WTF? Yes a car can handle a laptop...christ, as long as you have a power inverter, now why you are so concerned with playing in the car becuase of road trips is beyond me...why not get a PSP or something, would be a lot cheaper...geeze

yeah, and running a laptop like that on the road might make you have to refuel every 5 exits

Here are the stats:

1.73 Ghz
1.25 gigs of DDR2 533
DVD writer
ATI Radeon X700

It was a Gateway and I think it was worth it. I can game and work on the go and the screen is on of those new pretty pretty ones :)

Yes but can you play the latest games and the ram hogging games like simcity 4, BF2 I think it is, Quake 4, doom 3, etc without any slowdowns? What resolution can you play all these games at on your laptop though?

Its a widescreen so its like 1440 x 900.

I've had no problems with BF2 all the way up with 2x antialiasing.

The only thing that slows me down is FEAR. But I can still play it with a lot of the options up to high and some at medium.

The X700 is a bit more powerful then the 9800 Pro.

Either way, both are e-penises. Except the Ferrari is also a fairly good laptop. Though the hummer is rated for a drop of "up to 30 inches", so rugged... so very rugged.

I've been thinking about doing something like this http://www.rjtech.com/ms1029.htm and then just buying all the guts from newegg for alot cheaper then that place sells them. You can build a pretty nice laptop with an x700 128meg card for around $1200. It gets pretty good reviews from what I have read sofar.

Radeon Xpress 200 graphics? Doesn't exactly exude performance like their cars do.

How the hell do you plan on gaming in a car without a mousing surface? You think a touchpad will be useful for gaming???!! :D

Sure. The site even has a How too in PDF form on it. Looks pretty easy to me.

yea pretty sad. considering the name it should be liquid cooled overclocking madness or something crazy. but its not all that feasible with a laptop. then again with ferrari type price tags i'm sure they could come up with something exotic. that or its nice to match with your car..if you own a ferrari. otherwise its just kinda sad really. laptop for posers.

When I went to college in 2000 I bought a ThinkPad with an 850 MHz P-III, 256 MB RAM, 32GB 5400 RPM HDD (laptop drives then were typically 4200 RPM), and a 16 MB ATI Mobility 128 (at the time the fastest laptop graphics card available) driving a 1600x1200 screen.

It's still a useful machine, I use it a good deal when I'm on the road. Definitely don't regret it. I wanted something that would last me through college, and it did that admirably.

I wouldn't do it for a laptop that I expected to get rid of soon though.

Hell yes it was worth it. Dell XPS purchased April 2004, loaded.

I used it every damn day for hours on end while on a ship from January through the end of October without any problems. 15.4" WUXGA (1900x1200) display. Love that screen. For being a nearly two year old notebook, it still does extremely well. P4 3.4G (NORTHWOOD!), 2GB PC3200 DDR, 60GB 7200 HDD, ATi M9800 256MB. Both included and high capacity batteries still run well.

As far as load on a vehicle system. Using a true sine wave power inverter, the draw at 13.9 volts was over 15 amps when SETI was running to stress things out. I can only imagine what the prescott users are doing!
