I go to a small gym and most people know/talk to me. When I am lifting, most times people are engaging in conversation with me; asking me about working out, about the weights I am using and lifts I am doing.
People will see me bench and then I get asked a lot -> how do I increase my bench? my response is to squat and dead lift more.... to which I get something like: I used to squat till I hurt my back, or I don't want to get as big as you. Well, no worries, if you don't squat and dead lift, your chances are pretty slim that you would.
to me, that is more insulting them me razzing them about gloves or the pads. I have spent nearly two decades lifting to get to where I am... though the last 5 yrs haven't been as good to me as I would have liked
I am not degrading when I give "pointers" and generally I won't give unsolicited advise - > unless I see something very dangerous; like the 135 lb guy coming in off the street and throwing 3 plates on the bench (with his gloves on).
here is what I saw last sunday when I was doing deadlifts. so, would some friendly advise offered to this gentleman be something that would be frowned upon, or would the forum members think it would be justified? ... you can see me in the yellow tank filming :0
I was setup doing deads. You can see my bar in the vid (got up to 485 that day)... anyways, this guy comes in, loads up the smith machine all smug as I am going through my sets. Like he is my lifting peer or something. He then proceeds to do what you see in the vid, and no, you aren't missing anything. 5 sets of, um, incline bumps????
