk" not required, unless you consider a single head of lettuce to be "bulk."

Subway produces a food-like product not fit for human consumption. They are to sandwiches as Taco Bell is to tacos.

mmm... Taco Bell...

I love the mythical local sub shop where you can get 1lb of meat on a footlong for tree-fiddy, everyone always says their local place is better but no one ever gives specifics.

I actually really like Subway's bread, better than Jersey Mike's, Blimpe or Quiznos.

My problem usually stems from the employees not caring how they assemble the sandwiches. They typically rush through it not caring where things go or how the toppings are distributed.

Agreed. If I could buy their bread and put my own stuff on it, I'd be happy. :)
