I don't like abnormally large and heavy laptops. My business partner and I paid about $2500 each for ours, fully loaded. You should keep your eyes open for deals (for example, Dell had 30% off at one point IIRC).

The 'latest and greatest' gaming laptops are an absolute joke. Feel the amount of heat coming out of the back of your computer... and then imagine all that heat coming out of a 12lb (ya.. a fvcking 12 heavy-ass pounds) box and burning your penis.
The latest Alienware laptop ad made me spit my soda all over my keyboard.. It's a 3.2ghz DESKTOP processor.. Those put out like 100W+ of heat!! So.. how much battery life are you gonna get with that?
Seriously.. don't buy a 'gaming' laptop. Anything heavier than 6.5lbs and thicker than 1.5" should not even be considered a laptop. Also, usually anything bigger than those dimensions has sh!tty build quality, loud fans, is heavy as hell..
You can buy a decently-fast laptop, with good battery life (using Centrino or AMD), that is thin (like 1.3" thick), light (5 lbs), and still has a half-way decent graphics card..
But, these big fat bricks that try to pass for a laptop today are jokes. How the fvck are you gonna 'game' on a laptop when you only get 1hour of battery life?
Big laptops are my peeve.. Five years ago, I swear.. the average size of a new laptop was smaller than the average size of today's laptops..

If you do was it worth it ? I know mainly you spend this much on a laptop if you want to game on it or do a lot of graphics work on it I believe! I know any laptop at this price is going to be very heavy to because of all the stuff it will have, huge hard drive, etc.

believe it or not, the biggest 100+ gig notebook hard drives are the same size as the run of the mill 4200 rpm 40 gb drive, and use the same amount of power.

Here are the stats:
1.73 Ghz
1.25 gigs of DDR2 533
DVD writer
ATI Radeon X700
It was a Gateway and I think it was worth it. I can game and work on the go and the screen is on of those new pretty pretty ones 🙂

The reason for this is so the laptop would be more future proof. Sure nothing is 100% future proof but if you get more than you need that way the laptop when used 2 to 3 years from now should still be quick enough and worth using with new games, etc.
