I have one. I pretty much always have it open in a tab somewhere, but I don't really care much about what goes on, facebook is great for pictures and having conversations with friends etc, it's especially good for organizing parties and events. I'm not all that bothered by the privacy issues, mostly because I don't put anything on there I wouldn't want random people to see and I have it pretty well locked down as far as strangers and apps goes.

All of this.

Those who disagree just don't 'get it'. (Kinda like you 1950s/60s parents not understanding this 'rock and roll')

I'd be curious to see the mathematics behind Facebook relationships. Suppose that person P has a set of friends and that some subset of those friends, P_1 through P_x are all friends with person A. How often is person P friends with person A?

As for the OP, Facebook isn't useless, but the idea does scare me a bit.

I do not have one, but I might have to get a sign on one day because so many sites are using Facebook sign-on's for their comments sections, like Detroit News. If you want to make comments after articles online you need a facebook sign-on.

Don't have either a Twitter or Facebook account. I like it that way too.

It'd be fun for them to release a sanitized version of their databases for fun querying ^_^

No facespace for me.

I've also never had an AIM, MSN, whatever type of IM account.

Fake, and I had to use tor to register from a 3rd world country so it didn't ask for a phone number verification.

Deleted my original account that I had before it exploded in popularity. Now just a fake account.

Could be true. But I (and others) get along fine w/o it and I can stay in touch with people via the 100's of other ways to contact and/or find someone.

I might have entertained the idea of getting an account until my grandmothers and other family members started asking me if I was on it. At that point I knew I had no desire to be on it, but then I never had a Myspace account either. I've not even really a clue wtf use a twitter account is for except for even more direct attention whoring, because ultimately THAT is what it is. It's texting on a global scale of "Hey look at me".

Ultimately, while it has it's uses, it's been turned into a "Hey look at me attention whore" website making money off your information. And now with the whole employer fiasco, it's just one more reason to stay away from it. The majority will eventually move on to something else anyway.

Again, it's the 'get it' thing just like the 1950s rock-and-roll. I don't think you 'get it' even when it comes down to my argument.

Whatever though. I'm not worried about employers.

I should take it back. I remember making a fake Facebook account to get those buy one get one free Chipotle burritos. They made you get a Facebook account to get the coupon

The responses in this thread lead me to believe the average age of the members on this forum is in the 30s.

along with my tumblr, my twitter, no instagram or pinstrist yet

If you screen name didn't give it away, this basically identifies you as asian.

How many of you luddites have neither a FaceBook account nor a TV?!?

MotionMan

I have a facebook, but no TV of my own. The place I'm renting came with one, but it is rarely used. When I move out I doubt I'll be buying a TV ever.

I do have a projector for movies though.

I don't have one.

No real desire for one, my interaction with my friends is perfectly fine where it's at now.

"facebook is to socializing what reality tv is to reality"

Nope, every single person in the world has one.

I beg to differ.
There are 3, and only 3, ATOTers without Facebook pages.
The rest just don't want to admit it.

Yes, I have one also, even at my advanced age.

No facebook, no TV, and no telephone. I do inexplicably have a twitter account, but I'm not sure why. I think Woot has something to do with it, but I can't remember exactly why I set it up.

Well, of course not!
You really have no plans to ever work, do you?
Based on your previous posts, you would never work anywhere unless you were allowed to play Video Games and surf the 'net all day.
Not many jobs like that out there.

I wonder what the "cut off" age is for this question. I would venture to say that many (unless you are a social butterfly or something), that if you are over 40, you don't really "get it" on why people have a FB page or a twitter account. I just have no need. My wife has one, but I mean come on, you are already in touch with anyone you want to be in touch with. Why else do I need any of this other nonsense. Just leave me alone already. I'd say it goes up to maybe mid 40's if you are a woman. But if you are a man and over 40 and have a FB page (that you frequently update your status) then you are in the minority. And I'm not talking about a company, or a family guy who wants to keep tabs on his kids or something. Like twitter - I'm talking about an average guy who thinks he's that important that people regularly want to hear what the crap he is saying. I just don't get it. Matter of fact, I don't even get it with celebs....Maybe I just don't give a big enough crap to look into how it works. I don't know...

Edit: And while I'm sounding like my dad I suppose - are you that self important that you think we give a crap on what you are doing? ie, went to the gym, had another good workout....or perhaps jenny did another stinky in her diaper.....or all these celebs regularly tweeting their opinions on anything and everything....

Don't get me started. Good topic.

I've never had a Facebook account. I had a MySpace account because the woman I was dating at the time wanted me to set one up, but I literally never updated it after creating it. No Twitter or any other such social media accounts. I don't get the appeal. Virtually everyone I know has a Facebook account with the exception of my roommate who shares my disdain for it.
